Chapter 5 - Trial by Silver

The morning sun barely touched the peaks of Qingyun Mountains as Lin Wei tightened his grip on the Heavenly Primordial Sword. His body still ached from Master Yun's training, but the feedback that had once threatened to crush him now felt… manageable. The system chimed faintly:

[Reality Feedback Stabilized – 38%]

[Sword Points: 150 – Threshold for Tier 2 Techniques Reached]

He allowed himself a small smile. I've come a long way… but this is only the beginning.

The wind shifted suddenly. From the mountain pass, a familiar figure appeared—the silver-robed cultivator. His aura radiated cold certainty, and the faint glow around his body made it clear: he had grown stronger since their last encounter.

"You've trained," the silver-robed cultivator said, voice carrying across the valley. "But experience does not equate to skill. Let's see if your blade can survive a real fight."

Lin Wei steadied himself. He had learned under Master Yun's guidance to focus intent, not brute force. He could not yet match the cultivator's raw power, but he could fight smart, and that was the key.

"Stay behind me," the girl from the village whispered from the tree line. Her midnight hair caught sunlight, eyes filled with concern. "Be careful…"

Lin Wei nodded silently. I will. I must survive—not just for me, but for everyone.

The silver-robed cultivator struck first. A wave of silver energy sliced across the valley, tearing boulders from the earth. Lin Wei activated Void Slash, the blade tearing through the air to intercept the attack. The wave of energy disintegrated midair, leaving a hollow echo.

[System Reward: Sword Points +30]

The cultivator frowned. "Interesting… controlling intent better than strength. But you are still mortal."

Lin Wei's vision narrowed. He took a deep breath and activated Karmic Cleaver. Invisible threads of fate wrapped around the cultivator's strikes, disrupting their timing. One misstep, one momentary lapse, and the cultivator stumbled slightly—a crack in his otherwise perfect composure.

[System Reward: Sword Points +50]

[Technique Progress: Karmic Cleaver Layer 2 Initiated]

Lin Wei staggered, his body screaming, but he forced his focus. The Primordial Sword pulsed, guiding him to the final technique: Law Null Blade.

He swung. The world seemed to pause. The cultivator's energy fields—the laws that shaped his attacks—were erased in an instant. His aura flickered as if the universe itself had momentarily rejected his existence. He blinked, shocked, as Lin Wei's sword cut clean through the empty space where defense should have been.

The feedback hit Lin Wei like a hammer. Pain radiated through his chest, limbs, and mind, but the system reminded him:

[Reality Feedback: 78% – Danger Threshold Approaching]

He gritted his teeth. I can endure. I must endure.

The cultivator recovered quickly, circling him with newfound respect. "You've grown… mortal, yet wield a weapon beyond comprehension. You may survive… this time."

The girl stepped closer, eyes wide. "You… you're amazing!" she whispered. There was awe, and something softer—a faint blush rising to her cheeks. Lin Wei felt it too: a strange warmth at the edge of his exhaustion, a tether of encouragement he hadn't known he needed.

The silver-robed cultivator raised a hand and vanished in a flash of silver light, leaving a single warning echo behind: "This is not over. Your journey has only begun. Train well, mortal… or perish."

Lin Wei collapsed to his knees. Pain and fatigue gripped him like iron chains, but beneath it all, exhilaration bubbled. He had survived. He had three techniques now. His understanding of the Primordial Sword had deepened.

The Dao Sword System spoke quietly:

"Threshold crossed. Techniques mastered: Void Slash (Layer 2), Karmic Cleaver (Layer 2), Law Null Blade (Layer 1). Sword Points accrued: 230. Future growth will be limited without rest and stabilization. Seek guidance and strengthen body, mind, and intent."

Lin Wei looked at the girl. "I… I need to train more. I… I won't let him win next time."

She smiled faintly, stepping closer. "Then I'll watch. And… maybe help, if you let me."

His chest fluttered, but he nodded silently. There were no words yet for the strange, growing bond between them—but he understood one truth: he was no longer alone.

Above them, the mountains whispered. The Primordial Sword pulsed softly, like a heartbeat entwined with his own. Lin Wei, weak mortal though he had been, had taken the first steps into a path that would eventually cut heaven, earth, and the very fabric of existence itself.
