Chapter 7 - Shadows Over Qingyun

The sun had barely pierced the morning mist over Qingyun Village when Lin Wei stepped onto the training grounds. His body was sore but resilient—Master Yun's guidance and his own determination had strengthened him since the last battle. The Heavenly Primordial Sword pulsed in his hands, now fully responsive to his intent.

"You've improved, Lin Wei," Master Yun said calmly, standing beside him. "But growth is only measured in adversity. Today, you face an exercise of precision, endurance, and strategy."

Before Lin Wei could ask what he meant, a chilling laugh echoed from the valley. From the treeline, three cultivators emerged, clad in dark robes, their auras flickering with low-level but dangerous energy. They were minor rivals—followers of the silver-robed cultivator, sent to test the "mortal who dared wield the Primordial Sword."

Lin Wei's heart thudded, but he steadied himself. The Dao Sword System whispered: "Threat detected. Optimal strategy: combine techniques sequentially. Endurance will be challenged."

He inhaled, raising the sword. "I… I'm ready."

The first cultivator charged, swinging a blade of compressed energy. Lin Wei reacted instinctively, executing Void Slash. The construct of space tore apart before him, halting the attack midair.

The second cultivator attempted a flanking maneuver. Lin Wei's mind raced. He activated Karmic Cleaver, manipulating the threads of causality. The second attacker stumbled as his timing faltered. Lin Wei moved past him, striking at the third cultivator.

Pain lanced through his arms, chest, and legs—feedback from the sword grew stronger with each cut. Yet Lin Wei forced himself to focus, feeling the blade's pulse synchronize with his will.

Then, he saw her—the girl. She had followed him again, standing quietly behind a tree, her gaze fixed on him. This time, her expression was not fear or awe, but determination.

"Lin Wei," she whispered, stepping forward. "You can't do this alone. Let me help."

Lin Wei froze. She had never acted before. "Y-you… you can fight?" he asked.

A faint glow surrounded her hands, subtle but undeniable. She has cultivation… Lin Wei realized. Her eyes met his, conveying trust and encouragement. I can do this with her support.

He nodded and returned to his duel. The three cultivators now coordinated, attempting to surround him. Lin Wei's body shook under the feedback, but he combined techniques seamlessly. Void Slash disrupted frontal attacks, Karmic Cleaver twisted timing, and Law Null Blade erased defenses.

One of the minor rivals, frustrated, unleashed a concentrated wave of energy meant to overwhelm him. Lin Wei gritted his teeth. He adjusted his intent, letting the Primordial Sword guide him, and executed a rapid Destiny Edge strike. The cultivator froze mid-attack, caught in a momentary alteration of fate, and collapsed in shock.

The girl ran forward, subtly stabilizing him with her own energy threads, minimizing the sword's feedback. Her presence gave him strength he didn't realize he needed. Together, they faced the remaining cultivators, who finally retreated, clearly impressed—and cautious.

Master Yun stepped forward, his expression calm but approving. "Good. You have learned more than I could have taught today. Not just technique… but trust. Your body and mind have advanced to Tier 2, Layer 2. Rest now, Lin Wei. Tier 2, Layer 3 begins at sunrise."

Lin Wei's chest heaved. He looked at the girl, who smiled faintly. "You're amazing, Lin Wei. Truly. But… don't forget, even together, there are threats stronger than us."

Lin Wei nodded. He didn't need to say it: he had felt the shadow of the silver-robed cultivator lingering over Qingyun, waiting. But now, he wasn't alone. The sword, the system, and the girl—his ally—would all guide him forward.

The Dao Sword System whispered softly, almost with pride: "Tier 2, Layer 2 complete. Sword Points accrued: 355. New Techniques available: Temporal Slash (Layer 1, Tier 2), Spatial Rend (Layer 1, Tier 2). Fate Thread Efficiency: +5% due to ally proximity. Continue training to unlock advanced Tier 2 abilities."

Lin Wei gripped the Primordial Sword tightly. He knew the path ahead would be filled with stronger enemies, trials that could fracture his body or mind, and dangers beyond imagination. But he also knew he had taken a crucial step.

Somewhere in the distance, the silver-robed cultivator watched, his expression unreadable. He would return. And when he did, Lin Wei would be ready.
