"Mommy, you can't like this uncle. You already have a daddy."
Rosalind didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She pinched Crystal's little nose. "What on earth goes on in that little head of yours all day?"
Crystal pouted and mumbled, "But Mommy's eyes don't lie."
Rosalind sighed and put a piece of beef on Crystal's plate. "Honey, eat up. It's your favorite diced beef."
Crystal's eyes lit up at the sight of the beef, and she finally quieted down.
Rosalind breathed a sigh of relief. 'Finally, some peace and quiet.'
...
After dinner, Rosalind glanced out the window. Snowflakes were drifting down from the sky.
"Honey, come look! It's snowing."
Crystal hopped off the sofa and ran to the window. It really was snowing! She jumped up and down excitedly. "Mommy, I want to go play in the snow!"
"There's no snow on the ground yet, honey. Let's play tomorrow. Besides, you need to go to bed early. Your daddy Opal is coming tomorrow. How about you play with him then, okay?"
