That night, Crystal Davenport carried a doll to Kael Davenport's room and knocked on the door.
"What do you want?" Kael opened the door a crack to look at her, a book still in his hand.
"You're my brother now."
Kael's expression was indifferent, the book still in his hand. "Oh. If there's nothing else, you can leave."
"Hey," Crystal tried to squeeze in, but Kael blocked her. "Let me in, Brother."
"I'm about to go to sleep."
"I'll sleep with you, Brother," Crystal said, still trying to push her way in.
"You have your own room."
"I'm scared to sleep alone. Please, Brother?"
Kael looked at Crystal's big, bright eyes, so innocent and pure, and finally relented.
Crystal entered the room, climbed onto Kael's bed, and tossed her doll aside. "Mommy never told me I had a brother. My dream's come true!"
"How childish," Kael said, glancing at her coldly.
"But we *are* kids," Crystal said, flopping down beside him to see what book he was reading.
