After Rhoda Sterling left, the event manager approached them, but she was there for Rosalind Lowell.
Alaric Davenport watched her warily, but ultimately gave them some space.
"Miss Lowell, you and Mr. Davenport make such a perfect couple. I never would have guessed someone so young and accomplished was already Mrs. Davenport."
Rosalind Lowell chuckled lightly. "You're too kind. I'm not nearly as independent and capable as you are."
Alaric Davenport saw their interaction was civil enough. Just as he was taking a sip of wine, a business partner came over.
He continued to chat, but his eyes kept drifting toward Rosalind Lowell. Then he saw the event manager actually take her hand.
The sudden intensity in his expression startled the business partner beside him, who thought he'd said something wrong. He pulled out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from his brow. "It's rather warm today."
