The sudden voice startled the unprepared Su Yu so much that her hair felt like it was standing on end. She whipped her head around warily.
But her forehead collided with Huai Xu, who had crouched behind her at some point.
Struck on the forehead, she couldn't help but suck in a sharp breath. Her eyes instantly reddened, and she quickly clapped both hands to her head.
Although Huai Xu's chin was also hit, his reaction wasn't as dramatic as hers. He hadn't expected to startle Su Yu, or for her to turn around so quickly.
He frowned. Seeing Su Yu clutching her forehead with a pouting expression, he disregarded everything else and reached out to pull her hands away. "Did that hurt? Let me see."
Su Yu blinked furiously, trying to blink back the reflexive tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm fine," she said, trying to be strong. "It just hurts a bit from the sudden knock. It'll be better in a moment."
