Vivian Sterling was taken aback. She was fond of Ian Donovan, but she wasn't in love with him. The one she truly liked was Jasper Sherwood; it was just that he wouldn't forgive her.
"Ian Donovan and I are good friends. I'm not like some rich girl who only has romance on the brain," Vivian Sterling retorted.
"Is that so." Nina Donovan wasn't annoyed. Her voice was languid. "Looks like my dear brother has moved on from secret crushes to public declarations. You'd better not betray his affections. Be the least bit kind to him, and he'd give his life for you."
Vivian Sterling's expression soured. Suddenly, she felt that standing with Ian Donovan was making them too conspicuous.
She retorted defiantly, "I don't know what you're talking about. There's nothing going on between Ian and me."
Ian Donovan's left cheek stung with heat and pain. He had only started making advances because Vivian Sterling had saved him. He'd thought it through and didn't want to live with regrets.
