At 12:30 in the afternoon, Aunt Bell knocked on the door right on time to bring her lunch. Lying listlessly on the bed, she called out coldly toward the door, "It's not locked. You can come right in."
"Alright," Aunt Bell replied, then turned the knob and brought the food in.
Charlotte hadn't eaten breakfast and was already starving. The moment the dishes were set down, she got out of bed on her own and sat at the dining table.
