The room felt heavy with silence.
Ryan stared at Ariba.
"You're telling me Victor Hale called you… and asked for help?"
Ariba nodded slowly.
"That's exactly what he said."
Ryan crossed his arms.
"That doesn't make sense. Victor is the one who built Phoenix."
Ariba walked toward the window.
The city lights flickered in the distance.
"Maybe he didn't build it," she said quietly.
"Maybe he was only part of it."
Ryan sighed.
"So what now?"
Before Ariba could answer, her phone rang again.
The same unknown number.
Ryan whispered, "Put it on speaker."
Ariba answered.
Victor's voice came through the phone.
"I assume you told Ryan already."
Ryan spoke angrily.
"You're insane if you think we'll help you."
Victor sounded calm.
"You don't understand the situation."
Ariba said coldly, "Explain."
Victor paused.
Then he said something shocking.
"The real Phoenix leader is someone you both know."
Ryan frowned.
"Who?"
Victor replied quietly.
"Someone very close to Ariba's father."
Ariba's heart skipped.
"That's impossible."
Victor continued.
"Your father discovered the truth years ago."
"That's why he was killed."
Ariba clenched her fists.
"Who is it?" she demanded.
Victor whispered a single name.
Ariba's face turned pale.
"No…"
Ryan looked at her in shock.
"What name did he say?"
But before Ariba could answer—
The phone call suddenly cut off.
At the same moment, the lights in the building went out.
Complete darkness filled the room.
Then a red laser dot appeared on the wall.
Ryan's eyes widened.
"Sniper."
Outside, somewhere on a rooftop, a sniper aimed directly at their window.
A calm voice spoke through a radio.
"Target confirmed."
Inside the dark room, Ariba and Ryan had only seconds to react.
