Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: The Everdark Sanctuary

The journey to the Everdark Asylum took Sudha through the forgotten parts of the world—places where the sun rarely touched the ground. She moved through the shadows of forests and the grimy corners of industrial ruins. With every leap, the hunger within her grew. It wasn't a hunger for food, but for essence. The Shadow Angel needed to feed on the fear of the world to maintain its form.

By the time she reached the gates of the asylum, the moon was a thin sliver in the sky. The building was a gothic nightmare of iron and stone, perched on a jagged rock formation. It was surrounded by a mist so thick it felt like velvet.

"Welcome home, Shadow," a voice hissed from the fog.

Sudha didn't flinch. She summoned a blade of darkness into her right hand. "Show yourself."

Out of the mist stepped a girl who looked no older than sixteen. She was dressed in rags, but her eyes were glowing with a vibrant, toxic green light. "I am Elara. I am the 'Light-Bringer' they failed to break. Your father... he's been waiting for the reunion."

"Where is he?" Sudha demanded, her shadow flaring behind her like wings.

"In the basement. In the 'Void Chamber.' But you should be more worried about the others," Elara said, pointing to the roof of the asylum.

Sudha looked up and saw them—dozens of children, all with glowing eyes of different colors. They were the experiments. The failed versions. The 'Broken Angels.' They were perched on the gargoyles like vultures, waiting for the signal to tear her apart.

"He's been trying to recreate you for years, Sudha," Elara whispered, her voice trembling. "He uses our souls to power the machines. If you kill him, we all die. If you don't kill him, he turns the whole world into this asylum."

Sudha felt a wave of nausea. Her father hadn't just betrayed her; he had industrialized suffering. The Shadow Angel within her pulsed with a violent urge to destroy everything.

Suddenly, the heavy iron gates groaned open. A path of crimson light lit up the driveway, leading straight into the heart of the darkness. At the end of the path stood Vikram, holding a glowing scepter that pulsed in rhythm with Sudha's own heartbeat.

"Step inside, Sudha," her father's voice boomed through the speakers. "The coronation is about to begin. Let the world see what a true goddess looks like."

Sudha looked at Elara, then at the 'Broken Angels' above. She realized that her father didn't just want her power; he wanted her to be the leader of this monstrous army. She had to make a choice: become the queen of the damned to save these children, or destroy the asylum and lose her soul in the process.

She gripped her shadow blade tighter. The air around her began to scream. The final confrontation was no longer a possibility; it was an inevitability.

"I'm not here for a coronation," Sudha shouted, her voice shaking the very foundations of the asylum. "I'm here for an execution!"
