Chapter 87 - Chapter 85. Destruction

Ruan

" Ashmoder" My heart was feeling confused when I met him again. A part of me was extremely happy to be with him while the other part couldn't help but hate him for the order he had given to us.

Ashmoder had a look on his face as he ignored me and went directly to face the soldiers, who were taking off their armour after the massacre.

" Get ready" Ashmoder gave the order and all of the soldiers stopped taking off their armous and put them back on.

What the hell? Who were we waging war against now?

" Where are we going?"

" To the human realm"

Ashmoder's eyes shone as he answered my question. Only then did I realize his outfit was covered in blood. I didn't want to know what had happened, but I guessed it had to do with the princess.

" Could you give us a day to rest?"

Ashmoder looked at me weird.

" Why?" Had he already forgotten his own order?

" Because we just came back from exterminating all the rebels. The army needs time to rest" and honestly? So did I. Watching the people I had learnt to care about die wasn't the best experience in the world.

" Why would you do that?" Ashmoder looked at me, utter confusion all over his face.

" You sent us a note telling us to kill them"

" Yes, the prisoners. I needed to make space for the humans, but now we've come to an understanding and I don't need it. What did you do?"

" Kill the rebels" My heart fell when I listened to him. He had never wanted to rebels gone. It had all just been a great misunderstanding. My heart fell even more when I realized what that meant. I could've lived a happy life with all of them if only Els hadn't misunderstood. I clenched my teeth.

" I wouldn't mind having them trying to screw me over again" Ashmoder patted me on the shoulder before turning again, already giving orders to everyone.

My heart warmed up with that pat and I steadied myself. I could fix everything. I just needed to finish Ashmoder's thing first.

I put my armour back on and mounted my mare as Ashmoder created a passage to Earth, the portal shimmering in the air.

So this was what he meant by war.

I smiled, as so did most of the other demons in the army. We were finally going to destroy the humans.

I guided my mare to the front, near Ashmoder.

" How many survivors?"

Ashmoder's smile was diabolical as he answered.

" None"

I smiled back. This was going to be fun.

I moved forward, my mare moving with me as we crossed over to the human realm.

The moment the humans saw us, which was almost immediately, they all went crazy. They begun attacking us, throwing our way their most powerful spells, not that they did anything at all. Most of them just slided right off my skin without ever touching me.

My amusement rose when I saw their faces, the color draining from all of them. They just stared at the army that was forming behind me as Ashmoder took off and attacked. The whole human outpost was destroyed in a single attack.

The floor turned red as their remains spread all over the place. I smiled as I dismounted and charged forward, towards the few remaining humans that were trying to run away from me. If all humans were this weak killing them was going to be a breeze.

I jumped and caught up to one, slashing him in two with my sword.

I got up with a smirk, killing was so much fun, ready to kill another one when a piece of metal hit me in the chest at full speed.

I glared at my bruised chest and then at a human hiding behind a bush, his arms pointing at me with a piece of metal. What was that? Curiosity overtook me. It had been a long time since anything had managed to harm me at all, not that the damage had been a lot.

I teleported behind the man, who twisted his head to look at me, panic in his eyes. He tried to raise that metal invention to attack me again, so I just slapped it away from his hands.

The human peed himself in fear as he backed away. I snapped my fingers and his head blew off, the blood tainting my clothes. Great, now I'd have to change them. This was why I didn't like fighting against humans. Their blood was red and didn't hide well in my back clothes, what was more, it stood out even more.

Once I was sure the man was dead, there was no coming back from not having a head my curiosity won the battle with the common sense telling me to go find another opponent and I crouched down and picked up the metal device. No matter how I looked at it it still seemed like just a piece of metal.

I grew tired of it soon and threw it into the ground, looking for another prey, but there were none in the forest, the army had already taken care of them all and divided to search for more while I had been too busy looking at the metal thing.

I ran up to Ashmoder and watched with him as the army dispersed.

" What do we do now? If we kill the humans this way it'll take centuries to take care of them all" Centuries wasn't much time, it wasn't even a speck of sand in the desert that was my life, but now that Ashmoder had a human daughter, well human he had to be careful. They only lasted a tiny fraction of our lives at most.

Ashmoder's smile was creepy as he looked at the corpses and then at the supplies he had ordered to be brought.

The lightbulb in my head went off at that exact second. He could kill the humans and give immortality to his daughter at the same time.

" You're going to steal the life force of everything in this planet" My voice was smug, I was proud I had figured it out by myself.

" I knew you'd get it, you're smart" Ashmoder laughed as he praised me, his eyes focused on the ingredients.

" What are we waiting for?"

" I promised someone something. We'll begin soon"

I nodded and stared into the horizon, hearing Ashmoder sighing besides me. I really, really didn't want to ask, but it was getting annoying.

" What's going on?"

" I don't want to do this. Love makes you stupid"

" Do you not want to kill all of them?" My voice was suspicious as I asked. I thought he loved a good massacre.

" No, no. I love that. What I hate is granting those humans immortality"

" Are you really doing that? I thought you hated them"

" But my daughter loves them" I could understand that, love made you stupid, even if it was just fatherly love.

" And your daughter?" Wasn't he going to make her immortal? Wasn't that the whole point of all of this?

" What?"

" Aren't you going to make her immortal too?"

" Whose daughter do you think she is?" Ashmoder was amused as he asked me.

I knew she was his daughter, but she was also part human.

" She is half human"

Ashmoder broke up in laughter, clutching his chest.

" Who told you that?"

" Isn't it obvious?"

Ashmoder just laughed harder.

" Stupid " He grabbed my chin and pulled me in for a kiss.

All the jealousy I had been pushing deep back down when I thought about the princess's mother disappeared as butterflies set flight in my stomach. My whole skin lit on fire, my heart racing, as I grabbed him and tried to kiss him back, but he pushed me away.

" I created her on my own because I wanted a daughter. She's only mine"

That explained a hell of a lot of things. My stupid heart did a somersault when it heard, happy to hear he had never truly loved, or laid, with another one in his whole life.

" Let's go get some life force"

I stopped staring at him with lovestruck eyes and looked around, where two humans were being scorted into the portal. I didn't know who they were, but I also didn't specially care.

" Are you ever going to tell her?"

" Tell her what? That I was so desperate to have a little thing that adored me that I created her out of nothing?" I hadn't phrased it like that, but yes.

I nodded.

" Nah, she won't ever know"

I nodded again as I followed him. That was so like him that I couldn't help it but smile.

We reached the ingredients, which were already perfectly placed, and Ashmoder sat on the middle, ready to steal all of their life force.

I watched as the army retreated back into Jinasia, not wanting to risk getting caught by the spell by accident. Honestly? I didn't even know why they had come. Well, I could guess. Ashmoder loved a good dramatic entrance. That was it.

I stayed right there, by Ashmoder's side. As it had always been and would always be. As was right.

I stared at the strange vegetation and animal life one last time before they were gone forever.

" Goodbye " I waved goodbye to it all in a soft voice so as to not disturb Ashmoder as the spell finally took effect and a blue light enveloped us, and then little by little took the rest of the world too.

I watched in dark amusement as the trees withered and died before my eyes, their shiny life force rolling into Ashmoder's open hands. Everything around us begun dying. First the trees, then the animals. The birds fell from the sky as empty husks of flesh, the thing that had kept them going all along missing.

The amount of golden life force flowing into Ashmoder's hands only increased by the second, as everything died.

I smiled as I looked at it all. Time to pay up, bitches.

In the special military forces fortress

Alana

Everyone watched in horror as a blue light started sorrounding us everywhere. Whatever the blue light touched fell to the floor, dead, a golden thread escaping from the corpses and disappearing in the direction the deadly blue light had come from.

The army mobilized immediately, trying to bomb the light or trap it, but no matter what they did it was useless. Everyone that touched it died.

" Bunker. I repeat, evacuate to the bunkers"

This was bad.

I ran with all my strength to the bunker, but it was already filled to the brim. I tried to push my way in, but they threw me outside.

I begun panicking. I knew that the bunker wouldn't save us, we all knew, but it was still better than dying without trying.

" Let me in!!" I screamed and banged on the door, but once it was closed it wouldn't open again.

All the other bunkers were the same.

This was it, this was the end.

I sat on the floor, defeated. This was the end of humanity.

It was kinda amusing if you thought about it. Humanity had destroyed nature and now nature was making us pay back.

I couldn't contain the laughter as the light touched my skin and all my strength left me. It wasn't so bad, I didn't know why I had struggled so much.

I smiled as I died, all my strength sapped away from me. This was truly the end.
