Lyan
I wanted to go outside and play. I didn't want to go to town to pick food, but mom had other plans. She had given me some money and told me to go buy some food.
Sulking, I entered the town and went straight to the candy store. Mom hadn't told me what to buy. A mischievous grin spread across my face as I entered the store.
" Three of every candy you have" I shouted as soon as I opened the door.
" Are you sure your mother gave you the money for that, sweetheart?" Lily said. I didn't get mad because I liked Lily. She always took care of me and she even gave me extra candy sometimes. She was like a grandma, because she was old. She was sooooo old that all her hair was white and she had wrinkles all over her face.
" Yep" I proudly showed her the money.
" How about I give you ten pieces of candy and then you go buy some vegetables" Her brown eyes gleamed with the certainty that I was going to listen to her, but I'd never buy vegetables.
" Noooo!!" I screamed as I picked a few candies and left the store.
" Get some vegetables!!" Lily shouted as I left the store giggling.
I looked down at my hands and smiled when I saw all my candies. I was the candy Queen, but I wasn't a thief, so as soon as I saw Maly, Lily's daughter, I gave her a few bills and ran away. I really didn't like vegetables, but maybe I could buy mangos. I liked mangos.
I ran back to Lily's store and ran to the counter.
" Can I buy mangos instead of vegetables?"
" Of course. Want me to help you?" I nodded and Lily helped me go to the fruit store and pick the perfect mangos.
" Mango!!" I jumped up and down while chewing on a piece of candy as we left the store.
" Give me that Grandma"
" Are you sure?"
" Don't you see my muscles?" I said, showing Grandma my strong biceps.
" You are very strong, but this is very heavy, are you sure?"
" I'm strong"
" Okay" Lily gave me the bag and I immediately dropped it to the ground.
" It's heavy. How many mangos did we buy?"
" Thirty. You made me buy thirty"
"Oh, yeah. I did that" I smiled mischievously as Grandma picked the bags up.
" To my house!!!" I jumped up and down, skipping and running as I ate my candy while Lily followed me.
" Don't run. You'll fall and get hurt"
Lily worried too much. I had been running my whole life and I had never gotten hurt.
"Nop" I said as I ran to my house.
My little cottage was finally visible. Mom's garden was flourishing, all the flowers shining, but there was no light coming from inside the house, which was kinda weird. Mom usually always left the lights on to see better. She was very old and couldn't see well, just like Grandma. I was sure she was secretly a grandma.
" Moooom!!! I bought mangos!!!"
" Don't run near your mother's garden. You're going to fall and ruin all the flowers"
I didn't listen to Lily and run anyway. When I reached the door it was wide open.
" Mom?" She didn't answer and the house remained dark. As I hovered my foot over the threshold my shadows pulled me backwards.
" Don't go" I heard them whisper. They were always so scared.
" I'm not listening to you!" I shouted and ran inside. My shadows tried to stop me, but I managed to step inside before they pulled me back outside.
The moment I entered the house a coppery scent hit my nose and I gagged. It smelled like when Mom brought meat after buying it at the slaughterhouse.
Before I could walk inside my shadows were already sorrounding me, pulling me back.
" Are you okay, sweetheart?" Lily ran to me, dropping my mangos.
" My mangos". I whined, but Lily didn't listen to me and roamed my body with her hands, looking for wounds.
" I'm fine" I reassured her, thought she didn't look sure.
" And your mother?" Grandma looked worried, so I petted her on the head like my mother did when I was worried.
" I don't know" I kept petting her. She was a good grandma.
" Wait here" Lily got up and left me on the floor. It was cool and I sprawled all over it, glad it wasn't so hot anymore. I hated summer. Only good thing was that I didn't have to go to class and learn about history or whatever. I was a mage. I didn't need to learn human history, but mom had forced me. I liked way better to stay at home and learn how to blow someone up, but mom said it was too dangerous. She never let me do what I wanted. She was evil.
" Did you see my mom?" I asked Lily as soon as she came out of the house. She was pale and didn't speak to me as she ran to me and took me in her arms.
" What's going on?" I asked Lily, but she ignored me and continued running, leaving the house and the mangos behind. I waved goodbye to my mangos as Grandma kept going.
" Do you have any other fami....'" Grandma didn't finish her sentence. She dropped to the ground, dropping me.
" Run" was all she managed to whisper before her eyes went white, blood flowing out of her from the dagger wound on her back.
" Grandma, Grandma. Wake up" I shook her, but she remained still. She was beginning to scare me. I didn't want to play this game anymore. Why wouldn't she wake up? I began to tear up. If she didn't wake up she wouldn't nag me anymore. I liked her nagging.
I turned around when I heard steps approaching.
" Help me. Grandma's hurt"
The tall guy coming towards us didn't listen to me and dropped to my level.
" Is she?" He asked, his blue eyes shining, but something about him wasn't right. I began backing away slowly.
" Yes" I said, still backing away.
The tall man just laughed and launched at me, but before he could touch me my shadows pulled me back.
" Run!!" They said and I did. I ran as fast as I could away from my house, but stopped when my shadows didn't follow.
I looked around and saw the tall man on the ground, blood underneath him and Shadowy, that was how I called my shadows, was standing in front of him.
Just as I relaxed, Shadowy would be okay, the man took something from his pocket and Shadowy was gone. My shadows returned to me but they were no longer talking.
" Shadowy?" I asked, but he didn't answer. He always answered.
I began to sob, crying. I didn't want to be alone. I wanted to bring Lily and Shadowy back. I kept crying and crying, not knowing what to do.
" Mommy!" I remembered. Momy and Daddy were still inside the house!
I ran back to my house and this time neither Grandma nor Shadowy stopped me. As soon as I entered I gagged. It smelled like rotten flesh.
" Mommy? Daddy?" I shouted, but they didn't answer.
" Mommy I'm scared" Mommy still didn't answer.
I walked through the whole first floor but didn't see them, so I went to the second floor.
As soon as I went up the smell intensified.
" It stinks" I muttered, but shut up quickly. If Shadowy had been here he would've told me to be quiet. I missed Shadowy. Why did he have to leave me? Who was going to play with me now?
I wiped my tears and silently entered the living room. Mommy... Mommy was there, but not fine. Her head was in a chandelier and her body was broken on the floor. Daddy was the same. He was also dead, stabbed with a knive through his chest with a pool of blood underneath him.
Tears came to my eyes. Mommy and Daddy were gone. Now I had no one. They wouldn't be with me anymore. I cried silently as I watched a woman laugh maniacally besides my parent's corpse, smiling like a psycho.
" Run" I could've sworn I heard Shadowy's voice near my ear. He had told me to run, so I did. Shadowy was never wrong.
I was just outside the house when another tall, dark, creepy man tackled me to the ground.
" Let me go!!!" I screamed.
" Found you" The man smiled " To think you are the half demon. You seem so weak" He laughed as he smashed my head into the ground.
My whole head hurt. It was even worse that the time I had fallen from the second floor window. My shadows tried to protect me, but were repelled by something. I was scared and hurt. I wanted my family back.
" Why'd you hurt Mommy?" I said in between hits.
" Because of you" He said in a sweet voice " You're a demon and need to be eliminated"
Their deaths were my fault. I began crying again. I wanted to go home. I wanted everyone to be okay. I wanted Mommy to read me a bed time story and tell me it had all been a nightmare. I wanted Shadowy to play with me. I wanted to hear Grandma's laughter. I wanted to taste Daddy's amazing pancakes. I wanted it all back.
" Stop crying" The man hit me in the face.
My whole head hurt. My face was on fire. I wanted Mommy to treat my wounds and tell me the bad man was gone.
" Now you die" He said with a devious smile as he held my neck and chocked me.
I couldn't breathe. I tried to get him off of me, but he didn't seem to mind my scratches as he increased the pressure.
I wanted him to be gone. I wanted someone to protect me. Just as I thought that black mist gathered around us and the next thing I knew the man was gone.
" Run" The mist said, gathering around me. The way it did reminded me of Shadowy.
" Shadowy?" I whispered, but the mist didn't answer me.
" Run. I can only interfere for so long. This world drains my energy in this form" The mist pushed me in the back.
" Where will I go?" I had no one left. They were all gone. I began sobbing again as the black mist gathered around me and the house disappeared and a big city appeared in front of my eyes.
" You'll be safe here" The mist said while touching my head. " Survive until I can come back for you. When I do you and I
will to rule the world and we'll kill all those pesky little humans and mages. The whole world will be ours."
" Can you kill the people who hurt my family?" I said in between sobs. I wanted them all gone. They were going to pay for hurting my family.
" Right now I can't. But there's something that can, the Blue death. Find it and you can raise your family back from the dead"
" Where is it?" I asked. I knew what I was going to do. I'd get my family back.
" I don't know" The mist sounded sad.
" I'll find it" I proclaimed, tears still streaming down my face.
" I'm sorry, bunny" The mist petted my head.
" Bunny? Are you Shadowy?" Shadowy always called me his bunny. Maybe he wasn't dead after all. I looked at the mist with hope in my eyes.
" I can't stay" The mist said as it disappeared little by little" but when I'm strong enough I'll come back and bring you home"
" And my family?"
" I'm all the family you need" I was now sure the mist was Shadowy. He always said that. He said that he was all my family and that one day he'd bring me home.
" Shadowy, if I can bring my family back, will you take them with us?" I was beginning to feel that maybe, and just maybe, everything would be okay.
" Perhaps" He said as he dimmed even more" Goodbye, bunny" He said as he disappeared.
I had to find that thing and bring my family back. Then we'd all be a happy family in wherever Shadowy lived. I was sure it's was a shadow realm with no light, but anything was better than losing my whole family.
" I'll bring them all back and get revenge"
