Chapter 20 - Chapter 19. Black mist

Lyan

The demon looked at us for a second and reacted. He moved his arm, aiming at Oscar's face and he slashed with his claws through his chin. A small line of blood formed on his chin and he stared at the demon as he launched again.

" Nobody touches me" Oscar growled and he went into full rage mode.

He took out a bloody knife from his pocket, I didn't know where he'd gotten that and didn't want to know, and attacked the demon.

The demon's claws clashed briefly with the dagger before Oscar twisted it and slashed through his hand.

The hand fell to the floor with a thump and the demon looked at it, confused. Oscar used that opening to attack and slit his throat. Black blood started pouring out of the open slash and Oscar backed away, but not before the dying demon managed to claw at his shoulder and make him bleed.

" Are you okay?" I ran to Oscar's side, but before he could answer aether gathered in his shoulder and healed him. I looked at Jack and nodded to him.

" Let's go" Oscar said, ignoring the fact that there was a corpse on the floor as he stepped on it to enter the infirmary.

We followed him and finally got outside, where we could see the forest, which was crowded with black shadows I guessed were demos. Without the lights from inside it was fairly difficult to make out the shapes properly, but they couldn't be students.

" What now?" I asked Oscar as we hid behind a bush and watched over a thousand demons come and go, some with blood on their hands, other carrying corpses to a pile that was forming near the forest entrance.

" Leave it to me" Orus said, taking off his clothes.

I immediately looked away, flushed.

" You can look if you want to"

" Never"

Orus laughed. When all his clothes were on the floor he ran into the demons headfirst and naked. He had finally lost it.

The demons spotted him and ran towards him, claws and weapons drawn, but before they could touch him Orus shifted and a great red dragon was standing in the middle of the demons, squashing half of them with his weight.

Orus roared and began breathing fire, killing a few hundreds of demons in a single attack.

" Wow" He had killed almost a quarter of the demons in a matter of seconds. He could kill them all and that way the spell wouldn't be cast and everything would be okay.

" Don't be so impressed yet" Jack said, pointing to a high ranking demon, which was gathering aether on his hands.

" We have to help"

" We have to run" Oscar grabbed me and Jack and ran with us to the forest. Just as we reached it I heard a piercing scream. I turned around and found Orus on the floor, wings gone and only a bloody piece of body remaining.

I pulled away from Oscar, wanting to help Orus, but he was stronger and dragged me along as Orus screamed, blood pouring out of the wound, demons slashing at him with swords, which luckily did little damage thanks to his thick scales.

A few seconds later we finally stopped, but Oscar didn't let go.

" We have to help"

" Wait for a second" He told me, still holding onto me, and looked at Jack. He nooded and started casting a spell. After a few seconds I heard a sizzling sound coming from above and looked up. A blue portal was forming above us and a red mass started crossing it.

Orus dropped from the sky and fell to the floor, which immediately turned red, but he hadn't come alone.

A few demons managed to pass through before Jack closed the portal and fell to the floor after casting a quick healing spell, all his magic exhausted.

I turned to look at Oscar, wanting to ask him what to do, but he was gone, already fighting the demons with his knife.

He protected himself with the blade while dodging the slashes coming from their claws. They seemed matched, but Oscar was faster. He used a split second opening to slash the first demon's stomach, sending his entrails flying all over the floor. The other demons looked at their friend and he used that second to slash the other demon's throat.

Now there was only one demon remaining and he didn't stand a chance. He managed to stop Oscar for a few seconds, but he was getting pushed back further and further, until his back was against a tree. The demon kept slashing, attacking, trying to protect his vitals, but he forgot to protect his lower region.

In a swooping motion Oscar dropped low, avoiding a slash meant for his eye and cut his crotch. The demon winced in pain and lowered his guard, taking his hands to the wounded area for a second. That was all Oscar needed. He got up in a split second and cut his main artery with the knife.

The three demons laid dead and Oscar was barely winded.

" Wow" I was impressed. He was very good at combat, much better than Mark, who could barely kick something right.

" Yeah, I know I'm impressive. And I'm as agile and flexible in the bedroom"

I blushed and looked away. Orus was still hurt, bleeding all over, but his wounds were slowly healing, his wings reforming into small mounds. I went to his side and started petting him, thinking that would help.

" You'll be fine. We'll all be fine" I told myself more than him.

" That's right" Oscar said and sat near me and an exhausted Jack.

Suddenly a black mist started gathering all over the academy.

" What's happening?"

" Code red" Oscar didn't need to say anything else. I immediately knew that anyone who was still trapped inside would be dead now.

" Where do we go now?"

" We wait until the mist disappears and then go back"

" That's all? They're going to pretend nothing happened?"

" It's not that big of a deal" Oscar laid on the floor, sprawling himself all over it and staining his clothes even more." It happens very often. The ones who lived will still live and have their lifes and those who died are dead, nothing else"

" That's cold"

" That's the way of life. But look at the bright side"

" What bright side? Jack is exhausted and won't be able to move for a few days and Orus is even worse off. He is hurt and can't even move" I looked at them. Orus was still healing slowly, but at least now he wasn't bleeding so badly after the healing spell Jack had cast before he fell exhausted, and Jack was as white as a sheet, laying on the floor with his eyes closed.

" Now I won't have to dispose of the body"

I sighed and focused on petting Orus.

A few hours later the black mist had cleared and Oscar told us we should go to the academy to get some sleep. It was already morning, the sun had risen while we were waiting for the mist to clear, so we could see better than before. The academy walls were painted in red.

" Change back" Oscar order Orus.

A few seconds later I was looking at a very naked Orus, but his shape was so bad that I didn't feel the need to size him up.

" Don't look at me like that. I'm fine"

" Sure" I told him, but got near him to help him in case he couldn't walk steady.

I supported Orus as Oscar walked over to were Jack was laying and picked him up like a potato sack, like Orus had taken me in what seemed so long ago and we started walking to the academy.

Once we were closer it was even worse. There was blood everywhere, and now that there was light the pile of corpses was clearly visible, and the blood, there was blood splattered everywhere. The only good thing was that the alarm had stopped sounding, so that meant there were no more living demons in there, which was comforting.

Inside there were corpses, both from the mages and the demons, limbs and blood all over. It smelled of death. It made me want to puke. I felt my food trying to get out, but pushed it back in as I helped Orus go to our room.

A few corridors away from our dorm the dean's voice boomed all over the place.

" Classes are suspended for the whole week. Due to the amount of wounded the infirmary is full, so please tend to your wounds yourself unless they are fatal ones. I'm glad you all survived, see you Monday"

The dean's voice stopped sounding just as we reached our dorm.

" Is she aware she killed people?"

" She doesn't care" Jack muttered.

" You call me a psycho, but everyone here is one, and the dean is one of the worst ones"

Jack and Orus nodded, agreeing.

Once inside I dropped Orus on the couch and ran to the bathroom. I grabbed the toilet and puked to my heart's content. After a while, feeling better and having puked all my food, I went to my room.

" Want some company" Oscar intercepted me before I could open the door.

" Where are the guys?"

" Resting in their rooms"

I nooded and turned the handle, entering my room.

" You sure you are good?" He shouted from outside my room. He seemed genuinely worried, not just wanting to get into my bed.

" Come inside" I let him in and laid on my bed, already on my pijama, since I had been with them though the whole ordeal, and he laid near me.

I turned to my side and he hugged me, placing his hands on my stomach. I could feel his warmth through the shirt and cuddled closer.

" Don't worry. I won't do anything sexual today"

I believed him. He didn't care about murder, but he had some morals.

I drifted off to sleep with a warm feeling and Oscar hugging me from behind.
