Chapter 17 - Chapter 16. Blood

Lyan

I woke up already dreading having to go out.

I stalled for as long as I could, but today we had specific class classes at first period and I had discovered that the teacher was quite strict. He once punished a guy to clean the toilets for a whole week just because he was five minutes late, so I'd rather not risk it.

I pressed my ear to the door and listened in for a while. After not hearing anything for two minutes I was almost a hundred per cent sure they were all having breakfast.

I opened the door and immediately fell into the floor. Jack was waiting at the door, arms crossed, hair slightly ruffled and a mischievous grin on his face that said he was up to no good.

" What do you say?"

I knew what he meant without him having to say it. I flushed red. I got up as quickly as I could and tried to bypass him, but he was just in front of me and that was impossible without touching him, so I grabbed his shoulder to push him away, but before I could push him he opened his mouth again.

" I'm not against this, not at all" He said while smirking. " But I do think you should first answer us and at least ask me if I want it. I'm a frail maiden after all" He put his arms protectively over his chest, as if I was trying to take advantage of him.

I immediately let him go and managed to squirm through the hole between his body and the doorframe.

" No need to squirm like that, thought I'll admit it's pretty sexy"

I turned even more red if possible and ran away from Jack, who just laughed.

I passed the small corridor to the main room and hesitated for a second. If Jack was here the rest of them could also be here, but anything would be better than staying with Jack after that. Mustering all my courage I opened the door and to my dismay Oscar was there, thought luckily Ours was nowhere to be seen.

I was getting myself ready to get roasted, but Oscar just nodded looking in my general direction, barely acknowledging my existence. His way of ignoring me and focusing on another thing while looking at me from the corner of his eye told me this was Mark I was dealing with and not Oscar. For once in my life Lady luck seemed to be on my side.

That was when Jack opened the door. Of course my luck wouldn't last.

" What did she say?" Mark asked Jack, a slight red tinge on his cheeks.

" I don't know. She hasn't answered yet"

Two pairs of eyes focused on me and I knew I couldn't stall any longer. They would pester me until I answered and maybe, just maybe, I already knew the answer.

" I wouldn't mind it" I muttered under my breath and left the room running. From our dorm I could hear Jack shout " I told you. I'm irresistible" and a smile formed on my lips. Idiots, the whole lot of them. Why would they want me, was it because I was the only girl, or did they really like me?

But I didn't have an answer except for Orus. I knew he liked me because I was his mate, but I wasn't sure about the rest. I would have to find out, and there was no way I was going into any of their beds, or all of us in one, before I knew.

First period, as all the class always was, was hell. The teacher had decided that since we were undead we would practice using our powers, so the students went around stabbing each other on the chest in total chaos while Mister Ress just looked.

All the undead were immortal unless you stabbed them with a silver stake in the heart or cut off their heads and then burned them to a crisp. Though I was an undead I didn't like getting stabbed, shot and attacked, unlike those guys, who happily went at each other's throats, so my whole class consisted of hiding under Mister Ress's desk hoping he wouldn't get tired and snitch on me.

Next period was combat class and I went expecting my ass to be kicked.

After changing in the bathroom, my human barrier was nowhere to be seen, I was late to the class, so I just slowly mingled with the students already there, hoping miss Maura wouldn't notice, but that was when I remembered Miss Maura wouldn't be able to move for a loooong time.

A substitute teacher, the PE professor, was standing in the middle of the class looking serious.

" Miss Maura won't be able to teach this class for a while, so I will be substituting until she's better"

' More like never' I snorted. If Miss Maura could even get up after five months I would consider her the strongest woman I knew. Only undead or shifters could heal that fast, the undead being faster than the shifters, but in cases related with silver weapons they were more or less matched.

" Today you'll be doing tackles. Make pairs and enter the rings. The first one to tackle their partner wins, and just so you know this will count towards the ranking"

Groans erupted everywhere. I, too, was angry. Now this excercise would count towards the ranking and I'd have to do my best. Uhhhh. I hated physical activity.

" Want to be my partner?" Mark asked me as soon as everyone started looking everywhere to find their partners. I wasn't expecting him to ask, he normally just avoided me altogether, but I didn't think he was a bad person so I went along.

" Sure"

We went into a circle painted with chalk on the sand as the rest of the students also went into the rings. Jack was with some blue haired guy and Orus was nowhere to be seen. That was weird. He usually never missed classes, but as I was pondering where he could be Mark tackled me to the ground.

" Pay attention" He said as he walked back to his side of the ring and we started again.

This time I took a fighting stance, legs opened slightly and lightly crouched. I waited for Mark to come near and when he came running and placed his hands on my shoulder with all his strength, trying to make me lose my balance, I twisted and changed my center of balance, desestabilizing him and I pushed him with all my might. He fell to the floor.

" Well done" The teacher said and I smiled. I was on fire today.

We went into our corners and began another round. Throughout the whole class I managed to tackle Mark three times and my self-esteem soared through the sky.

"Arun, you've won three times so you have three points. Mark, you have won twenty times so you have twenty points"

I never said I was good.

" I'm better than you. I beat you" Mark smiled brightly, looking at me in the eyes for one of the first times since we first met.

"Lier" I lied.

Mark got so close I could smell his scent, which, I had noticed was different from Oscar's.

" I liked that. Let's talk more" He flushed red and ran away. Cute. He was completely different from Oscar and I thought he was endearing.

After lunch and a few more classes it was finally free time.

I was alone after classes for the first time in a while. I had heard the guys talking about having some secret meeting on our dorm, but I wasn't going to evasdrop. It'd do that later on. I went to the library, determined to search through the books for a clue for the gem, I had been postponing doing that for a while, and reached the main door.

Whispers could be heard from inside, and I was turning around to go spy on the guys and try later on, once there was no one there who could catch me looking at weird books, when I heard someone whisper " blue death". I was immediately at the door, ear pressed to it, but it was no use, the sounds were too muffled to make out what they were saying except for a few words.

I opened the door, fearing that it would creak and alert the guys I was following, but having being a thief for so long had it's upsides, like being able to open a door very silently.

Once inside I started moving through the shelfs following two robed figures around the library. I still couldn't hear their conversations, but I didn't want to risk getting closer. The two robed figures stopped after a while in front of an empty wall.

' Weird' I thought, but it got even weirder when they took a knive and stabbed their hands, blood pouring slightly from the small slash they had made. They smeared the blood all over the wall and it started shining, weird arcane symbols, which were only taught in advanced classes, all over the wall.

The two guys entered through the shiny wall, which apparently wasn't one, just probably a very well done illusion spell. After the shiny symbols dissipated I went to the wall and started touching it everywhere, but it remained a wall.

I took a clip and pressed it into my index finger and a drop of blood poured out. I smeared my blood all over the wall, but it did nothing and unlike their blood, mine didn't disappear, so after seeing that it didn't work I cleaned the blood with my sleeve as well as I could.

' So only their blood works' I mussed.

I'd have to look for a way to get it, but it'd be impossible to get it without knowing who they even were.

Defeated, I looked around, searching for anything that could tell me who they were, but there was nothing. That was when I noticed a few drops of blood on the floor. It was their blood. Smiling, I cast a simple cleaning spell I had finally managed to learn, and made the blood float in middle of the air. Then I summoned a vial, which exhausted almost all of my magic, and dropped the blood onto the vial. I closed it and left the library. I would come back another day, when the robbed guys weren't here, and look around. I only had one chance and wouldn't risk it right now knowing there was someone down there.

Leaving the library with the vial in my pocket and hope reigniting in my heart, I went to my dorm door, already planning to spy on the guy's conversation, and pressed my ear to the door.

" Need to make her like you" I was pretty sure that was Orus.

" Why me? I'm the only one that treats her right. Jack should be the one hearing this. He pranks her constantly"

" She likes that" Jack sounded offended, but I did not, in fact like that.

" I think it's Oscar's fault. He's the crazy one"

" He wants you tell you all to fuck off and that he's the only one being real"

" He's the worst one" Ours muttered

" You're just jealous that I was the first one to have her pretty lips on my cock" Mark's tone had changed and by the way he was talking I was sure that was Oscar.

" Jealous? You didn't make her come, I did" Orus said smugly.

" Lucky you" Jack muttered.

By now my cheeks were red and I was seriously considering barging in, but if I knew them at all they would just continue with their conversation and even include me in it, which was a big no no.

" What happened?" Mark's voice was back to being normal.

" Oscar bragged about being the first one to have her lips on his thing" Orus answered.

" Oh, come on, stop pretending you don't know. It's true that if Oscar doesn't want you to know you won't see what's going on outside, but there's no way he wouldn't like you to hear that. I know you're embarrassed by him, but stop pretending" Jack sounded mildly annoyed, which was difficult to achieve.

" That's right. He can hear everything and by the way, are you that jealous?" Oscar had reappeared. " Try talking to her, but if you mess up, know that I will kill you"

" You can try"

I imagined the two of them going face to face, both of them growling and I'd be lying if I said that did nothing to set butterflies in my stomach.

" Hey, where are you going? Stop ignoring me!" Jack shouted.

" To do something more important and interesting than you"

" Hey" I heard Jack say and Orus huffed just as the door opened and Oscar looked down at me.

" Had fun evasdroping?"

Two pairs of eyes turned to look at me and now I had the last thing I wanted, their full attention.
