Chapter 7 - Secrets in the Mansion

Chapter 6 — Secrets in the Mansion

The mansion was quieter than usual that morning. Lina walked down the long hallway, her fingers trailing along the polished wood, thinking about the mysterious woman who had appeared the day before.

Her mind was restless, and every shadow seemed to whisper warnings.

"Miss Lina," a voice called softly. She turned to see Adrian, standing near the staircase, arms crossed.

"You saw her," he said plainly.

"I… I don't understand," Lina stammered. "Who was she?"

Adrian's eyes darkened, and for a moment, she felt a chill crawl up her spine.

"She is someone who watches everything in my world. And now, she watches you," he said, voice low and dangerous. "Not everyone who smiles at you is a friend."

Lina swallowed hard. Fear mixed with curiosity. "Why me?" she asked, barely a whisper.

Adrian stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "Because you are mine… by contract. And in my world, that means protection — or punishment."

Her stomach twisted. The mansion suddenly felt enormous, cold, and suffocating.

Trying to distract herself, Lina went about her daily chores — reviewing documents, practicing etiquette, even attending a brief lesson in mansion protocol. But everything felt heavier, more tense, knowing that someone unknown was watching.

Later, as she walked toward the study, she caught movement in the shadowed hallway. Two staff members spoke in hushed tones. Lina froze.

"…and Miss Lina doesn't know yet," one whispered. "Should we tell her?"

The other shook their head. "Not yet. Mr. Vale said everything must unfold in his timing."

Her heart skipped a beat. Her name. They were talking about her.

She backed away silently, trying not to draw attention. But the words stayed with her. Adrian's world wasn't just luxurious — it was full of secrets, power plays, and people whose loyalty she couldn't be sure of.

That evening, Adrian found her in the library, staring at the city skyline.

"You heard them," he said simply.

"I… I think so," Lina admitted.

Adrian's gaze softened for just a second — almost imperceptibly. "Good. Awareness is the first step toward survival. But be careful. Not everyone here will tell you the truth, even if they speak your name."

The words echoed in her mind long after he left.

As Lina sat back in the chair, she felt a small thrill, a mixture of fear and excitement. Adrian's world was dangerous, yes — but she also realized that she was no longer completely powerless.

Her eyes caught movement near the window. A shadow disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Lina's breath hitched. Someone was still here… watching.

And for the first time, Lina understood: in this mansion, every secret mattered, and every glance could be a threat.
