Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: The Dementors Arrive — The Patronus? Only Treating the Symptoms

When Lucian saw the newspaper photo of the maniacally laughing Sirius Black, he simply folded the paper and set it aside.

Because he knew something others didn't.

The truth was far more complicated.

And far more ironic.

Was Sirius Black really coming for Harry Potter?

No.

He was a man who had been wrongfully imprisoned for twelve years—a seeker of revenge.

His real target was the rat living comfortably in the Burrow.

Scabbers.

Lucian understood something else as well.

Black's escape did not signal Harry's danger.

It signaled something bigger.

The gears of Voldemort's return had begun turning faster.

A storm far greater than the "Heir of Slytherin" incident was coming.

Lucian stood by the window, watching dark clouds gather in the sky.

A faint, cold smile appeared on his lips.

Things were finally becoming interesting.

The New School Year

At the beginning of the new term, the Hogwarts Express raced through a massive storm.

Lightning flashed.

Rain battered the windows.

Inside the train, however, things felt warm and lively.

Lucian, Harry, Ron, and Hermione shared a compartment.

Hermione excitedly showed Lucian her new pet—

A large, fluffy ginger cat.

Crookshanks.

Ron, meanwhile, nervously protected Scabbers in his hands.

He clearly didn't trust the cat.

Lucian simply watched quietly.

Then—

SCREEECH!

The train suddenly stopped.

"Why did we stop?"

"Did something break?"

Students murmured nervously.

Then—

Click.

Every light went out.

Darkness swallowed the train.

A freezing cold spread through the air.

Not ordinary cold.

A cold that seeped into bones… into the soul.

Ron shivered.

Harry felt uneasy.

Even Crookshanks whimpered softly.

Slow footsteps echoed in the corridor.

Heavy.

Dragging.

The compartment door frosted over with ice.

Then a tall figure appeared outside the glass.

A creature cloaked in black.

Its face is hidden.

"W-what… is that?" Ron whispered in terror.

The creature didn't answer.

A decayed gray hand slowly reached from the cloak.

It pulled the door open.

The cold intensified instantly.

Harry suddenly felt like he was drowning in icy water.

All happiness drained from him.

He heard his mother screaming.

Pain.

Despair.

His body collapsed.

Harry fainted.

The Dementor

The creature was a Dementor.

A guard from Azkaban.

It had come searching for Sirius Black.

And now it turned toward Harry.

Lucian watched silently.

For the first time, disgust appeared in his eyes.

Creatures that survived by feeding on happiness…

Parasites of despair.

They didn't deserve to be killed.

They deserved to be purified.

Lucian moved slightly, shielding Hermione.

His mind activated instantly.

Heaven-Defying Comprehension — Initiated

Research Topic:

A spell capable of erasing negative-energy entities like Dementors.

Concept:

Dementors embody cold and despair.

Therefore the perfect counterforce is the ultimate concept of warmth and hope.

Modeled after the sun itself.

Spell Constructed.

Spell Name: "Radiant Sunlight."

Lucian slowly raised his hand.

But before he could cast—

A voice shouted.

"Stand back!"

The ragged man who had been sleeping near the window stood up.

Professor Remus Lupin.

He raised his wand.

"Expecto Patronum!"

A brilliant silver light erupted from the wand.

It formed a magnificent silver wolf.

The Patronus charged forward.

The Dementor shrieked as the light struck it.

Its shadowy body recoiled and fled.

Moments later, the wolf dissolved into sparkles.

Warmth returned to the compartment.

Lucian lowered his hand.

The tiny golden spark forming at his fingertips vanished silently.

Chocolate

Lupin opened his worn suitcase and handed everyone chocolate.

"Eat this," he said gently. "It helps after a Dementor attack."

Harry, pale and shaking, accepted a piece.

Ron and Hermione did the same.

But Lupin suddenly noticed something strange.

Harry looked ghost-white.

Ron and Hermione were visibly shaken.

Even Lupin himself felt drained.

But Lucian…

Lucian looked completely normal.

Calm.

Unbothered.

As if the Dementor had been nothing more than a cool breeze.

Lupin's mind reeled.

That shouldn't be possible.

Dementors attacked the soul itself.

No wizard was immune.

Yet this thirteen-year-old boy…

Showed absolutely no effect.

Lupin stared at him, deeply shaken.

Who exactly was this student?

The Patronus Lesson

The train incident quickly spread across Hogwarts.

Harry's extreme reaction became the biggest topic among students.

Meanwhile, Professor Lupin gained instant respect after summoning the powerful wolf Patronus.

Soon after, Lupin offered to personally teach Harry the Patronus Charm.

The news spread quickly.

Students were amazed.

The Patronus Charm was considered one of the most advanced defensive spells.

Many adults couldn't even perform it.

Everyone envied Harry.

Hermione's Advice

One evening in the Gryffindor common room, Hermione approached Lucian.

She held a thick book about the Patronus Charm.

"Lucian," she said seriously.

"You should learn it too."

She pointed to a passage explaining that the Patronus was the only reliable defense against Dementors.

"I know they didn't affect you," she continued.

"But it's still an extremely powerful spell."

"With your ability, you could master it easily."

Lucian calmly replied:

"No need."

Hermione blinked.

"Why?"

Lucian looked at her.

"The Patronus uses happy memories to create an energy shield."

"It repels darkness."

He paused.

"That is a passive defense."

Then he said simply:

"I don't need defense."

Hermione looked confused.

Lucian explained:

"When absolute light arrives…"

"Darkness doesn't get driven away."

"It loses the right to exist."

"It is simply…"

"Purified."

Lupin's Invitation

Hermione secretly told Lupin that Lucian was interested in the Patronus Charm.

She hoped Lupin could convince him.

After Harry finished a difficult Patronus lesson one afternoon, Lupin approached Lucian.

"Lucian," Lupin said warmly.

"I heard you're curious about the Patronus Charm."

"I know Dementors don't seem to affect you."

"But this spell represents the highest form of positive magic."

"I'd be happy to teach you alongside Harry."

Lupin expected any student to accept.

Especially a prodigy like Lucian.

But Lucian shook his head.

"Thank you, Professor."

"But that won't be necessary."

Lupin blinked.

"Why?"

"Are you… not interested in the Patronus Charm?"
