Chapter 4 - Chapter 2:A lot of cream, not a lot of fun.

For some reason all of the people near me were strangely silent and taking quick looks before looking at something else quickly.

Did I leave some cream on my face after my morning coffee? No, I am pretty sure that Papa would have told me if that were the case.

Hmmmm.

Before I could think about it any further a loud screech came from the large speakers as the mic got plugged in, causing many people to visibly wince or for some to even cover their ears.

As my attention was drawn to the podium I noticed that a middle-aged man was now standing there with the mic in his hand, his pose reminding me of a certain jerk.

-"Welcome everyone to our wonderful company, Daydream Inc.! Where you can fulfill even your wildest dream!"

The projector above him turned on, illuminating the room a tiny bit more, where the two mascots of the company had their arms spread wide in a welcoming gesture, the fox and dragon having one hand onto the others waist while the other was thrown up in the air.

I kind of ship it.

After a brief round of applause from all of my fellow coworkers the orientation continued for what felt like hours.

This is so booooorrriiiiiing.

I stopped paying attention after they started listing all of the various beauty products that they make. Foot creams, hand creams, face creams, back creams, elbow creams...

I suddenly got jolted back to active consciousness only once the Cream Man started talking about our duties.

"-and so I now have to give you your due congratulations, for not only managing to pass the 145:1 competition, but also for managing to join our new experimental division! The !"

Many people were a bit confused, me included, as we were not notified that we would be assigned to an *experimental* anything.

-"I thought that we would be in charge of stuff like research or PR or advertisements."

-"What does the Field part even mean? Do we have to be door-to-door salespeople?"

-"ugh, I hope not because I bet that they'll make us start in our neighborhoods, I don't feel like getting avoided by even the stray dogs."

I was trying to remember if papa told me anything about this but I couldn't remember much from the night before as I got pretty drunk.

Cream Man started tapping the mic in order to get everyone's attention, and after dramatically clearing his throat, he started to explain.

-"I know from looking at all of your faces that you must be confused, but do not worry, we aren't going to make you door-to-door salespeople, that would be a much too demeaning position for valuable employees such as you.

No, your job will entail going to various high-end locations or businesses and advertise our products."

...

That just sounds like a door-to-door salesperson but worded a bit more nicely.

Everyone felt pretty insulted, or at least I assume that they think that because I most certainly am, especially since I am very shy! I am not good at talking with strangers!

Just as I was about to stand up and just tell papa that I will go work somewhere else, Cream Man started talking, but this time his tone was more serious.

"Now since you all would essentially be representing our illustrious company, we have to make sure that you are properly qualified, and so we decided that in order for you all to start as full employees, you will all participate in a training exercise.

We have *convinced* the city to let us, and by us I mean you, to go to one of our city's subway stations and advertise our products there. A supervisor will be hidden amongst you all that will judge your performance, how you advertise our products and how you represent our company, which will decide whether you will be full time employees from the start.

Or Interns."

There's no way that that is legal, right?

Screw this, I am going ho-

Buzz Buzz.

I took out my phone and saw that I got a new message from papa:

-"If you don't manage to get in as a full time employee then I'll ban you from reading any more novels until you move out."

...

Fuck me.
