She takes maximum profit from anything. But even she isn't a monster that extracts money from someone whom she failed to protect. She isn't someone whose heart is cold enough to take money from twins who have lost their pillar.
She only said that to lighten the atmosphere, like a joke, but to think Naoya took that seriously.
She knows that Naoya is a weird kid; for an heir of an important household, he talks and performs like there is no greater meaning in life. For a Child, he was death. For a child, he is too knowledgeable.
People who live in hell think the whole world is hell. Mei didn't want Naoya to think that the whole world is like what is inside the Zenin clan. She wanted him to live a healthy life, fall in love, and blush when he sees a beautiful woman.
Even though she herself is a woman whose only focus is money and nothing else, even she doesn't what to live in second chance which is given to her by child who think his world ended even before it started.
Adults are supposed to protect children; just because this is jujutsu society doesn't mean she intends to change that undeniable rule that is hammered into them.
She is Mei Mei, a proud businesswoman, and she didn't do business with only partial profit. She is a greedy woman who sucks the marrow from the bone.

I slowly stood up. Even though the Reverse Curse Technique and Blinding Vow are active. I know this is going to be the last stand; next fall is going to be the last.
Even though I am inside the Innate Domain, the brief wind blew past me, giving a cooling sensation to my face. I looked around the forest. Even though it's not green, it still gives a moment of tranquility and peace.
"So this is where I am going to die. Can't say I am sad. But I did want to die of old age in a countryside house with my dog. But alas, life will never go in a way we want. Damn, I should have opened a deposit in Maki's and Mai's names so they have something in the future if they wish for a change from the original timeline. I hope they at least remember someone like me lived when they get old." Not that I'm presupposing it or something, but it would be good if someone was there to remember me.
I looked at the finger bearer, who also healed from his injury from the explosions. "Let's get down to the last standoff, you persistent son of a bitch. Why didn't you appear in the anime with that power? I could have at least prepared against you. Fuck that Gege son of a bitch and the world he created. " I murmured to myself and positioned my sword.
Just then a black crow slammed into the curse and exploded. I instantly know it was
"MEI, WHY DIDN'T YOU RUN AWAY?"
"Oh, I am not going without getting my full pay. Why don't you run away and collect the money first-hand? I will come to you after I finish this course," Mei said with a grin. But that grin didn't last long, as the curse threw a rock at Mei, which slammed into her head. She momentarily lost her balance; the next second, she knew the curse was already in front of her with its fist coming crashing down.
Physically Mei is weaker than Naoya, and even then the reason Naoya held on till now was because of the reverse curse technique, and Mei Mei didn't have that. If Mei Mei, who is weaker than Naoya and doesn't have the reverse cursed technique, got connected with that punch, it will be an instant K.O. to death.
Knowing this fact, Naoya didn't waste a single second as the projectile sorcery activated, and he was in front of Mei, blocking her from the punch.
When the punch connected. Instead of the usual bone-breaking sound...
