Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

~Myst Nix~

Watching as Goodwitch continued to berate Ruby while only occasionally doing the same to me, I quickly realized that she, or more accurately Ozpin, were more interested in Ruby since she was Summer's child and had silver eyes.

So I paid only half attention to what was happening as I spun my tickets.

Rolling Silver Ability Gacha...

An Uncommon Ability

[Bullseye]

[Rarity: Uncommon]

"Boom, headshot." Bullseye creates bullseye reticle crosshairs on several random spots on all targets in your line of vision, hitting one of these crosshairs in the middle with a projectile automatically turns into a critical hit, amplifying its power and damage. With training, you can more accurately place crosshairs on targets.

That is... insanely good for me, my best and only weapon is a bow. Guess I'm playing ranger in this crazy world. Well not bad, let's go again!

Rolling Silver Random Gacha with advantage...

[Ability - Soul Spear]

[Rarity: Rare]

Darksouls - Draw energy from your life and soul and shape it as a weapon, the power of the soul condensed, refined, and sharpened into a powerful spear that can curve mid-air to home in on enemies and pierce through defenses. As the origin of the spear is linked to the soul, its power scales with the might of one's soul in addition to their energy levels.

Or

[Familiar - Evil and Intimidating Horse]

[Rarity: Trash]

An otherwise regular, incredibly healthy thoroughbred horse with great genetics but is very intimidating and evil.

I chose Soul Spear immediately.

As soon as I saw the trash rarity my mind was sold. Not only was soul spear the literal only option here, it was also insanely good.

RWBY's entire power system revolved around the soul. This was possibly one of the best possible things I could have gotten out of the Gacha.

Mentally bringing up the system storage, I had to make sure I was right as I let out a quiet sigh.

__Abilities__

-Active(1/1)-

[Uncommon - Holy Weapon]

__Storage__

[Rare - Soul Spear]

Yep, ability slots, gotta love it. I tried activating Soul Spear alongside Holy Weapon, an incredibly dumb thing to do in my situation right now but I clearly was not thinking. It however was a simple discovery, it wouldn't work.

I could instinctively tell it wouldn't work, however as I still tried to do so, it felt like I was bashing the wrong shape into the wrong hole on one of those baby toys. It wouldn't activate no matter what, it would have to be one or the other.

Mentally pulling out Holy Weapon, I slotted in Soul Spear as I instinctively knew something else. There was a 5 minute cooldown when swapping abilities. I could also feel myself become slightly more fatigued.

Honestly good to know in this controlled environment, that cooldown could cost me if I'm not careful.

Munch. Munch.

I was broken out of my thoughts by the sound of eating. Glancing to my side, I saw Ruby with her hands on a plate of cookies, realizing she was chewing loudly as she swallowed the last one she ate as she looked at me with an embarrassed smile. "Want one?"

Ignoring the crumbs on her face which made her look adorable, I nodded as I took the cookie and ate it, a pleased hum escaping my lips. "Good cookie."

"I know right?"

Glynda watched our exchange and frowned slightly, glancing over to the man beside her as he looked at us with the expression of someone who had seen too many people get along.

He had light silver hair and thin brown eyes that while hidden, showed the sight of a man who had seen far too much. He had on slightly shaded glasses and a small purple cross pin on the cowl around his neck. He wore a black suit over a dark green, buttoned vest and green shirt. He also wore black trouser shoes and long, dark-green pants.

His right hand was empty, having set the tray of cookies down, while his left held a mug with the Beacon Academy Emblem on it. I could smell the coffee coming out of it.

As Ozpin and Ruby spoke, I noticed his eyes briefly looking over at me every now and then, his attention was on Ruby, but he was at least somewhat interested in me. I didn't really know how to feel about that.

"Well I want to help people, and I want to fight monsters so I thought, why not make a career out of it? And my parents always taught me and my big sis to help others so it works out! Sure police are cool but Huntsman and Huntress' are so much cooler and--" As I listened to Ruby ramble, I just saw Ozpin nodding along softly, Glynda beside him with a small, almost unnoticeable hint of something akin to nostalgia before it was quickly masked into neutrality.

Whenever I had realized she had stopped, Ozpin asked if she wanted to attend his school, Ruby obviously said yes and he spoke up. "Well alright, Ms. Goodwitch, please see Ms. Rose out of here, I have something to discuss with this young man." Glynda nodded, motioning for Ruby to follow her as she did, not before giving me a small smile and a thumbs up before leaving through the door. Guess she hoped well for me, cute.

"So... something you want to speak to me about?" I asked, looking into Ozpin's eyes as he was quiet for a moment, his face looked neutral but something about his gaze made it seem like he was psycho analyzing every small detail about me.

"Cameras showed 5 men walked into that shop earlier tonight. One was the criminal, Roman Torchwick, he escaped as we know thanks to both your and Ms. Rose's testimony, as well as Ms. Goodwitch's, and the rest were his hired goons. When police arrived however there were only 3 of them, no trace of the fourth with only broken chunks of ice at where the cameras showed he stood. Do you have any idea what may have happened to that man?"

I froze, I tried not to, god I tried to calm myself but I couldn't. The moment he started speaking I knew what he would ask. I didn't like it.

I wasn't naive enough to think I wouldn't kill anyone in this world, there were some people I could think of that would have to die, but I just wasn't really prepared for it.

The worst part of it though was that I barely felt anything. After the initial shock I couldn't bring myself to care. How? Why? Why was I so indifferent to killing that guy? "I have no idea sir." I lied with absolute certainty.

Ozpin took a sip from his mug, it was a slow, methodical sip. The sound echoing in the small room before he gently set his cup down beside his hand. "There was just one camera in that shop, and it pointed directly to you Mr. Nix. However police have been unable to locate that footage as it has seemingly disappeared from the system."

Of course he'd know it's a lie! Shit! "Then... Why haven't I been arrested?" Ozpin's lips formed into a small smile, not one with ill intent, or if it had any it was incredibly well hidden, he looked more like an uncle who had saw his nephew do something interesting.

"Tell me Myst," Hearing him say my name like that made an involuntary shiver run down my spine. "What do you know about that bow you used?"

I glanced away, staring at the emblem on his mug before I shrugged. "Don't know, it's just a part of me."

"So it's your semblance?" Fuck, how do I answer that? I can't say 'No actually, I died and got given a crazy Gacha that gives me literally anything.' What would make sense here?

"Not in that way no, more like a family heirloom... I don't know where it really came from but now I have it."

He nodded, seemingly accepting my answer though I really doubted he did. "Well then, I have just two more questions to ask you. What is your semblance then? You have a respectable amount of aura even by professional Huntsman standards. Besides, the footage showed you called that bow out from thin air."

"My semblance is..." I can't even lie ,how would I ever explain the different types of abilities I'll have later on if I try to just stick with one. "It's like a roulette."

"A roulette?" Ozpin asked, his eyes not looking away from mine as I nodded.

"Yeah I just found out about it recently. Whenever I achieve something I get a chance at the roulette, and it gives me something. The bow was just one of the rewards."

"Could you show off another one of the rewards then?"

I nodded, mentally swapping back in Holy Weapon as I brought out the Hoarfrost bow from the system storage before channeling my energy, or well my aura, into the bow as it began to glow once again.

"This is Holy Weapon, I can imbue my weapon with 'Holy Light' which makes it stronger and makes it more fatal to things considered 'dark-aligned'."

"Dark-aligned... How effective is this on Grimm?"

"I don't know." His expression changed into one of clear doubt. "I'm serious! I've never hunter any Grimm so I don't know but I guess it would be at the very least twice as effective damage wise."

Ozpin nodded in thought, one hand over his mouth as he soon stood up, making me look up at him as he spoke. "Well then Mr. Nix, this was a pleasant conversation. Now for my final question, would you like to come to my school?"

I could say no, I'd probably be forced or coerced in some way but you know, it's nice thinking I have an option. Though even if I didn't, my answer was set from the start.

"Yes, I would like that sir."

Going to Beacon would not only keep me in the most plot centered area, but it was also the best way I was going to get tickets to fuel what I could clearly feel.

My growing Gacha addiction.

"Very well, I'll see you tomorrow." He motioned for me to follow him, making me do so as I followed him out of the police station before he then sent me along my way as I began to slowly walked through the city, staring up at the night sky as I stared at the shattered moon.

This is the beginning to something greater than myself. And I'm going to have to go through everything.

I stared at the text box, blinking slowly before sighing.

I really wished this thing had a manual or something.

[Explanation: Feats]

Oh you piece of--

A/N: You may think he's getting too many tickets at the start, and while yes he probably is. There is no way Ozpin is not going to plan around Myst's ability. Even if he doesn't know the full story which Myst will probably never tell. The idea of accomplishments giving him possibly any reward is going to make him think of some way to use him against Salem, that's just the kind of guy he is.

Gonna try to flesh that out a bit more next chapter, hope y'all enjoy this story. I really want to do good with this story. Also no set schedule right now, just gonna make and then see where I'll keep it.
