Liam listened as Sylvia leaned back in her chair, her voice calm but firm. "It was actually a test for you, Liam. I needed to make sure you were really the chosen one."
He stared at her for a second, his mind spinning. The room felt a little smaller all of a sudden, with Director Elena sitting quietly nearby. Liam rubbed the back of his neck. "Why didn't you just ask me? That's all I wanted, to take Simon down. I thought we were on the same side here."
Sylvia let out a long sigh and looked away for a moment. "I lied. I can't take him down myself. He's got too many factions backing him, and the monster activity outside the walls keeps getting worse. Raids are happening more often now. I had to know for sure before I dragged you into anything bigger."
