"I never wanted you." The words came from Seraphine with a bitterness Elara had never heard from her before. She stood a few feet away, her expression was hard, and there was something beneath it that looked almost like regret.
"When I had you, I could have decided not to keep you, but I did. I kept you because I thought you would grow up to be perfect, someone even greater than me. I thought you would have powers greater than mine, but instead, you became this." Seraphine's eyes moved over Elara with disappointment.
"I had no choice but to leave you behind and return to the Vale. You were supposed to live a good life with the Lycans, Elara. Even if that life would never be with me. My sole purpose is to protect my people and bring them to a better place, and you were never one of the people I swore to protect. You were a Lycan. Your father was a good man, I did not expect you to turn out like this."
