Chapter 63 - Chapter 20: Part 03

The clinic visit turned out to be far worse than Shirō expected.

She had hoped it would be a simple check-up. Maybe some questions, maybe a quick examination, and then they'd be done. But no. Of course Fujimura had to go overboard.

Before Shirō even realized what was happening, she was being shuffled from one test to another like some kind of lab rat. A CT scan. An X-ray. An MRI. Blood test. Urine test. At one point, she half-expected them to ask for a DNA sample just to make sure she wasn't some kind of alien.

Fujimura, of course, had been delighted by the whole process. She hovered nearby, watching everything like some overenthusiastic guardian, throwing out comments and questions that made Shirō want to bury herself in a hole.

"Hey doc, you think she has some weird hormone imbalance or something?"

"Can you check if she's secretly a robot?"

"What if she's actually a government experiment?!"

Shirō had to resist the urge to strangle her.

The worst part was that the doctor, a middle-aged man with graying hair and a tired expression, actually entertained some of Fujimura's nonsense. Not because he believed it, but because he seemed genuinely baffled by the results.

"Well," the doctor said, flipping through the reports, "this is… interesting."

Shirō, sitting on the exam table, barely kept herself from groaning. "What now?"

The doctor glanced at her, then at the papers, then back at her. "You're in perfect health."

Fujimura beamed. "Told ya, Saber-chan! You're gonna live forever!"

The doctor sighed. "No, you don't understand. She's not just in good health. She's too healthy. This level of physical condition is practically unheard of."

Shirō frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Your bone density is incredibly high while maintaining flexibility. Your muscle composition is exceptional. There's no sign of scarring, no internal wear and tear, and your organs are in peak condition." He flipped to another sheet. "Your metabolism is fast, but not dangerously so. Your bloodwork is flawless. No deficiencies, no abnormalities. In fact, your white blood cell count suggests an extremely strong immune system."

Fujimura whistled. "Damn, Saber-chan, you're built like a superhero."

Shirō shifted uncomfortably.

The doctor tapped a pen against the report. "Your MRI scans show no irregularities in brain activity. And your X-ray results… I have to be honest, I don't think I've ever seen such perfect spinal alignment and bone structure in a living person."

Fujimura grinned. "So what you're saying is, Saber-chan is basically cheating at being human."

The doctor gave her a flat look. "That's not how I'd put it, but…" He exhaled, setting the reports aside. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you were designed to be in peak condition. Like someone artificially engineered you for physical perfection."

Shirō tensed.

Fujimura, however, clapped her hands. "Aha! I knew it! Saber-chan is a government experiment!"

Shirō shot her a glare. "I'm not a government experiment."

"That's exactly what a government experiment would say."

Shirō groaned.

The doctor rubbed his temples. "Miss… Saber, was it?"

Shirō hesitated, then nodded. "Yeah. Saber."

He gave her a serious look. "Are you sure you haven't undergone any kind of genetic modification? Have you ever been involved in… unusual medical procedures?"

Shirō thought about Avalon, about the way her body was practically an extension of a legend now. About the transformation she'd undergone. She thought about Excalibur itself, the way its power resonated with her very being.

She couldn't exactly tell the doctor she had become a Heroic Spirit.

So she just shook her head. "No. Nothing like that."

The doctor didn't look convinced, but he didn't press. Instead, he scribbled something down on a notepad before tearing off the sheet and handing it to her. "I want you to check back in a month. Just to monitor any changes. If anything unusual happens—strange symptoms, unexplained fatigue, anything—you come straight here, understood?"

Shirō sighed. "Yeah, got it."

Fujimura patted her on the back. "See? That wasn't so bad."

Shirō gave her a deadpan stare.

Fujimura ignored it. "Come on, let's go home. I need to celebrate the fact that my cute little Saber-chan is basically a demigod."

Shirō groaned again, already regretting everything about today.
