The morning started out quiet enough. Sakura had left early, saying she had something important to take care of, though she hadn't elaborated. Shirō didn't think much of it at first—Sakura had her own life, her own responsibilities. Maybe it was school-related, maybe it was something about her family. Whatever it was, she had looked serious when she left. That was enough reason for Shirō not to pry.
But then there was Fujimura.
Shirō should have known she wouldn't let things slide so easily. After last night's conversation—after all the shock, the disbelief, and the reluctant acceptance—Fujimura had taken it upon herself to handle things the way she saw fit. And that was why, instead of having a peaceful morning, Shirō found herself sitting across from Fujimura at the breakfast table, staring at her warily as she tapped her fingers against her mug of tea.
"So," Fujimura said, breaking the silence. "Doctor."
Shirō frowned. "What?"
"You," Fujimura pointed at her, "are going to the doctor. Today."
Shirō blinked. "No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes and yes."
Shirō scowled, setting her chopsticks down. "Fuji-nee, that's not happening."
Fujimura gave her a long, scrutinizing look. "Oh, it's happening. You think I'm just gonna sit here and pretend everything's fine? You woke up in a completely different body, Shirō. A girl's body. You don't think that's a medical emergency?"
"I feel fine."
"That's what all idiots say before they collapse from some unknown condition!" She huffed, crossing her arms. "You're going, end of discussion."
"There's nothing a doctor can do about this, Fuji-nee."
"You don't know that."
Shirō sighed. He didn't want to argue, but he also wasn't about to let Fujimura drag him off to a doctor's office where he'd have to explain this. How was he even supposed to start? "Hey, doc, I used to be a guy, but then I woke up as a girl overnight, and I don't know how or why. Can you fix that?"
Yeah. That wouldn't go well.
Fujimura tapped her fingers against the table, clearly thinking. "Alright. If you don't want a hospital, we can go to a clinic. A general check-up. Just to make sure you don't have any weird health issues from… whatever this is."
Shirō shook his head. "Fuji-nee—"
Fujimura cut him off, slamming her hands onto the table. "Shirō!"
Shirō flinched.
Fujimura's expression softened a little. "...Look, I know you don't want to do this. I get it. But I need to make sure you're okay. You're important to me, damn it. If something's wrong with you and we don't do anything about it, I'd never forgive myself."
Shirō opened his mouth, then closed it. Fujimura wasn't the type to get this serious over nothing. She was always the playful older sister, the one who messed around, made dumb jokes, and refused to act her age. But right now, she was genuinely worried.
And that was hard to ignore.
He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "...A clinic?"
Fujimura's eyes lit up. "Yes. A clinic."
"Just a basic check-up."
"Just a basic check-up!"
"...And if everything's normal, we drop this?"
Fujimura paused for half a second too long. "...Sure."
Shirō narrowed his eyes. "Fuji-nee."
"Fine, fine! If the doctor says you're in perfect health, I won't push any more medical stuff on you. Happy?"
Shirō exhaled through his nose, feeling like he was walking into a trap. "...Fine."
Fujimura grinned, grabbing her coat. "Great! Let's go before you change your mind!"
Shirō was already changing his mind, but at this point, he knew better than to fight it. Fujimura wasn't going to let this go. And if getting a check-up was what it took to calm her down, then so be it.
At least he could hope the doctor wouldn't ask too many questions.
