Chapter 38 - THE QUESTION OF TOMORROW

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

As the investigation moved forward, Aisha began to think about the future more seriously.

Her relationship with Daniel was growing, but she wanted to make sure they were building something strong enough to survive beyond the excitement of their reunion.

One Sunday afternoon, they sat together at a quiet café.

"Daniel, can I ask you something?"

"Anything."

"What do you see happening between us?"

He put down his cup.

"I see us continuing to build a relationship. I see us learning how to understand each other as the people we are now, not just the teenagers we used to be."

Aisha nodded.

"And what about your family? Your father and my mother have a complicated history."

"I won't pretend it doesn't matter. But their past doesn't have to determine our future."

She looked thoughtful.

"I don't want us to become responsible for fixing everything our parents did wrong."

"We won't. We can support them without carrying every burden ourselves."

His answer reassured her.

Aisha explained that she wanted to continue developing her career and eventually lead her own creative agency.

Daniel listened carefully, asking questions and encouraging her to describe her plans.

When she finished, he smiled.

"I think you should do it."

"You don't think it will take too much time away from our relationship?"

"I want a relationship with someone who has dreams of her own. I'll support you, and I expect you to support mine too."

Aisha felt a warmth spread through her chest.

For years, she had feared that love would require her to sacrifice parts of herself. Daniel was showing her that a healthy relationship could make room for both people to grow.

"What about you?" she asked. "What do you want your future to look like?"

He told her about his plans to expand his business and build a team he could trust.

They discussed practical things: time, work, family and how they would handle disagreements.

Nothing about the conversation was dramatic, but it felt important.

When they left the café, Aisha slipped her hand into his.

"I think we're doing this properly."

Daniel smiled.

"Slowly, honestly and with plenty of arguments?"

"Especially the arguments."

He laughed.

Then he grew serious.

"I love you, Aisha. And I want to keep choosing you, even when life becomes ordinary."

She smiled at him.

"I love you too."

They walked towards the car together, talking about where to go for their next date.

For once, the future didn't feel like a threat waiting to happen.

It felt like a road they could explore together, one decision at a time.
