Chapter 1 - Doomsday

'This world is terrible.'

This was the only thought that passed through Ciel Novasky's mind these days.

'This world is truly terrible.'

He was currently hiding on the rooftop of a broken down, one story house located near a quiet and neglected street.

The sky was deep orange in colour, with clouds covering the sun which was directly above head.

This was just another normal day on the planet of Prisma.

He watched from a distance as a hooded man was attempting to kidnap a young looking girl.

'What is she doing on an abandoned street like this? She should have seen this coming…' Ciel thought to himself.

Of course, the kidnapper was doing it for money. The only things that people valued in this world, power and money.

The parents of the young girl would undoubtedly pay ransom to get her back, as she seemed to be an important noble's daughter.

The man gagged and blindfolded the young girl, before putting her in a large, human sized sack and slowly running off.

After an hour of trying to lose any potential followers, the man entered a secluded alley and knocked on the door of a dilapidated building.

This was the state of Prisma these days. Completely lawless and ruinous.

After a few seconds, the creaky door of the dilapidated building opened, and the hooded man entered inside along with the young girl.

"Boss, I finally got a good one! She's gonna be worth a fortune!" The hooded man said with excitement.

The man's boss was a notorious criminal in these areas, known as Jack.

Jack chuckled softly and said: "Good work, Ralph. You really made sure that no one followed you, right?"

"Don't worry about that. I'm the stealthiest person in our whole gang, boss." Ralph answered earnestly.

What he didn't know was that he was in fact being followed by someone stealthier than him.

At that moment, there was another knock on the door.

"Who the hell is it at this time?" Ralph grumbled under his breath.

No one in the gang was meant to be out at this time. That and the fact that this base of theirs was a total secret made Ralph feel wary on the inside.

Ralph slowly opened the door, and saw an unknown young man standing there.

He seemed to be around 17, with a good looking face and physique, standing at 5'11". His long black hair was smooth and reached his shoulders, and had lustrous midnight blue eyes.

"Are you lost, kid? Do you know-" Before Ralph could finish speaking, his head was falling to the ground.

"Attack! Attack! We're under attack!" A gang member who witnessed the scene nearby shouted to his colleagues.

As a slightly experienced gang, everyone was quick to react.

The nearby gang members all rushed forward, picking up metal pipes as rudimentary weapons.

Ciel lifted his katana slightly, showing them the blade that would soon be taking their lives.

'These people are all trash, there's no problem killing them. This world needs to be changed.' Ciel thought as heads started falling.

Ciel wielded his katana with great precision, easily striking all the gang members down.

He had been training diligently with a katana since he was 6 years old and was currently 17.

He had 11 years of experience as a swordsman, and killing was nothing new to him.

After only 30 seconds, the only one left standing was the boss, Jack.

"Those blue eyes... I know you! You're the Midnight Terror!" Jack screamed in fear with the sudden realization

The Midnight Terror was a crazy, mysterious young man that killed any criminal he found for money.

He was a bounty hunter that made a living by killing criminals.

All the criminals in this area had heard of these rumors.

Jack fell back in fright as he pleaded for mercy.

"Do you want money? I have tons of money! Name any amount, and I'll give it to you no matter what!"

But Ciel wasn't one to give mercy. If it could even slightly improve the world, he would kill every single criminal he saw.

This was his choice, and way of living.

'These people can only think of money, even before death. They never change huh.' Ciel thought before saying with a cold smile:

"Yes, I do love money."

"Then-" Jack was cut off before he could continue.

"But that doesn't mean I'll let you live. Your head will fall off, and I'll be taking your money with me regardless of what you do." Ciel said as he ruthlessly cut off Jack's head

Jack was too shocked and in fright to try fighting back.

'I guess I also never change.' Ciel thought to himself.

Ciel Novasky was a person who disliked the criminals who continued to ruin this world.

He didn't hate them, nor did he care about their twisted ideals. He just didn't want Prisma to fall into a deeper hole.

The fall of Prisma had started over a century ago, due to the fact that a new position of Emperor was announced by a tyrannical king.

This was a position that made the place of the 8 Kings meaningless.

The tyrannical king fought to defeat the 7 other kings, but was defeated in the end.

Since then, there was never a day of peace on Prisma. Countless wars were fought between the kings, and the bloodshed never stopped.

A new era of violence was born.

Prisma went from a beautiful and lively planet to a frenzied warzone that you could only find in hell.

All of this just for a meaningless title that no one had even achieved yet. It was just a possibility.

Ciel had always thought that there must have been a reason why the tyrannical king had made this title.

However, after growing up, he knew that the only thing the 8 Kings cared about was power and money.

It didn't matter how much bloodshed would be needed to achieve that.

'I'll kill these damn kings. This world probably can't be saved at this point, even if they die though.'

'But the only possible way is by killing the kings. That's the only starting point.' Ciel thought

He would kill any criminal he found without hesitation. The kings were no better than criminals to Ciel.

Ciel sheathed his katana, and took the money he found hidden under a floor board before heading to the door to leave.

'Oh wait… I almost forgot.'

Ciel went back and freed the young girl that had been kidnapped. She was unconscious, but in good condition.

He left her leaning against the wall, and left the dilapidated building.

He had done something similar too many times to count. It would just be bothersome if he took her with him.

There was a slight drizzle outside, and the sky was a shade of orange as usual.

After walking and making a few stops on the way, he soon reached his own house. It was an old and abandoned house.

It was located in the middle of an obscure junkyard. This was a place that no one would come to, and the house itself was inconspicuous.

If anyone came here, they wouldn't take a second glance towards the house, making him choose this place to live.

He knocked on the door in a strange pattern and waited for a moment.

Soon after, the door opened and he saw a familiar young girl inside.

She had a pretty face, stood at 5'1", with long black hair and midnight blue eyes.

She was Ciel's younger sister, Cally. The only person he truly cared for in this forsaken world.

"You're back huh, Mr. Midnight Terror." Cally said with a playful smirk.

"Stop calling me that. Anyway, do you remember that it's your birthday today? I've got you some cake." Ciel said, holding up a cake box.

He had bought a medium sized chocolate cake with the money he earned earlier.

Though, it was harder to find someone that was selling cake instead of earning money.

"Aww… how kind of you. I wonder where the money came from." Cally said while smiling.

"It doesn't matter, it's not like those guys were going to do anything good with the money." Ciel replied with a smile of his own.

Cally sighed and said: "Thanks for the cake, brother."

Ciel entered his abandoned house, and went to the dining table with the cake.

Even though the house looked bad from the outside, it was quite cozy on the inside.

Ciel and his sister, Cally, were also the only ones living here.

Their parents were killed a few years ago. The exact way they died was simple. Assasination.

There were many people who would want to kill one of the 8 Kings after all.

Yes, Ciel was a real prince. At least until his parents died, and he had to escape from all kinds of assassins while protecting his little sister.

His long hours spent training in swordsmanship was the only reason that the siblings managed to survive until now.

'Father was wrong. People will never change. Greed is the only value people have in this world.' Ciel thought as he watched his sister happily eat her birthday cake.

His father had tried to change the world with peace, but was instead killed and robbed of everything he had.

Ciel didn't think anything that his father did would work, as he had seen first hand at how terrible this world was, even as a child.

He tried to explain that to his father but to no avail. The king was too naive, resulting in his family being destroyed by the most 'loyal' of his servants.

They were just waiting for a chance to stab him in the back, and gain his riches.

'I'll fix this world in my own way. Even if I won't be able to see the end result, I'll make sure there will be a new beginning.'

Ciel didn't care for the revenge of his father. He just wanted to take care of his little sister.

Recently, he knew that Cally was starting to feel depressed. She hated the world as well, and was no stranger to its cruelty.

Ciel decided that he would definitely make this world a better place, one way or another for her.

He wasn't a warrior for justice, nor did he have a childish dream of being a hero. He just wanted his last remaining family member to be happy and feel safe.

If it required him to kill people, he wouldn't hesitate.

"Why are you making such a gloomy face? It's my birthday, remember?" Cally brought Ciel out of his stupor.

'Right…' Ciel smiled and took a piece of cake.

"I know, I remember. So, what do you want to be when you grow up? You're already 14, you need to decide soon." Ciel asked.

Deep inside, he already knew that there weren't many good choices, and the ones that were possible were mostly bad.

"Hmm… I wanna be a regular store owner. Nothing special, just a comfortable life in peace."

"Thats probably not possible though. Peace is quite possibly the hardest goal one can achieve." She said in a melancholic tone

'I already know that, but don't worry, Cally. I'll make sure that you will be happy, no matter what.' Ciel thought inwardly

After dinner, they were both ready to go to bed in their own rooms. No one else was there to celebrate Cally's birthday, but to them, being in each other's company was their only reason for living.

"Goodnight Cally. Your life is only just starting, so you should try finding some friends from now on." Ciel tried to cheer her up.

"There's no point. You know people better than me, Ciel." She replied with a sad expression.

He couldn't disagree. In fact, he would have kept anyone away, even if they were friends.

He still felt very bad for Cally since she seemed to be feeling more and more lonely these days.

'This world is terrible. A 14 year old girl shouldn't have to worry about making friends.' Ciel thought with slight anger.

This was the state of Prisma for all children these days. The crime rate was so high, that being a regular civilian was weirder than being a criminal.

Ciel went to his bed and fell asleep, expecting a normal night.

But he was wrong.

.

Ciel woke up in the middle of the night due to the ground slightly trembling.

It was an earthquake. They weren't too uncommon, so he didn't think much of it.

It started mild, but the intensity kept increasing with no sign of stopping.

Eventually, Ciel noticed something was wrong.

'What the hell is going on?' Ciel thought as he rushed into Cally's room.

"Cally! Are you alright?" Ciel shouted worriedly.

"Yeah I'm fine. Do you know what's going on?" She asked while getting out of bed.

Ciel shook his head and they both went outside the house. They didn't want to be under the abandoned house in case it collapsed.

Outside, nothing seemed to be wrong, except for the trembling land.

'Is it just a regular earthquake? No… it feels off…' Ciel thought, his sense of danger increasing.

A few moments later, a few small cracks started appearing all over the ground.

This wasn't happening in just this area or city. It was the entire planet.

Soon, bright red flames started emerging from the cracks in the ground that burnt anything and everything in their way.

Ciel felt as if he was being cooked alive.

The flames soon surrounded the siblings, making it near impossible to escape without being burnt to a crisp.

Ciel took the trembling Cally in an embrace, but there was nothing he could do.

Their whole life was ending just like that.

'What the fuck… I won't even be able to make the first step like this… not like it matters anymore.' Ciel thought with a slight feeling of madness.

Ciel didn't care to avenge his father.

He just wanted his sister to have a great life. Why was just this one simple task so difficult?

'How meaningless.' He thought.

The ground started trembling with an even greater intensity, and the flames started to burn Ciel's skin.

He kept embracing Cally, even though he knew there was no hope.

His vision was starting to go blurry and his thoughts were all jumbled.

Still, he didn't give up. He resisted the flames through sheer willpower.

At some point in time, Cally suddenly pushed Ciel away with all her strength, and he flew back a few metres.

The flames were almost in contact with his back, but he didn't feel any pain from them. He was too shocked.

"What are you doing-"

Bang! A meteor fell from the sky and crashed into the land that he was standing on a few moments ago.

There was a shockwave, and the flames around him faded slightly.

"What…what just happened…Cally? Cally! Why? Why? Why did you do that? Why?" Ciel screamed as his sister was killed in front of his eyes.

He watched as her body started disintegrating into ashes under the meteorite in utter disbelief.

He only wanted to protect her, but in the end, he was the one that was protected.

All his tears evaporated before even forming.

He stood in place, feeling despair and agony. There were meteors falling from the sky all around him.

Shockwave after shockwave, the entire land was soon nearly destroyed in its entirety.

After what felt like an eternity, the trembling land faded and the flames decreased in heat.

'Am I alive? Why am I still alive? What the hell just happened?'

His skin was falling apart, burnt to a crisp, yet he was still standing.

The landscape around him was a barren wasteland.

The space around him seemed to have warped, making it feel like time had stopped.

He looked up at the sky.

The stars seemed to be shining brighter and brighter. He slowly started losing his consciousness.

The last thing he remembered was a blurry female figure in front of him. There was a faint attractive force he could feel towards her.
