Sonya wavered, her breath hitching as she shrank back from the supernatural fire in my gaze. Behind her, Caspian opened his mouth to talk, but I shot him a glare so lethal it shut him up before he could start.
"Step closer to your father," I commanded them quietly.
They obliged, their heavy iron chains rattling obscenely against the floor as they finally approached the bed.
Despite his fading vision, a weak, gravelly chuckle escaped my father's lips as he watched us. "I see you're still… whipping your younger siblings back into shape."
At first, I was surprised by the sudden spark of life in his rough voice. But looking down at him, I let out a soft breath and flashed him an easy, reassuring smile.
"Always," I told him, squeezing his hand. "I've got it covered, Dad."
My father's cloudy eyes shifted from me, landing heavily on the two shackled figures at the foot of his bed. He took a shallow, rattling breath.
