The moment I stepped into my room, the hardest liquor I could find buzzing in my gut, I still knew I was not alone even before I turned on the lights.
It wasn't like I did not have night vision or couldn't sense the aura of my brothers.
"Fragments," his voice corrected in the dark.
"Fragments!" I whispered back as my brothers surrounded me.
"You look like you have been through hell," Kaleb remarked, his arms folded, his eyes narrowing in the dim light.
"What's it to you?" I spat, the words cutting harder than I intended.
The alcohol was hitting faster than it should have. My ugliness was showing. I dug into my pockets, looking for some chocolate. I found the last piece, stripped the foil with trembling fingers, and popped it into my mouth, my eyes unable to meet my brothers'.
"What are you doing in my room?" I asked past the sweet in my mouth.
It was no longer sweet. It was bitter. Again.
