Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Breeding Base

"Awoooo!!!"

"Awoooo!!!"

At this moment, the five giant wolves stared at Fang Yu with drool hanging from their mouths, their pupils gleaming.

"What do you mean by that?"

Under the gaze of the Snow Wolves, Fang Yu felt extremely uneasy.

Even without thinking, he knew the wolves only wanted to eat they were hungry, not targeting him.

But this situation both reassured him and made him nervous.

Reassured because their target was the meat. Nervous because he had a feeling the Snow Wolves might also want to sample him while they were at it.

Sure enough…

Applying for this job had probably been a little rash.

"Where's the Wolf King?"

Trying his best to appear calm, Fang Yu looked farther into the distance, searching for his biggest backer.

"Roooar!!!"

After the five Snow Wolves arrived, they obediently stood in a row, not daring to move recklessly. It wasn't because they were afraid of scaring Fang Yu, nor out of politeness, it was because their leader hadn't arrived yet.

With a more intimidating roar, the pack parted to make way. Walking forward was a much larger Snow Wolf, over two meters long and at least 1.7 to 1.8 meters tall.

"Roooar!!!"

The Snow Wolf King stepped out slowly, its gaze locking onto Fang Yu.

The other Snow Wolves looked at the Wolf King with fear and respect.

Snow Wolves were pack-type magical beasts. The Wolf King possessed supreme authority.

Some Wolf Kings could even develop a deterrence-type demon ability that created an overwhelming pressure to command the pack.

Under that aura of dominance, the Snow Wolves were exceptionally obedient, not daring to act out of line, maintaining strict order.

Clearly, the reason an intern caretaker like Fang Yu could safely feed this pack was because of the Wolf King's deterrence.

This Snow Wolf King was at the peak of the Servant-level. It was the tamed beast of a mage within the breeding base, responsible for assisting in managing the pack.

Step by step, the Wolf King approached indifferently until it stood beside Fang Yu.

Fang Yu's heart tightened. He stared at the majestic giant wolf before him. The pressure this Wolf King gave off was on an entirely different level compared to the five ordinary Snow Wolves.

With just a glance, the deterrence in its eyes made Fang Yu's heart pound wildly.

The Wolf King was also observing him. It didn't begin eating immediately. Cold air swirled around its body as it continued moving closer.

Then it brushed past Fang Yu, its head lightly bumping against him.

By convention, the Wolf King would leave its scent on intern caretakers. By marking them with its unique scent, the Snow Wolves would behave more obediently during feeding.

When Fang Yu felt the icy chill at his side, he understood he had been marked. So this was how it left its scent?

Not bad. Much more civilized than marking with urine.

As Fang Yu was inwardly commenting, suddenly the ice sphere in his spiritual world trembled.

The Wolf King had unconsciously released cold air, and through contact with Fang Yu, that flowing chill dispersed into Ice Element energy and seeped into the Ice Orb within his spiritual world.

"What?"

Fang Yu froze for a moment. He had been thinking that as his cultivation improved, the Ice Orb, whose effect was comparable to a Nebula Magic Tool would gradually become less useful. He had been wondering how to enhance it.

And it turned out to be this simple?

Moreover, it was the cold aura emitted by the Wolf King. After absorbing the chill, the Ice Orb's effect strengthened.

The moment he sensed the change, Fang Yu's heart surged with excitement.

"Although the enhancement from the Wolf King's residual cold aura is negligible, I've found the method."

"Following this logic, as long as I continue absorbing the Wolf King's cold aura and convert it into Ice Element energy, it should be possible to improve it!"

Of course, knowing this didn't mean Fang Yu would recklessly use the ability.

Setting aside how much of the Wolf King's cold aura would be consumed, if the Wolf King noticed him absorbing it, that would definitely cause serious trouble.

Fang Yu wore a faint smile. When he came back to his senses, he saw the Wolf King staring at him with a puzzled expression.

"Roooar!"

The Wolf King let out a low growl and frowned.

Fang Yu understood. Seeing him grinning foolishly, the Wolf King probably suspected he had something wrong with his head.

Suspect all it wanted. Fang Yu wasn't bothered.

The Wolf King would never understand his joy. The happiness of man and wolf was not shared.

Having just benefited from it, Fang Yu now found the Wolf King much more pleasing to the eye.

Unaware that its cold aura had already been siphoned away, the Wolf King confirmed that Fang Yu hadn't been frightened into a problem and then turned to devour the meat in large bites.

Only after it had eaten and drunk its fill did the ordinary Snow Wolves dare to gather around.

Perhaps because the Wolf King had left its scent on him, once it stepped away, the ordinary Snow Wolves were clearly less aggressive toward Fang Yu than before.

Just as the other interns had said, they were very obedient.

This obedience made the subsequent feeding process, as well as Fang Yu's observation of the ice orb in his spiritual world, go much more smoothly.

"Useless."

After distributing food to each Snow Wolf, Fang Yu felt disappointed.

Just now, while the ordinary Snow Wolves' cold aura dispersed around him, the ice sphere in his spiritual world showed no reaction.

In other words, he could only strengthen the ice sphere using the Wolf King's cold aura.

What was so special about the Wolf King?

Fang Yu was clearly puzzled.

He continued feeding them…

Fang Yu threw himself fully into the task. Soon enough, the work was finished. However, what disappointed him was that during the process of feeding the Snow Wolves, he was unable to absorb any Ice Element energy from them.

If it didn't work, then so be it. Fang Yu wasn't greedy. At the very least, discovering the function of the ice orb this time was already a huge gain.

As long as he figured out what was unique about the Snow Wolf King, the answer would reveal itself.

After finishing the feeding work for the Snow Wolf pack, Fang Yu moved on to other assignments.

Within the breeding base, he saw Sky Eagles sweeping across the sky on patrol.

The Sky Eagles were majestic. Their feathers were pure white like snow, and the feathers on their crests were even silver, hanging boldly down their backs, displaying a perfect streamlined form.

They flew in neat formation across the sky before eventually descending near a lakeside area.

Sky Eagles, Six-Star tamed beasts. He wondered if they could be ridden.

Fang Yu truly wanted to give it a try.

However, reason prevailed, and he chose to continue working.

Interns had it rough. The most exhausting and tedious tasks all fell to them, and none of it required much technical skill.

There was no helping it. After all, they were still in the learning phase.

If Fang Yu and the others were assigned high-difficulty tasks such as training tamed beasts, they would need the ability to handle it first.

Like the wolf pack earlier, without a Wolf King that possessed a deterrence-type ability, managing and training them would be extremely difficult.

Training the Snow Wolves properly and preparing them to become suitable contracted beasts for mages was the responsibility of the official caretakers and trainers.

Interns like Fang Yu could only handle the more basic tasks.

Of course, aside from routine work, the official caretakers would periodically lead interns like Fang Yu in other duties, allowing them to observe different kinds of tamed beasts.

"There's still one month left in the internship. I should focus on learning properly first."

The profession of a tamed beast caretaker was a stepping stone he had prepared for himself, a foundation for hunting magical beasts in the future.

Although he had gained a golden finger that allowed him to rapidly increase his cultivation, Fang Yu had given it some thought. When facing magical beasts, under their violent and savage aura, it was easy for one's mind to be affected, making it difficult to fight freely. For now, it was better to proceed cautiously.

Next, Fang Yu decided he would treat his job as a tamed beast caretaker seriously, use this opportunity to understand magical beasts more thoroughly, and then make further plans.
