In the middle of the night, I stirred awake from a deep sleep. I pushed myself up slowly and glanced at Aldus. He was still fast asleep, his breathing soft and steady.
Not wanting to wake him, I quietly slipped out of the bed, put on my slippers, and headed toward the door to get a glass of cold water.
But the moment I took a step, a cold and chilling breeze swept into our room. I turned sharply toward the veranda—and my brows furrowed deeply when I saw it wide open.
I clearly remembered closing the glass door before we went to bed.
So why was it open now?
With hesitant steps, I moved toward it to close it again. The closer I got, the heavier the air felt. The eerie cold wind brushing against my skin sent a sharp shiver down my spine.
Just as I reached out to close the door, my hand froze midair.
A voice whispered in my ear.
"Livia…"
Soft, distant—then growing louder.
"Livia…"
