Chapter 91 - Chapter 91: The events at Urtum III

Gates — each wall had multiple gates, the third sector's wall had seven with one in the middle aligning with the main path(central path) and was the largest.

Two towards the east with one of those being the relay camp's gate and the other being between it and the second gate.

And the other four gates were to the west, the second sector's wall had six, and that of the capital had four gates.

***

Umurt had one of those gates situated a kilometre west from its position, it didn't take long before Thomas and his men crossed it on horseback.

[Whoosh] The wind blew gently on the third sector of the empire.

"It's eyes are on us." Vera said. "Should I line you up for the shot?" She asked.

"One shot would do nothing, we have to wait for corporal Thomas's command.

What is he thinking" Hughes said to the surprise of Vera.

"Is that what he told you?

Where is he now?" she asked.

Hughes had a terrified expression, too terrified to speak moulded by the scene before his eyes; the goat had begun its charge.

He gulped.

Both of them were now stuck in this instance, looking at a being whose sole purpose seemed to be felling the wall — its kind may have failed, but not once had they ever stopped.

Nothing could stop it now.

As it pawed the ground their faces only grew more terrified, and naturally it grew to its peak the moment it began running.

Nearly at the last moments before it collided with the wall Hughes's eyes caught on yo something in the distance to his right; three horses gallantly galloping in the plains of the fourth sector.

"Look there is Thom-" Hughes was interrupted by Vera's scream.

"GET DOWN" Her voice that was dulled to his ears finally reached him, she grasped his head with her palms and attempted forcing him down.

[Baam!] The impact reverberated through the wall as it cracked even more, shaking even more than the previous one.

They both squirmed, finding it hard to move against the hard shakes, and when they were finally on the verge of recovering-

[Baam!] Another loud noise, another shake nearly as fearsome as the last, that part of the wall was on the verge of splitting open as the cracks were now well defined.

"Another one how?!" Vera thought as she was unable to move, she grit her teeth and against the vibrations that were hard to go against she rested her upper body on the edge of the wall and looked below.

The sight was frightening — the goat was standing on its hind le⁶gs in preparations of nodding the wall again, and it did.

[Baam!] From the recoil it sprung back up to hit again.

The wall wasn't going to take one more hit, Vera could tell. "It's going to fall."

The goat was about to dive in for another nod, that it was; yet it didn't.

Its eyes turned to something different, the horses that Thomas and two other brave soldiers that were charging at it.

"It's a miracle the wall is still standing, it seems to be focused on us now." Thomas's eyes glinted. "Now the question is will it chase us."

He got his answer nearly immediately as the goat dropped to all fours almost immediately running at them.

Thomas changed the direction of his horse, and the others followed, they were now running away from the wall diagonally with the goat chasing them.

The soldier positioned at the left of the formation looked behind, the lead they had on the goat was becoming fictious.

"It's catching up!" The soldier screamed.

Thomas took a glimpse behind, and confirmed it. "Don't look back, we'll soon be there!"

"Are you looking at me Hughes." Thomas's eyes trembled a bit, his heart beating; hands shaking yet he led.

Hughes set his cannon properly, he was now stationed three cannons away, he looked to his right to were he stood earlier.

The cracks that spread from the middle even to where he was, though his were surface level.

[A whistling sound.] A bird heeded Vera's call as it landed on her shoulder.

Hughes looked at her as she wrote down something but soon after locked his eyes at Thomas.

"What's the signal going to be, leader." He put binoculars to his eyes.

The goat gained on them, quicker than they had anticipated, the soldier to the right took a short peek behind as it caught up to them.

Moments later he looked behind again only to see its leg above his head.

"Aggh!!!-" His scream stopped abruptly by a mushy sound, but loud enough for the other two to notice.

Thomas ignored his own words and looked behind to see his comrade crushed beneath the goat's feet, blood splattering, limbs mangled with the horse he rode not surviving either.

His eyes shook, but he pulled himself back into the moment as he stopped his horse signalling the other soldier to stop as well.

The goat passed them by unable to turn around immediately.

"We should be far enough now…Hughes, are you looking at me?" Thomas thought as he stared at the wall now far away.

[Shake!] The ground rumbled at the feet of the goat as it was back at chasing them.

Thomas and the other soldier rode side by side moving at the fastest they could buy it was still catching up.

Thomas signalled the other soldier with his arms and he began spreading out, then he grabbed a vase from his waist then uncapped it.

The goat caught up again now in-between them both, if it continued like this they were surely going to perish.

With his life on the line, and potentially that of everyone in the empire the soldier attacked it with his spear.

"Agggh!!!" he screamed as he staked it to its under side, just for his fierce expression to change to that of hopelessness for indeed all hope he had was lost.

The spear could only get past its hide, not even scratching the surface of its skin as it rebounded.

The goat locked eyes with him and he began panicking.

Driven by fear, he reared up his horse and attempted stopping his horse just to be greeted by the hind legs of the goat kicking him.

[Splat!] He was crushed on impact, Thomas was now alone.
