Chapter 37 - CHAPTER 36 — THE ARENA DESCENDS

Mist clung to everything, thick and suffocating, obscuring vision. Platforms wobbled and spun unpredictably, some hovering over molten lava, others over pools of stagnant black water. The shadow forest had bled into the swamp, while the storm canyon loomed above, lightning crackling across the merged sky.

The remaining students Lyra, Mira, Kael, Joran, Elara, Tarin, Selina, and a few others moved cautiously, fully aware that one misstep could mean death.

Lyra Nocturne

Lyra crouched low on a thick root arching across the misty swamp, chains coiled around her arms like serpents ready to strike. Shadow wolves stalked through the fog, their glowing red eyes tracking every movement.

One lunged, teeth bared. Lyra's chains snapped forward, wrapping around its legs and yanking it violently to the ground. It let out a choking growl as shadows consumed it, dissolving the wolf into black mist.

Her heart raced. Every breath she drew was visible in the cold mist. She spotted a root moving unnaturally fast, attempting to strike Elara from behind. Without hesitation, Lyra swung, slicing the root in two before it could wrap around Elara's ankle.

We can't afford to hesitate. Every second counts…

Mira Veylin

Mira stood on a rotating ice platform, the wind whipping her robes into a frenzy. Lava droplets hissed as they hit the ice, melting the edges and making the surface dangerously slick. Ice serpents lunged at her from multiple directions, each faster and more cunning than before.

She twirled midair, releasing a spiral of wind that deflected molten rocks and pushed the serpents back. One serpent lunged from the molten edge; Mira's eyes widened as the ice beneath her cracked. She leapt to a safer platform, sending a tornado to knock the serpent into the black water below.

Every spell, every gust, has to be precise… one misstep, and it's over.

Kael Veythorn

Kael's shadow labyrinth had grown chaotic. Tentacle-like shadows lashed from every direction. Phantom wolves sprang from the mist, jaws snapping.

He extended his shadow blades, slicing through the tentacles with perfect timing. He sensed danger before it appeared a lightning bolt arcing from Tarin's storm zone toward a weak platform. Kael twisted midair, intercepting the bolt with a shadow barrier, saving himself and Lyra from a lethal strike.

The arena is testing our limits… we have to adapt or die.

Tarin Valcrest

Tarin stood atop a floating stone platform, lightning coiling around his arms. Shadow serpents and molten salamanders lunged simultaneously, creating a deadly pattern he had to calculate instantly.

He fired a lightning bolt at a lunging salamander, vaporizing it. A shadow serpent lunged from below, coiling around his legs. He yanked it upward with a bolt of electric energy, sending it crashing into a rotating platform.

One wrong move… death. But precision… precision keeps us alive.

Selina Duskwood

Selina's mirror illusions had multiplied violently. Each reflection moved independently, forming ghostly duplicates of herself to mislead beasts. Shadow spiders skittered across the mirrored surfaces, some leaping from broken platforms into the mist.

She created a reflective barrier, deflecting a sudden lightning bolt from Tarin. The barrier shattered partially, shards flying dangerously close to Kael and Lyra. She pivoted, sending her illusions forward to distract incoming spiders while she stabilized the barrier.

Every reflection, every movement… I can't fail now.

Joran Flint

Joran's lava beasts were growing aggressive, learning patterns from previous attacks. One massive salamander lunged at Mira, claws scorching a platform she had just stabilized. Joran leapt, fire crackling around him, creating a barrier to shield her.

Another salamander rose from a fissure behind him. Joran spun, casting a wave of fire downward. Molten rock erupted, sending the beast crashing into the misty swamp, leaving a trail of smoke and sizzling debris.

We have to survive… no hesitation, no mistakes..

Fifth Fatality - Corvin Drell

Corvin, a novice shadow mage, attempted to cross a collapsing platform connecting the swamp and shadow forest. A branch from Lyra's forest snapped violently, dislodging part of the platform. Corvin froze, claws of shadow wolves lunging toward him from both sides.

He tried to extend his shadow shield, but a lightning strike from Tarin split the platform beneath him. Corvin fell into a tangle of shadow wolves and black water. His scream echoed, then abruptly cut off as the mist swallowed him.

The remaining students froze, hearts hammering, realizing that even skill and timing weren't enough death could strike unpredictably.
