Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Classmates

Since it was still early, there were only a few scattered people in the classroom. One look at their clothes and you could tell they were children from wealthy families.

"Oh, a new face!" A boy ran over and reached out his hand with a smile.

"Hello, my name is Balu."

"My name is Jin Bao, hello. I wonder where I can sit?" Jin Bao said as he looked at the seats in the classroom.

"Ha! Aren't they all empty seats! Except for those few over there that are taken, you can sit anywhere else." Balu pointed to several seats by the window.

"Do you mind sitting with me?" He suddenly looked at Jin Bao and gave a shy smile.

Jin Bao found it a bit strange, but still nodded.

"Thanks!" Balu said as he pulled Jin Bao's hand to a back row, and the two sat down.

Jin Bao glanced at the other children; they still showed no intention of coming over to talk to them.

"By the way, I haven't asked you yet, what is your Spirit?" Balu suddenly asked.

Jin Bao replied, "My Spirit is Money, a support-type Spirit." He said as he revealed his Spirit.

"A support-type Spirit? That's great, me too!" Balu said as he summoned his Spirit.

A hairpin, a pink butterfly hairpin.

Jin Bao finally understood why he was being ostracized; this hairpin was completely feminine, and he was a boy!

However, when the hairpin appeared on his head, he really did look a bit feminine, the cute kind.

"Uh, not bad! What is your Innate Spirit Power?" Jin Bao asked, looking at the expectant Balu.

"My Innate Spirit Power is only Level 5, but my parents are very happy. I'll become at least a Spirit Elder in the future. The Lord Spirit Master who awakened my Spirit said that support system Spirits are slower to cultivate and more difficult in the future. I think if I become a Spirit Elder, some Spirit Master teams will want me!"

Speaking of this, he couldn't help but lower his head again.

At this moment, a question occurred to Jin Bao. "For your Spirit to work, does it have to land on someone else?"

Balu nodded. "Yeah, but after I obtain my First Spirit Ring, my Spirit will be able to split into many individuals to support many people. However, they all laughed at me before and weren't willing to let me try out my Spirit's effect. Perhaps after I get my First Spirit Ring, the teacher will let me try it."

A pink hairpin like that—most normal boys would indeed be unwilling to let it land on their heads. However, that's just the mindset of children; once they truly grow up, they'll know that only strength matters.

Having long understood this, Jin Bao naturally didn't ostracize Balu, and the two soon started chatting about the others in the class.

Although Balu didn't have any friends in the class before, he knew quite a lot. For example, who those seats that couldn't be taken belonged to and what their backgrounds were.

How many classes there were in a day, and which ones could be skipped.

Who the strongest person in the class was, and who the most beautiful girl was.

Which cafeteria window had the best food, which one was the most nutritious, which one had the auntie whose hands shook particularly badly, and so on.

In short, by the time class officially started, Jin Bao had already learned everything he wanted to know.

Class time arrived, and a female teacher dressed in formal attire walked in.

After glancing at all the students, she gave a light cough. "Hello, students. We have two new classmates joining us today. Please have them introduce themselves first!"

Just as Jin Bao was about to stand up, he saw a girl sitting in the first row by the door stand up.

She walked to the podium and looked at the others in the class. "My name is Mei Lele. My Spirit is the Peach Blossom Fan. My Innate Spirit Power is Level 7, and I plan to become an Agility Attack System Soul Master."

After speaking, she bowed to everyone and returned to her seat.

Jin Bao stood up and walked to the podium. "Hello everyone, my name is Jin Bao; you can call me Yuan Bao. My family runs the Jin Family Trading House in the city. My Spirit is Money, my Innate Spirit Power is Level 8, and I plan to become a Support-type Soul Master."

After finishing, he bowed just like Mei Lele and walked back to his seat.

The teacher tapped the blackboard. "The two students have finished their introductions. Now, let's begin the lesson. We will continue discussing knowledge about Spirit Beasts..."

In fact, the curriculum of a Junior Spirit Master Academy consists mostly of cultural courses, especially for these first-year students who haven't obtained their First Spirit Ring yet; there are no practical combat classes.

However, as a Spirit Master, no matter which path one takes, a good physique is necessary, so there are still physical education classes. But it was impossible for a situation to arise where the PE teacher was sick and the history teacher came to take over the class.

Cultural courses were mainly concentrated in the morning, and the afternoon was for cultivation practice, but the day's classes ended as early as 3:00 PM. At noon, if you didn't spend extra Money, you could only eat the standard meals included in the tuition on the first floor of the cafeteria.

Most of the children from relatively ordinary families ate here; students from the noble classes like them went directly to the second floor.

Even Balu, what he spoke of earlier were the various windows on the second floor.

'It seems that in the absence of the influence of strength, class distinctions are very obvious,' Jin Bao thought as he sat in a side seat, eating while watching the students crowded together below.

'Without strength, our family will eventually fall to this level, or even worse.'

Unknowingly, Jin Bao finished the food he had bought.

"I feel like I'm not full yet!" Jin Bao rubbed his stomach and glanced at the food in front of him. Was it because he was in a good mood after starting school? He hadn't eaten this much yesterday.

"No need to dwell on it. Because Spirit Masters cultivating spirit power has a stimulating effect on physical growth, it's normal to be able to eat a bit more. As long as you don't overeat constantly, it's not bad for your body," Balu's voice reached Jin Bao's ears.

Jin Bao looked at him; the food in front of him was also quite a lot.

After thinking about it, Jin Bao went to buy some more food and only felt full after finishing it all. He estimated that it had doubled compared to yesterday.

In the afternoon, these noble students had dedicated cultivation rooms, while the students from ordinary classes could only cultivate in the open spaces of the academy.

In this cultivation room, there were special incenses that could calm the mind and help one concentrate, thereby increasing the effectiveness of spirit power cultivation. Moreover, the food on the second floor would have some medicinal herbs added to it that aided in physical growth and spirit power increase, which was incomparable to the first floor.

"If one isn't truly exceptionally talented, the gap in resources really pulls people apart from the very beginning!" Jin Bao lamented.

"That's true. For those civilian Spirit Masters and Work-study students, the school teachers will only tell them the main points of meditation cultivation without watching over or guiding their spirit power cultivation. Those who can overcome the barrier between civilians and nobles through their own efforts are only a few."
