"Close your eyes."
The Chief instructed Nyssa and she did so. This was her second day of magic training and it was about heightening her senses.
It made her remember a time she mistakenly locked herself in a shelf.
She had shrieked and shrieked for help, but it seemed no one heard her. When she finally got silent, just closing her eyes, she heard a faint crack at a corner. It was very little, almost a negligible sound, but she picked it up.
When she grazed her fingers over there, she hit it with full force and the shelf broke.
"You can hear the surroundings, can't you?"
Nyssa nodded slowly, as she sat on her legs with them folded on the ground.
"Now, try to separate yourself from it. Focus on a particular sound."
Nyssa's eyes squeezed shut as she tried to focus on a particular bird chirp but her shoulder was struck lightly with a rod from the Chief.
Her eyes snapped open and she turned over to him.
"You're doing it wrongly."
Nyssa gulped then faced forward again.
