On the sea, a Pirate Crew was fleeing in a panic.
"Captain, we can't escape. What should we do? Surrender?" The crew members were all preparing to take off their pants.
"I want to, but they won't accept!"
Raider, the Captain of the Longuette Bread Pirates, cursed loudly, "Run towards the Marines' territory! We should be safe there!"
"The Marine won't let us off either!" Some crew members didn't understand.
"Is it better to be locked up in Impel Down by the Marine, or to be killed by the guys chasing us?" Raider asked.
"Of course, it's better to be locked up in Impel Down." The crew members immediately understood.
"Then hurry up and run!" Raider roared.
"There's a Marine warship ahead, Captain. We're saved." The crew members suddenly made a discovery.
"Quick, hoist the white flag and head over there." Raider was overjoyed.
Many pirates simultaneously took off their pants; their white underwear could be used directly as white flags.
"We don't need so many!" Raider snapped, "One is enough."
"Have they already reached Marine territory?"
On the Bikudop, Buggy looked at the Marine warship appearing ahead. "These guys can really run!"
"They seem especially fast when they're running." Mr. 3 said, "Should we continue chasing?"
"Of course, we can just turn them into 'Landmarks," Buggy said.
"Should we eliminate the Marine as well?" Crocodile sneered.
"Let me see, it seems to be an acquaintance." Buggy saw a white-haired man smoking a cigarette on the Marine warship.
"It's Smoker!" Alvida said.
"Is that the guy the Marine claims defeated me?" Crocodile looked at Smoker. "How annoying, at least find a strong person to..."
After Monkey D. Luffy defeated Crocodile, the World Government, to cover up this fact, publicly stated that Smoker had defeated him.

That year, thirty-eight, in Loguetown, scuttling around like minions.
Smoker was in high spirits, toying with two future Four Emperors amidst his smoke.
Now, upon meeting again, Smoker himself had become the minion.
Although his promotion speed wasn't slow, he was already a Marine Vice Admiral.
But compared to the others in Loguetown, Smoker's increase in strength was like treading water.
Could it be a backlash?

Smoker certainly knew this. "Since those pirates have come here, they should be judged by the Marine."
"Alright, since you've made your decision..." Tashigi drew her long sword. "Then I'll go capture those pirates first."
As it turned out, there was no need to capture them; all the pirates of the Longuette Bread Pirates raised their hands high, actively cooperating with the Marines' arrest.

"We can't just wait to die, can we? You haven't seen that sight..." Raider was about to describe it when he noticed Smoker looking into the distance.
The Bikudop was slowly approaching.
"Yo, isn't that Smoker? Long time no see."
Buggy greeted Smoker first.
The Marines on the warship were stunned... "Did you hear that? Four Emperors Buggy actually greeted Vice Admiral Smoker first!"
"I heard it! Vice Admiral Smoker actually has such a great face; that's a Four Emperors!"
"All of you, shut up!" The smoker yelled.
"Clown Buggy, you've crossed the line. This isn't your sphere of influence." Smoker said.
"Oh, and what of it?" Buggy said, "Are you going to hit me?"
Smoker gripped his weapon, the Jitte. This guy was so annoying!
"What exactly do you want to do?" Smoker asked.
"Arrest someone." Buggy pointed at the Longuette Bread Pirates. "These guys committed the crime of plunder in my territory."
"We didn't..." Raider quickly said.
"Lying is pointless." Buggy snapped his fingers. "Pudding, extract his memories."
"Wait!" Smoker was about to stop her when a golden hook appeared at his throat.
"So careless, and you still dare to claim you defeated me?" Crocodile appeared behind Smoker.
"Damn it!" Smoker transformed into white smoke, trying to escape Crocodile's control.
Crocodile sneered, transforming into yellow sand and intertwining with the smoke.
Tashigi tried to help, but a flash of sword light blocked her.
"Little girl, long time no see." Kabaji said with a smile, "Let me, Kabaji, the Tyrant Swordsman Demon, see if you've grown."
"You're that Unicycle?" Tashigi recognized Kabaji. "Where's your unicycle?"
"Hmph, I left it in the old era. The new era has no unicycle that can carry me."
Kabaji rarely encountered a worthy opponent. "Let me see your swordsmanship!"
The two began to fight with their swords, while Pudding was already preparing to extract Raider's memories.
Raider tried to resist, but Buggy directly released his Conqueror's Haki, suppressing him motionless.
Pudding directly pulled a reel of film from his head.
It showed the Longuette Bread Pirates plundering an island, along with Raider's words.
