Chapter 47 – Unanswered Questions

Silence.
The black SUVs had disappeared into the night.
The attackers were gone.
But no one inside Fernandez Mansion felt relieved.
Jay slowly turned around and walked back toward the mansion.
Keifer followed close behind.
The others quickly gathered in the living room.
Everyone's eyes were fixed on Jay.
No one spoke.
Until...
Ci-N finally broke the silence.
"...Can someone please tell me what just happened?"
David looked at Jay.
"Those people..."
"They came here for Yuri, didn't they?"
Yuri lowered his head.
"...Yes."
The room became quiet again.
Aries stepped forward.
"Who are they?"
"And why are they trying to kill you?"
Yuri opened his mouth.
But Jay spoke first.
"That's enough."
Everyone turned to her.
Her voice was calm.
But firm.
"He won't answer any more questions."
Felix frowned.
"Jay..."
"We deserve an explanation."
"I know."
Jay nodded.
"But I can't give you one."
Ci-N blinked.
"What do you mean, you can't?"
Jay looked at each of them.
"There are things..."
"...I have to keep secret."
Keifer stared at her.
"...Not even from me?"
For the first time...
Jay couldn't meet his eyes.
"...I'm sorry."
The answer hurt more than Keifer expected.
He didn't say another word.

A few moments later...
Tita Gama walked into the living room.
"Oh dear..."
"I've just seen the damage outside."
She looked around.
"Some of the guest rooms were damaged during the attack."
"There should only be one room left that's ready."
Jay nodded.
"That's enough."
She turned toward Yuri.
"You'll stay here."
Yuri immediately shook his head.
"No."
"I've already caused enough trouble."
"If I stay..."
"I'll only put everyone in danger."
Jay looked at him without hesitation.
"No."
"You're staying."
Yuri frowned.
"...Jay."
"That's not a request."
"It's my decision."
The room fell silent.
David exchanged a glance with Felix.
Neither of them looked convinced.
Aries folded his arms.
"You trust him that much?"
Jay answered without hesitation.
"Yes."
Keifer quietly clenched his fists.
He wanted to trust Jay.
He really did.
But...
She was protecting Yuri.
While refusing to explain anything to them.

Later...
Jay personally led Yuri upstairs.
She stopped in front of the only undamaged guest room.
She opened the door.
"You'll stay here."
Yuri looked around the room before turning back to her.
"...Thank you."
Jay smiled faintly.
"Get some rest."
"We'll talk tomorrow."
Yuri nodded.
As Jay turned to leave...
He quietly called her name.
"...Jay."
She looked back.
"I'm sorry."
"For bringing all of this into your life."
Jay gave him a small smile.
"You didn't."
"It found both of us."
She closed the door behind her.

Downstairs...
Keifer stood alone on the balcony.
The cool night breeze brushed against his face.
His thoughts were a mess.
Honey quietly walked over.
"You've been standing here for a while."
Keifer let out a tired sigh.
"I don't understand."
Honey looked at him.
"What?"
He looked toward the guest room upstairs.
"She trusts Yuri..."
"So easily."
"But she won't even tell me why."
Honey remained silent.
Keifer smiled bitterly.
"I know Jay would never lie to me."
"But..."
"It feels like there's a part of her life..."
"...that I'll never be allowed to know."
Inside the mansion...
Jay stood outside Yuri's room for a few seconds.
She took a deep breath.
Tomorrow...
Everything would change.
Far away...
In a dark office...
A man slowly smiled as he looked at a photograph of Jay.
"So..."
"You've taken the bait."
His smile widened.
"Phase Two..."
"...begins now."
