Hermione looked at Nick Fury.
"This Stark guy—is he a good person?"
Nick Fury hesitated briefly. Decisively nodded. "That's right. He's also a good person."
Though he sold weapons, slept around, was arrogant—he was a good person.
As the only son of Howard Stark, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s founders, plus a famous genius scientist… Whether emotionally or practically, Tony Stark had to be saved.
Though he was taken while in military custody, S.H.I.E.L.D. was also fully cooperating in the search.
Hermione nodded. "Alright, then I'll help you this once."
"You have a way?!"
Nick Fury was pleasantly surprised.
He'd just been fishing—didn't expect to actually catch something.
"I can't find where this person is." Hermione said directly.
This was true. The movie only showed he was kidnapped in a cave in the Afghan desert. Never specified the exact location.
"Then you…" Nick Fury didn't understand.
Before he finished, Hermione interrupted: "But I can foresee his future outcome. Maybe see something in future visions. Though I'll need your help."
What?!
What did they just hear? Foresee the future?
Nick Fury, Natasha, and Coulson simultaneously jolted. Looked at Hermione in disbelief.
Every time they thought they understood Hermione enough, she refreshed their perception again.
"What do you need us to do?"
Nick Fury reacted first.
"Help me prepare a crystal ball. Must be clear and transparent. Without a single impurity." Hermione said.
Crystal ball?
Images from TV shows surfaced in their minds—fortune tellers with crystal balls, mystically deceiving people.
Hermione wouldn't do the same, would she?
Immediately they rejected this thought.
Though young, before them stood a genuine witch. How could those frauds compare?
"What else do you need?"
"My magic isn't enough to prophesy about someone I've never met. So performing divination requires the person present. Only then can I see their future."
Nick Fury: ???
Miss Witch, are you kidding me?
If I could bring Tony himself for you to divine his whereabouts, why would I need divination?
What kind of logic is this?
Seeming to realize the problem, Hermione scratched her head embarrassedly. Stuck out her cute little tongue.
"I didn't explain clearly. Though I can't see Stark's future, you can find someone very close to him. Divining her future works the same."
The three suddenly understood. Immediately grasped Hermione's meaning.
Divine the future of someone close to Tony Stark. If they saw Tony appear in that future—wouldn't that mean he'd be fine!
Though not directly finding his location, indirectly confirming his future safety—same result.
Nick Fury's old face reddened. Fortunately his dark complexion hid the change.
They couldn't think as fast as a little girl.
Has too much magic exposure made them stupid?
"Someone close to Tony Stark…" Natasha frowned.
His parents died early. No siblings. Plus arrogant and conceited—always looked down on others. With that personality, hard to know who could be close to him.
Can't possibly find some cover girl he'd slept with before.
Suddenly, Natasha seemed to remember something. Whispered in Fury's ear.
Nick Fury nodded: "Then let's invite her."
After confirming nothing else was needed, Coulson quickly had people prepare.
After a while, an agent entered. Carrying a crystal ball.
"Just put it on the table." Hermione said lightly.
The agent glanced at Fury. The latter said directly: "Do as she says."
The agent left.
After another interval, a beautiful woman in a business suit, looking somewhat haggard, was brought into the room.
"I heard you can find Tony?"
The woman asked directly upon entering.
Nick Fury said: "Indeed we can. But need your assistance, Miss Potts."
Pepper Potts nodded. Expression somewhat excited.
"As long as you can find Tony, I'll help however needed. Just please bring him back safely as soon as possible."
Her brows carried an indescribable exhaustion.
As Tony Stark's personal assistant, during his disappearance, she'd worried sleeplessly every night. Also pulled many strings hoping to find him. All without results.
Worrying about Tony while struggling to handle the company's daily affairs—this left Pepper, a business powerhouse, physically and mentally exhausted. Only hoped Tony was safe and would return soon.
Moreover, she knew—the subtle feelings between them were definitely more than boss and secretary.
"Please rest assured, Miss Potts," Nick Fury said. "Since S.H.I.E.L.D. dares say this, we have confidence. Only this time finding Tony—we're not the main force. Like you, just support personnel."
"Huh? Not you? Then who?"
Pepper was surprised. If not an intelligence agency like S.H.I.E.L.D., who else had this capability?
The military?
If they were reliable, Tony wouldn't have been kidnapped in the first place.
Nick Fury pointed toward Hermione, still studying the crystal ball.
"Her."
Pepper froze.
A little girl, maybe eleven or twelve, appeared before her.
And wearing black robes. Was this cosplaying some cartoon's evil wizard?
"You're saying… she'll find Tony?"
Pepper looked at Nick Fury incredulously.
"How?"
Doubt gradually appeared in her eyes.
"With magic." Nick Fury's expression didn't change.
Taking a deep breath, Pepper suppressed the urge to turn and leave. Said coldly: "I'm not in the mood for jokes."
Nick Fury was somewhat helpless. But still patiently said: "It is her. Her and her magic. Specifically divination. Can find Stark."
"If you called me here just to mock me, congratulations—you succeeded. The company still has so much work. If there's nothing else, I won't keep you company."
Pepper's eyes showed deep disappointment. Turned to leave.
Just as she neared the door, it slammed shut automatically.
Pepper angrily turned. Saw the wizard-costumed little girl pointing a small black stick at her.
"Petrificus Totalus!"
Next second, her entire body froze from some inexplicable force.
Though her thoughts remained clear, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't move at all. As if someone hit pause on her entire being.
