The Pyramid of the Desert loomed before them, ancient stone gleaming under the relentless sun. Sand shifted around its base, but the structure itself stood eternal, untouched by time, unworn by wind.
Sage Cedric: "The entrance is open. The pyramid has been waiting."
Saint Serene: "Waiting for the worthy."
Sage Veyron: "Waiting for you."
The young ones gathered at the threshold.
Ruo, Kent, Mira, Selene, Alya, Finny, Kanade, Tania, all of them, standing together.
Mysterious Person: from the shadows, "I will not enter with you."
Ruo: "Why?"
Mysterious Person: "This journey is yours. What you find inside..." he paused, "...you must find alone."
He stepped back into shadow.
Mira: "He's not coming?"
Selene: "He's always watching."
Alya: "He'll be there when we need him."
Nihil Zhou stepped forward, gray hair catching the desert light. Beside him stood Akira Sato, calm and patient. Kentaro Miura leaned on his staff, eyes sharp.
Nihil: "We will guide you. But the trials are yours."
Akira: "The pyramid tests the worthy. Prove yourselves."
Kentaro: "And survive."
They crossed the threshold.
The first chamber chamber was empty.
Stone walls, stone floor, silence.
Ruo: "This seems too easy."
He stepped forward.
Click.
Arrows shot from the walls, dozens of them, tipped with poison, aimed at every angle.
Mira: "move..."
He couldn't move. The arrows were too fast."
Kentaro Miura raised his hand. Gravity bent. The arrows froze mid-flight, clattering to the floor.
Kentaro: "Here, there are many traps. Only those who stay alive until the end can claim the treasure."
Mira: "Who made these traps?"
Kentaro: "No one knows. Perhaps the Mysterious One knows. But most traps were set nine years ago."
Selene: "By who?"
Kentaro: "By me."
Silence.
Finny: "You?"
Kentaro: "The gravity crushing chamber. The pressure room. I set them. To keep others out. The treasure was meant for the chosen ones."
He gestured to the walls.
Kentaro: "Fourteen rooms. Fourteen trials. Each designed to test something different."
Ruo: "What's the first test?"
Kentaro: "Observation. You stepped without looking. You almost died."
He moved to the far wall, pressing a stone that shifted under his touch. The door opened.
kentaro: "Next room."
The second chamber was larger. The ceiling was stone, thick, ancient. As the last person entered, the door behind them locked with a heavy thud.
Then the ceiling began to descend.
Mira: "It's coming down!"
Selene: "How do we stop it?"
Kanade: her cat eyes scanning, "There, pillars in the corners. If we brace them..."
Tania: "Too far. We won't make it before it crushes us."
kent: "Then we stop it from moving."
Light blazed from his palms, golden, brilliant. He pushed against the ceiling. It slowed.
Ruo: "Kent..."
Kent: "Help me!"
Blue lightning joined the golden light. The ceiling groaned but keep descending.
Alya: "It's not enough!"
Finny: "Gravity."
He raised his hands. The ceiling's weight shifted, lighter, then lighter still.
Kanade: "Now!"
She and Tania sprinted to the pillars, slamming them into place. The ceiling shuddered and stopped.
Akira: watching, "Good. They work together."
Nihil: "They're learning."
The far door opened.
The third room was narrow. Tiny holes lined the floor, the walls, the ceiling.
Kentaro: "Poisoned needles. If you move faster than a slow crawl, they activate."
Mira: "How slow?"
Kentaro: "Very."
He stepped forward, demonstrating. Each movement was deliberate, measured.
They followed. One by one, step by step, crawling through the deadly hall.
Needles brushed against their clothes. None pierced skin.
Twenty minutes later, they reached the far door.
Finny: "That was torture."
Kentaro: "That was patience. Speed kills. Rushing kills. The pyramid teaches."
The fourth room was sealed behind them. In the center, a magical flame flickered to life, blue, hungry, consuming.
Selene: "What is that?"
Kentaro: "Oxygen. It's eating the air."
Mira: "We have to put it out."
She cast a spell. The flame flickered but didn't die.
Tania: "Fire doesn't kill fire."
She breathed deep, releasing dragon flame. The magical flame fed on it, growing brighter.
Kanade: "Stop! You're making it worse!"
Alya: "It's not fire. It's something else."
She reached out with her fox senses, feeling the flame's nature.
Alya: "It's a construct. Sustained by magic. If we cut the magic..."
Kent: "Then we cut the source."
He moved to the flame's base, golden light surrounding his hands. He pressed down.
The flame sputtered. Died.
The door opened.
Akira: "Resourcefulness. Good."
The fifth room was open, with stone pillars scattered throughout. Above, the ceiling glistened with moisture.
Kentaro: "Every thirty seconds, acid rains. The pillars are safe zones. Find them. Time it. Survive."
The first drop fell. It burned through stone where it landed.
Mira: "Move!"
They scattered, finding pillars. The rain came in waves, thirty seconds of acid, thirty seconds of safety.
Ruo: "How many waves?"
Kentaro: "Until you find the door."
They moved between pillars, counting seconds, timing their sprints. Each wave was faster. Each pillar was further apart.
Finny: "There, the door!"
It was across the room, past six pillars, through three waves of acid.
Selene: "We won't make it."
Alya: "We will."
She focused, her nine tails shimmering behind her. She mapped the timing, the distance, the path.
Alya: "Go. Now."
They ran.
Acid fell behind them. Ahead of them.
Beside them.
They reached the door. Opened it. Collapsed through.
Tania: "That was insane."
Kanade: "That was timing."
Nihil: "That was survival."
The sixth room was a corridor. blades swung from the ceiling in rhythmic arcs, deadly pendulums, sharp as light.
Kentaro: "Timing. Precision. One mistake, and..." he gestured at the bloodstains on the floor.
Kent: "How do we cross?"
Kentaro: "Watch. Learn. Move."
He stepped forward, moving between the blades with practiced ease. One step. Two. Three.
He reached the far side.
Kentaro: "Your turn."
Ruo: "I'll go first."
He watched the pattern, forward, back, forward. pause. He stepped.
The blade passed inches from his face. He moved. Another blade. He ducked. Another. He jumped.
He reached the far side, breathing hard.
Mira: "My turn."
She watched, memorized, moved.
Blade. Duck. Blade. Jump. Blade. Slide.
She reached the far side.
Selene moved like water. Kent moved like light. Alya moved like shadow. Finny bent gravity to slow the blades. Kanade flowed between them like a cat. Tania charged through, trusting her scales to protect her.
They all made it.
Akira: "Good. Very good."
The seventh room was vast. Sand poured from the ceiling in a steady stream, filling the chamber slowly.
Kentaro: "Find the exit before the sand buries you."
Selene: "How long?"
Kentaro: "The sand will fill the room in an hour. The door is hidden."
They searched. Sand rose around their ankles. Their knees. Their waists.
Mira: "I can't find anything!"
Kanade: "The walls are solid. The floor is solid."
Tania: "There's no door!"
Alya: "There is. We're not looking right."
She closed her eyes, reaching out with her fox senses. The sand whispered. The walls whispered. The ceiling whispered.
Alya: "Above."
Ruo: "The ceiling?"
Alya: "The sand is coming from somewhere. The door is where it starts."
Kent: "Then we climb."
Sand was at their chests now. They climbed the falling stream, fighting the weight, fighting the flow.
Finny: "Gravity. I can lighten us."
He reduced their weight. They climbed faster."
Ruo: "There!"
An opening in the ceiling, a passage hidden by the falling sand. They pulled themselves through, collapsing onto stone.
The sand stopped.
The door behind them opened.
Nihil: "Clever. The door was never on the floor."
The eighth room was sealed. Green gas began seeping from the walls, heavy, sinking toward the floor.
Kentaro: "Poison gas. It fills from the ceiling down. Stay low. Crawl. Breathe shallow."
Mira: "We can't hold our breath for..."
Kentaro: "Then learn."
They dropped to the floor, crawling through the rising gas. It burned their eyes. Their lungs.
Mira: "Healing, I can..."
Selene: "Save it. For when we need it."
They crawled. The gas rose to their backs, their shoulders, their chins.
Tania: "I can't..."
Kanade: "Breathe shallow. Focus."
Alya: "The door. I see it."
It was across the room. Ten meters. Fifteen. Twenty.
Kent: "We run."
He grabbed Selene's hand. Ruo grabbed Mira's. Alya grabbed Kanade and Tania.
Finny: "Gravity. I'll lighten us."
They ran.
Gas filled their lungs. Their vision blurred. Their legs burned.
They reached the door. Opened it. Fell through.
Selene: gasping, "Healing... now."
Her magic washed over them, cleaning the poison from their blood.
Mira: "That was close."
Akira: "That was will."
The ninth room held a pedestal. On it, a golden key.
Kentaro: "The key opens next door. Removing it triggers the trap."
Ruo: "What trap?"
Kentaro: "Sound. A frequency that damages from within. It will deafen you. It will kill you if you stay too long."
Selene: "How do we stop it?"
Kentaro: "You don't. You endure."
Ruo: "I'll take it."
He stepped forward. His hand closed around the key.
The sound came.
It was not heard. It was felt. Vibrations through bone, through blood, through thought. His vision blurred. His ears bled.
Mira: "Ruo!"
She ran to him, covering her ears, her own blood dripping.
Selene: "Healing... I can't... the sound disrupts it..."
Kent: "Then we get out."
He grabbed Ruo, pulling him toward the far door. The others followed, stumbling, blessing, screaming without sound.
The key turned. The door opened.
They fell through.
Silence.
Ruo: gasping, "Everyone... alive?"
Mira: "Barely."
Kentaro: "That was endurance. Pain is a test. You passed."
The tenth room flooded with serpents. Cobras, vipers, every venomous snake imaginable, pouring from pipes in the corners.
Mira: "Snakes!"
Kanade: "I can control... no, they're not beasts. They're constructs."
Alya: "Then we fight."
She raised her hand, commanding fifty of the serpents with her enslavement path. They turned on their brethren.
Tania: "Fire!"
Dragon flame burned through the writhing mass.
Kent: "Light!"
Golden light seared the shadows where serpents hide."
Ruo: "Lightning!"
Blue electricity arced through the pit, stunning, killing.
Finny: "Gravity!"
He crushed a dozen serpents at once.
Selene: "Healing!"
She kept them standing, kept them fighting.
Kanade: "There... the exit!"
They pushed through the remaining serpents, reaching the far door.
It opened.
The eleventh room was lined with mirrors. Infinite reflections. Infinite possibilities.
Kentaro: "The mirrors hold your reflections. They will stop out and fight you. They have your exact skills. Your exact power."
Ruo: "How do we defeat ourselves?"
Kentaro: "You don't. You outsmart them."
The mirrors rippled. Figures stepped out, Ruo's reflection, Kent's reflection, all of them.
Mira: "They're us."
Selene: "Then we can't beat them."
Alya: "We don't have to."
She stepped forward, her nine tails manifesting fully.
Alya: "They're reflections. Reflections can't see what's behind them."
Tania: "behind?"
Alya: "We fight as one. They fight as copies. There's a difference."
She attacked her reflection, not to kill, but to drive it back. The others followed.
Ruo vs Ruo. Lightning against lightning.
Kent vs Kent. Light against light.
Mira vs Mira. Witchcraft against witchcraft.
Selene vs Selene. Weapons against weapons.
Alya vs Alya. Fox against fox.
Finny vs Finny. Gravity against gravity.
Kanade vs Kanade. Speed against speed.
Tania vs Tania. Dragon against dragon.
But they fought together. The reflections fought alone.
One by one, the copies fell.
The mirrors shattered.
Akira: "Unity. The pyramid cannot copy unity."
The twelfth room had a narrow bridge over a hundred-foot drop. Below, darkness.
Kentaro: "The bridge will hold only so much weight. Exceed it, and the center falls."
Mira: "How much?"
Kentaro: "You'll find out."
Ruo: "We go one at a time."
Kent: "Slowly. Carefully."
They crossed. One by one. Step by step.
Finny: "I can lighten us..."
Kentaro: "No. The bridge senses weight, not gravity. Tricking it will trigger the fall."
Finny: "Then we trust it."
They crossed.
When the last person reached the far side, the bridge held.
Nihil: "Discipline. Good."
The thirteenth room was empty. Stone walls. Stone floor. Stone ceiling.
Kentaro: "This is my trap. Gravity increased tenfold. You will crawl to the far wall, where a lever normalizes the pressure."
Tania: "Tenfold?"
Kentaro: "Yes."
He stepped back. The door sealed.
The pressure came.
Ruo: fell to his knees, "Can't... stand..."
Kent: on his hands and knees, "Move... we have to... move..."
Mira: crawling, "The lever... across the room..."
Selene: "Healing... can't heal gravity..."
Alya: her nine tails spread, distributing the weight, "I can... move... faster..."
She crawled. Ten feet. Twenty. Thirty.
Kanade: "I'm coming..."
Tania: "Me too..."
They moved together, inch by inch, the pressure crushing.
Finny: "I can... lighten us..."
Alya: "No. Trust the weight. Trust ourselves."
Fifty. Sixty. Seventy.
The lever. Alya reached it. Pulled.
The pressure lifted.
They collapsed.
Kentaro: "Strength. You have it."
