Manhattan. The sky sneered.

No sound — just a contemptuous mental wave that hit every mind on the ground. The giant black face collapsed into the clouds. The symbiote vortex churned.

A pure-black meteorite — thirty meters in diameter — ejected from the center and tore through the stratosphere.

"SCATTER!" Steve roared.

BOOM!

Manhattan Island shuddered. The impact wave threw asphalt three stories high and shredded a dozen abandoned cars.

From the crater, black slime peeled away like petals.

A creature stepped out.

No legs — the lower body was tattered, off-white burial shrouds. The upper body was covered in interwoven symbiote-and-shadow patterns. An inverted skull face. And where an Omnitrix emblem would be — a single rotating purple eye.

Zs'Skayr.

The true master of the Ghostfreak gene. The Ectonurite overlord from Jake's own watch.

"Azmuth's toy." The voice was nails on a blackboard. "Knull gave me a perfect body. Now — release my genes from that disgusting cage!"

Five black ground spikes — symbiote fused with shadow energy — erupted toward Jake's heart.

Steve's shield cut through them. Tony's shoulder cannons fired — six armor-piercing rounds into Zs'Skayr's chest.

They passed through. Hit the building behind him. Shattered glass.

"Physical attacks ineffective?" Tony frowned.

"MOVE!" Thor dove — Stormbreaker high, lightning descending.

Zs'Skayr didn't dodge. His body phased to gray mist. The lightning passed through and cratered the ground beneath. The mist re-condensed. Untouched.

"Immune to physical AND energy?" Steve gripped his shield, cold sweat running.

"I am the shadow. I am fear."

Hundreds of symbiote tentacles erupted from Zs'Skayr's burial shrouds — fanged, reaching, overwhelming.

Whoosh! — XLR8. Jake grabbed Steve and Tony by their collars and dragged them clear in a blink.

Human form. Assessment complete.

"Ordinary attacks can't touch him because he doesn't belong to this universe. He's a tenant inside my watch."

Jake stepped forward. Alone. Facing the tentacle storm.

"Zs'Skayr. You think clinging to Knull's coattails changes anything?"

He pressed the dial.

"Today I'll teach you a phrase: cleaning house."

Green flash.

Ghostfreak.

"STUPID MONKEY!" Zs'Skayr shrieked with laughter. "Using MY genes to fight ME? I can strip control of that body anytime!"

He dove — a black whirlwind — and crashed directly into Jake's Ghostfreak form.

Possession. The same technique he'd used in the original series. Taking back what he considered his.

"JAKE!" Gwen went white.

Ghostfreak's body froze. Black symbiote slime spread across the off-white skin.

"IT'S MINE! This body — this watch — ALL MINE!" Zs'Skayr's madness echoed from within.

"Is that so?"

Jake's voice — cold, controlled, coming from deeper inside than Zs'Skayr could reach.

"Do you think I'm still a kid wearing a limiter?"

The dark-gold dial spun.

Ultimate Evolution — ACTIVATE!

FLASH—!!!

White-green light detonated from inside Jake's body — burning, purifying, rejecting.

"NO! WHAT IS THIS?! STOP—!" Zs'Skayr's scream went shrill as symbiote slime was scorched away layer by layer.

The light cleared.

Ghostfreak was gone.

What floated in the darkness was something else entirely.

Three meters tall. Draped in a Dark Matter Cloak that absorbed light like a black hole given fabric. No off-white skin — the true form beneath was burning ghostly-blue soul flame. The Omnitrix emblem had turned dark gold. Beneath the hood, a single crimson vertical eye emitted the aura of absolute extinction.

Ultimate Ghostfreak.

The temperature dropped. Water froze to black ice. The air itself seemed to darken further around this form.

"You... what did you do to MY genes?!"

Zs'Skayr — ejected, diminished, staring at a version of himself that was purer, darker, and operating on a dimensional plane he couldn't reach — trembled.

"Just an upgrade."

Ultimate Ghostfreak extended his right hand. No palm. Five bone claws made of ghostly-blue soul flame.

"Game over."

Jake made a gripping motion from a distance.

HUM!

Dark matter sealed the space around Zs'Skayr. No exit. No phasing. No escape.

"DON'T—!" Zs'Skayr tried to go intangible.

"Phasing?"

The bone claws thrust forward.

PUCHI!

They pierced through Zs'Skayr's ethereal form — ignoring intangibility, ignoring physical immunity, ignoring every defense an Ectonurite possessed. Because Ultimate Ghostfreak wasn't attacking a body. He was attacking the soul.

"AAAAAAHH!!!"

A scream that had never been heard from Zs'Skayr in any universe.

"Since you love symbiotes so much—"

Jake twisted his wrist. The claws wrenched inside Zs'Skayr's soul.

RIP!

The symbiote bonded to Zs'Skayr's essence was torn free — peeled away like a shell — and the black slime writhed and wailed in mid-air before the ghostly-blue flames incinerated it to ash.

Without the symbiote, Zs'Skayr shriveled. His purple eye dimmed with terror.

"You are my genes... you CANNOT devour me!"

"Genes are tools. I am the user."

Jake pulled. From the center of Zs'Skayr's body — a sphere of gray light. His conscious origin. The pure Ectonurite bloodline.

"Shut up. Become nourishment."

Jake opened his mouth. Tossed the sphere into the ghostly-blue soul flames.

"NOOOOOO—"

Silence.

Gray mist dissipated. Zs'Skayr — annihilated.

[Pure Ectonurite origin absorbed.]

[Shadow Dimension control permissions — unlocked.]

[Ghostfreak form — perfected. Rebellion risk: 0%.]

Ultimate Ghostfreak descended slowly. Dark Matter Cloak rippling in windless air. The crimson eye scanned the battlefield — and every person present, hero or otherwise, felt the weight of silent extinction pressing on their lungs.

Click.

Human form. The pressure lifted like a spell breaking.

Jake flexed his wrist. Looked up at the writhing darkness still consuming the sky.

Knull's vanguard — insta-killed. And instead of testing Jake's limits, it had delivered a free genetic completion.

"Next."

From subspace, Jake drew an ordinary notched iron sword — salvaged from Asgard's ruins.

He gripped the hilt.

One thought.

Szzzt—

Ghostly-blue shadow energy flowed down his arm, wrapping the iron blade. The ordinary metal gained a dark-matter edge deeper than the night itself.

Shadow Enchantment.

The hacker had learned a new trick.
