Chapter 27 - Chapter 28

Chapter 28 It's normal for a Flareon, which specializes in catching Mega Charizard Y, to learn "Rain Dance," right?

The team's first collaboration went well; they even had the strength to fight again after the entire battle.

  "Fennekin and Finneon, well done."

However, Link wasn't in a hurry to start another battle. Instead, he took his Pokémon back to his room.

You don't necessarily have to hit a wall to know your shortcomings. Through the battle just now, he had realized the major flaws of this combination and how to compensate for them.

The biggest problem was that Pokémon like Finneon were difficult to move on land. Not every battle would provide a pool, and once it was on land, its strength would be reduced by at least half.

Flareon, after all, was only recently born. Besides its basic stats being far inferior to adult Pokémon, its move pool was also somewhat limited.

If the opponent was a type it couldn't handle, its remaining moves were only "Hypnosis" and "Mimic."

But even if it fully supported Finneon, it could only use "Psychic" to free the latter from the water's constraints.

In reality, one can resist status moves through willpower, mental resistance, or techniques like Rejuvenation Throat. Even if a Fennekin, whose Special Attack isn't particularly outstanding, lands a precise "Hypnosis," it's unlikely to be effective.

As for controlling an opponent with "Psychic," that's even more impossible. Experienced opponents, when bound by psychic powers, will boost and unleash their own type energy to disrupt the stability of the psychic ability, thus resisting such moves and moving freely.

To use psychic powers to control an opponent, one must maintain focus and stability under intense interference, which then becomes a simple numerical battle…

Link always believed that trainers and Pokémon weaker than himself could win even with a dog on a leash, so he only considered opponents stronger than himself as his hypothetical enemies.

The training for "Nature's Force" and "Weather Ball" must be intensive. It would also be best if Fiddlesticks learned disruptive moves like "Another Attack" and "Ultrasonic" from Finneon, allowing the latter to focus on attacking.

Indeed, Link's current team role for Fiddlesticks is "Shield," "Support," and "Disruption.

" For Fire-type moves, "Will-O-Wisp" is enough, and if possible, he'd prefer Fiddlesticks to learn "Rain Dance" as soon as possible…

  "Fiddlesticks!?"

  Me? Learn "Rain Dance"?

"Be confident, 'Rain Dance' is already among the moves you can master."

  Fiddlesticks was deeply skeptical; it's a Fire-type.

Back in the room, Link was pleasantly surprised to find an aquarium provided for Water-type Pokémon, allowing Finneon to rest.

"If all goes well, we'll reach Rustboro City tomorrow night, and we'll definitely challenge the Rock-type Gym then."

  "Fiddlesticks?" "

The thought of the Rock-type Gym filled with Pokémon like the Giant Charcoal Truck gave the Fennekin a headache.

The blasts from those 'Primal Power' projectiles were almost incapacitating it. It wasn't modesty; it just wanted to let Finneon handle the Rock-type Gym.

  'Eek~'

'Yes, it'll be Finneon's home turf then, but you'll have your chance to shine at the next Fighting-type Gym.'

Link didn't instill false confidence in his Pokémon; instead, he explained the basics of type matchups, helping Fennekin and Finneon understand their own type advantages and disadvantages.

He wasn't a master of type advantages; he'd definitely focus on type-advantageous battles in the early stages.

After explaining the type rules to his Pokémon, he had Fennekin learn 'One More Time' from Finneon in the room.

This simple and practical move was effective in most battles and was a must-learn for Fennekin.

Link himself didn't slack off either, starting today's simulation while the Pokémon were learning.

In less than ten minutes, he wiped out his team three times, ending today's simulation."

Takuma Momozuka, however, couldn't evolve Agumon again!

Link was speechless, deciding to never trust these people again and focus on evolving his own Remyokon...

  ...

That night, he returned to the Pokémon Dream World.

The room was exactly the same as yesterday, but a new page had been added to the "Friends' Sketchpad," and the Water Puff Finneon had also appeared in it.

The scene outside was the same as yesterday: two rows of Starf Berry trees grew slowly, pollinating and bearing fruit on their own even without care.

Link used the tools by the pond to water the trees and picked a couple of fruits.

He then crossed the Rainbow Bridge again and arrived at the café on the giant floating island.

  "Wow, it's a human."

"Human? I thought it was a Throwing Monkey that looks a lot like a human."

"Why can humans come to the Dream Realm? "

"Be careful, he might beat up your whole family and kidnap you."

The Pokémon visiting today were a different batch, and there were even many species he didn't recognize, possibly from regions he hadn't been to before.

This world is so vast; the vast majority of Pokémon are ones he doesn't know or understand.

  Fortunately, Mew was there today.

"Welcome, Link, what would you like to eat today?"

"Good evening, Mew, a cup of Eevee Latte." Seeing that Mew seemed quite cheerful today, he asked curiously, "When I woke up yesterday, I found that the Starf Berry I gave you had suddenly appeared in my hand. Is that also a Dream's ability?"

Mew nodded. That's right, the Starf Berry Link gave him was actually a copy created by the Dream Realm.

Things here don't actually consume; the Star Peach only materializes when one returns to reality.

"What an incredible place." "Of course, the Dream World has many more functions; you're sure to be startled several times in the future."

How could it be startling? A level 100 Dream Ball Alpaca suddenly popping up?

Mew didn't linger, quickly returning to its busy work.

Meanwhile, Link diligently observed the Pokémon visiting the café, searching for those most likely from Galar.

But even after Mew returned with its Ibrahimovic latte using psychic powers, it hadn't seen the iconic Galar Pokémon.

"What are you looking for?" Mew asked, putting down the latte.

"I'm looking for a Galar Pokémon; I want to ask them to help Calyrex recover."

  Calyrex?

Mew, who had been in the café for who knows how long, had never heard of this Pokémon.

Seeing the other's curiosity, Link pondered for a moment, then proceeded to tell everyone about the Abundance King from the Galar region three thousand years ago.

This should help it recover some of its strength.

Time flew by, and soon it was time to wake up again.

By the time Link realized what was happening after Dream's reminder, even the latte in his cup had gone cold.

"Isn't the flow of time a bit off?"

he wondered, thinking he hadn't been talking for very long.

Dream chuckled and gave the answer: "The length of time a person can stay here depends on their mental strength. Link, you still need to train."

"Okay, before I leave, can I ask you a few more questions?"

Seeing Dream nod in agreement, Link decisively asked the question he'd been pondering before going to sleep: "Mew, do you know how to get the Fennekin to master 'Rainbow'?"
