Chapter 28 - “A Second Beginning”

The confession didn't feel dramatic.

It felt peaceful.

After ten years of silence, there were no fireworks — just relief.

Anna and Oliver sat down in the quiet conference room, both smiling slightly, almost in disbelief.

"I can't believe it took us a decade," Oliver said.

Anna shook her head. "We were kids."

"We're not kids anymore," he replied softly.

And that was true.

This wasn't a school crush anymore.

This wasn't stolen glances across desks.

They were adults now.

They had responsibilities.

Careers.

Entire worlds built separately.

If this was going to work — it had to be real.

Over the next few weeks, their companies began working together officially.

Meetings became frequent.

Professional.

Structured.

But outside the meeting room, small conversations began.

Coffee after presentations.

Late evening discussions about strategy turning into stories about school.

"Do you remember the history test when Sophia was absent?" Oliver asked one evening.

Anna laughed. "You barely looked at your paper."

"I was nervous," he admitted.

"You never looked nervous."

"I was. Around you."

She smiled softly.

Some memories felt sweeter now.

Because they finally understood them.

One night, after finishing a long discussion about a project launch, they stood outside the building.

The city was calm.

"Are you scared?" Oliver asked suddenly.

"Of what?"

"Of trying again."

Anna thought for a moment.

"Yes," she answered honestly. "But I'm more scared of not trying."

He looked at her the same way he used to in school.

But this time, there was certainty in his eyes.

"No more misunderstandings," he said.

"No more silence," she agreed.

"And no running away."

She smiled. "I'm not that girl anymore."

"I know," he said proudly. "You're stronger now."

"And you're braver," she replied.

They decided not to rush.

No dramatic announcements.

No sudden changes.

They chose to build slowly.

Like adults.

Like partners.

Not just in business.

But in life.

Anna realized something important.

She didn't love him because he was her first crush.

She loved him because even after ten years, growth, success, and distance—

When he stood beside her,

It still felt right.

Not dramatic.

Not overwhelming.

Just right.

As they walked toward their cars that night, Oliver stopped her gently.

"One last thing."

"Yes?"

"This time… I'm not letting you disappear under a different sky."

Anna smiled.

"This time… I'm not leaving without you knowing."

Ten years ago, they were roll number 11 and 12.

Two shy teenagers afraid of their own feelings.

Now?

They were equals.

Stronger.

Clearer.

And finally honest.

And maybe…

Their story wasn't about almost anymore.

Maybe it was about always. 💙
