Chapter 271
The Dao Arthur Narin
"What?"
"I said: Do you think the decision to lose is yours to make?"
Arthur continued in a calm voice devoid of hesitation, yet its sharpness was enough to tear through the nerves:
"You arrogant, conceited bastard."
Arthur advanced toward Thomas with confident steps. At the same moment, Regia, the Giant King, stepped aside, clearing the path as though his presence was no longer needed.
"Just because you can't defeat me, you decided to surrender?" Arthur continued, his eyes fixed on Thomas's trembling face. "Tell me, if you were capable of killing me... would you have ended things without a fight? Without breaking me or humiliating me?"
He paused for a moment before adding coldly:
"No. A thousand times no. You would have broken my nose, stomped on me with all your strength, and shown me my place... wouldn't you?"
Thomas's body trembled as he listened. Arthur's words were not an accusation, but a naked truth. Deep down, Thomas had been planning to crush Arthur, break his bones, and satisfy his pride by humiliating him. But now, having realized his true standing, he had found nothing left but to accept defeat.
And here arose the question: Was accepting defeat truly an act worthy of respect?
Kareng, for example.
He fought with everything he had. He struck, defended himself, and charged forward until the very last ounce of his strength. And when he realized that the end had come, he accepted it like a warrior. He stood firm and faced his death standing.
That was something worthy of respect... and appreciation.
Thomas, however, stood on the opposite side.
He couldn't defeat even a single one of Arthur's soldiers, so he chose to surrender in humiliation. He didn't fight, he didn't endure, he didn't stand like a man. He did nothing except spout nonsense.
And that... was nothing but disgusting.
"All right, listen." Arthur said in a frighteningly calm tone. "I won't be unfair to you. I'll only kill you. Is that acceptable?"
"No... no, please..." Thomas stammered.
"Be grateful that I didn't kill your support and your companions." Arthur continued indifferently.
Before he could finish his words, a painful scream erupted from the building behind him.
"Oh..." Arthur muttered with a sinister smile. "Looks like Hwang Dong broke through his sound points and managed to speak."
Then he looked at Thomas and said:
"All right... choose."
"What?"
"Death like Hwang Dong, or a quick death."
He pretended to think for a moment, then added sarcastically:
"That is, if he even dies. Perhaps that bastard soldier will like his body. And as you know... one thing leads to another, and boom... we might find him pregnant."
Arthur burst into loud, distorted laughter, filled with amusement.
"A pregnant man... What a hilarious idea. Absolute nonsense!"
In Thomas's eyes, Arthur seemed insane.
One moment, he spoke of death, the next of torture, and the third of disgusting mockery that went beyond comprehension. An absurd question even crossed his mind: Was this even possible?
Arthur suddenly stopped laughing and raised his hand toward the sky.
At that moment, Thomas realized the entire truth.
No escape. No fight. No choice.
Death.
For millions of years, humans had always wondered: Could a person accept their own death without resisting? Without one final strike, one desperate attempt, or one last run?
Unfortunately... Thomas now had his answer.
He struck the ground beneath his feet with force and ran.
He ran without looking back. He didn't turn toward his men, the humans, or even the world itself. His will to live had shattered, and his defiance vanished before an overwhelming might that could not be resisted.
It was said long ago: Under immense pressure, the will breaks no matter how strong it is.
Except in extremely rare cases... which never happen.
Arthur calmly exhaled, then pointed his hand toward the sky, in the direction Thomas had fled.
In the next moment, the Beast King disappeared at an unbelievable speed, only to return seconds later, carrying Thomas's trembling body.
"No... please..."
"Just die and get it over with." Arthur said coldly. "You've really exhausted me."
He moved his hand.
And in a fraction of a fraction of a second, the world turned upside down in Thomas's eyes.
Thoughts rushed through his mind in a frenzy: Had the world been destroyed? Was everything over? Then he understood the truth...
His head was rolling across the ground.
Arthur had severed his head without hesitation, without interest.
"Hey! Are you done, you idiot?" Arthur shouted toward the ruined building.
One of his soldiers emerged, holding Hwang Dong's head in his hand.
"From that look on your face, I can tell you enjoyed yourself." Arthur said with a sinister smile.
He snapped his fingers, and all the soldiers returned to their positions. Arthur remained standing alone upon the ruined ground, which was covered with the bodies of unconscious hunters.
No one had died... except two.
Thomas, a National-Level Hunter. And Hwang Dong, an S-Rank Hunter.
Later, the entire world was shaken.
The death of an S-Rank Hunter was not the true shock. Rather, it was the news that sent everyone into turmoil: The death of Thomas, one of the four strongest National-Level Hunters... and perhaps the strongest of them all.
An unshakable mountain, crushed and humiliated by a single man.
The world's number-one National-Level Hunter.
The demon... Dao Arthur Narin.
Dao: An honorific title bestowed upon one who has reached absolute power in the world.
Throughout history, it had been given to only two people.
The first... was a hunter said to possess enough power to shatter the very earth. One day, he struck the sky, split it open, and disappeared into it... never to return.
Three hundred years passed.
But didn't dungeons and monsters only appear a few years ago?
Then how could someone like that have existed all that time ago?
Well, no one truly knows.
•Only he knows.•
And now... the second Dao had appeared.
Dao Arthur Narin.
