Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Under the Same Sky

Night settled quietly over Titanblood Tribe.

The newly built fences stood firm under the moonlight. The storage house sat full for the first time since its construction. The fields, freshly turned and seeded, waited patiently for whatever they'd become.

For the first time since falling into this world, there was a fragile sense of stability.

A Quiet Night

Inside the wooden house, the fire had burned low, casting more shadow than light across the walls. Kael sat near the edge of it, reviewing plans sketched roughly into the dirt floor — supply lines, defensive gaps, things that still needed fixing before they could afford to rest.

Soft footsteps approached. He already knew who it was before she spoke.

"…You're still awake," Elara's voice came, gentle in a way it rarely was during the daylight hours.

He didn't look up right away. "Chiefs don't sleep early."

She crossed the room and sat beside him — closer than usual, close enough that the space between them had all but disappeared. The confidence that usually sat sharp in her eyes had softened into something warmer tonight.

For a moment, neither of them spoke. Only the low crackle of the dying fire filled the silence.

Then Elara's fingers found the back of his hand — not bold, not demanding, just seeking warmth the way anyone might on a cold night.

"In Abyssari tradition," she whispered, "we stay beside the one we trust."

Kael turned his head slightly toward her. Their eyes met, and something passed between them that neither one bothered to put into words.

He didn't pull away.

Instead, his hand turned gently beneath hers, holding it.

Elara's breath caught for half a second before she let her head rest against his shoulder, the movement easy, unforced, like something that had always belonged there.

Outside, the cold night wind moved across the plains. Inside, the warmth between them deepened slowly — not rushed, not wild. Just two people carving out a moment of peace in a world that rarely offered one.

Across the room, Angelika lay facing the wall, eyes open in the dark.

Silent.

Morning Disturbance

At dawn, Kael stepped outside for his usual inspection, the air crisp against his skin. Something about the morning felt different, though — a wrongness he couldn't immediately name, the kind of feeling that came from years of learning to trust his own instincts.

Then he saw it.

Movement along the western slope. A group of people, walking slowly, tired and guarded, their pace uneven in the way exhaustion makes a body move.

Kael's eyes sharpened instantly. He signaled the tribe to stay alert and walked forward alone to meet them.

As the distance closed, he counted quickly — around forty people. Men, women, even a handful of children among them. All exhausted. All wary, the way people are when the world has recently taught them not to trust easily.

First Contact

Kael stopped several paces away, his voice calm but carrying enough authority to stop the group in its tracks.

"State your purpose."

They froze at the sound of it. After a long moment, a middle-aged man stepped forward cautiously, his clothes torn, his face streaked with dirt, exhaustion carved into every line of him.

"…Our village was destroyed," he said, his voice hoarse.

Angelika and Elara had arrived quietly behind Kael by then, flanking him without a word.

The man continued, each sentence costing him something to say. "A monster wave attacked three nights ago. We couldn't hold them. We lost… almost everything." His voice cracked on the last word. "We're looking for a safe place to rebuild."

Silence settled over the field. Only the wind moved, soft through the grass between them.

Kael studied the group carefully. Forty people — tired, but alive. Workers. Future manpower. Future soldiers. Future growth, if handled correctly.

The system flickered quietly at the edge of his vision.

[ Opportunity Detected ]

The Offer

Kael stepped forward one pace, his presence steady, controlled, giving nothing away.

"You're searching for shelter," he said.

The refugees tensed at the words, unsure what would follow.

Then his next sentence landed with a weight none of them expected.

"Join Titanblood Tribe."

The entire group went still. Shock. Disbelief. Something that looked almost like hope, all crossing their faces at once, too fast to separate from each other.

The middle-aged man stared at him. "…You're willing to accept all of us?"

Kael's voice didn't waver. "If you follow the tribe's rules. If you work. If you fight when it's needed." He paused, letting the words settle before finishing.

"You will have a place here."

For three long seconds, no one moved.

Then the man dropped to one knee, his voice thick with an emotion he didn't try to hide. "…Chief. We accept."

Behind him, one by one, the forty survivors lowered their heads.

System Notification

Kael's vision flashed with a chime.

[ Population Increased Significantly ][ Titanblood Tribe Influence Rising ]

For the first time since the settlement's founding, they had crossed a threshold that mattered — no longer a small band of survivors scraping together a living, but the beginning of something that could actually be called a tribe.

As the new members were escorted through the gates, past the fences and into the settlement they now called home, far beyond the treeline, hidden deep in the shadow of the forest, a pair of cold, beast-like eyes narrowed slowly.

Watching the expanding walls of Titanblood Tribe. Watching the numbers grow.

And then, quietly, they turned away — moving off into the dark, as if already carrying word of what they'd seen back to someone waiting to hear it.
