Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Expansion Begins

The sun rose over a village that was no longer small.

Smoke curled from dozens of cooking fires scattered across the settlement. New voices filled the air — unfamiliar accents, unfamiliar songs, children from the merged tribes cautiously playing near the edges of the square, still uncertain whether this place was truly safe or just another kind of waiting.

Kael stood on the central platform, eyes calm but calculating, watching it all unfold beneath him.

Inside his vision, the system flickered with a string of warnings.

[ Population: Rapid Growth Detected ][ Warning: Food & Housing Pressure Rising ][ Recommendation: Large-Scale Expansion Required ]

Kael exhaled slowly.

"Time to scale up."

Emergency Council

Inside the chief's hall, the core members gathered — Elara, sharp and composed; Angelika, cool and analytical; one of the Abyssari, silent but watchful in the corner; and Dean, arms crossed, eyes tracking Kael with a wariness that hadn't fully faded yet.

Kael sketched a rough map onto a wooden board.

"Our population jumped too fast," he said. "If we don't expand within ten days, shortages begin."

Angelika nodded immediately. "Food first. Always food."

Elara added, "Housing and defense have to grow together. More people means more risk."

Dean finally spoke, his voice low and deep. "My warriors can build. And guard."

Kael glanced at him briefly.

Good. Very good.

System Point Allocation

Kael opened the system panel.

Available System Points: 1,240

He began issuing upgrades in rapid succession.

[Ding!]

Crafting Efficiency → Level 3Agricultural Yield → Level 3Village Physics Infrastructure → Level 2Boundary Defense Framework → Level 2

The air around him seemed to sharpen as the changes settled in. His mind processed faster than it had that morning, calculations flowing through him like water finding its own path.

Angelika watched quietly from across the hall.

He's evolving again…

Phase One: Mega Farmland

By noon, Kael issued the first major order of the day.

"Clear the eastern forest belt. Expand the fields threefold."

The scale of it made several workers hesitate — until Dean stepped forward and roared across the clearing, "You heard the Chief! MOVE!"

The new tribe's warriors snapped into motion instantly.

For the first time since arriving, Dean wasn't standing in opposition to Kael.

He was enforcing him.

Kael noticed.

Loyalty building. Good.

Titan Cow Deployment

Kael walked personally to the livestock zone, where the massive Titan cows snorted and shifted at his approach, steam rising from their nostrils in the midday heat.

"Deploy for heavy plowing," he ordered.

With his upgraded physics support layered into the command, the enormous beasts tore through the soil at a pace that shouldn't have been possible, clean furrows opening up across the field almost faster than the eye could track.

Villagers stopped mid-task to stare.

"What kind of cattle are these…?" one of them muttered.

Elara allowed herself a small, satisfied smile. "Our Chief's cattle."

Phase Two: Rapid Housing Grid

Angelika supervised the construction lines herself, moving between teams with the same precision she brought to everything else.

Under Kael's crafting upgrade, production speed nearly doubled — pre-cut timber arriving in standardized sizes, hut frames assembled from repeatable templates, multiple teams working in parallel instead of one slow line.

One of the Abyssari observed the process for a long while before offering her verdict in two rare words.

"…Efficient."

Coming from her, that was high praise indeed.

The First Major Problem

By evening, a scout came sprinting into the square.

"Chief! Water supply is falling short!"

The expanded population was draining river access faster than anyone had accounted for. The council gathered again, tension rising quickly around the table.

Dean frowned deeply. "If water fails, everything fails."

Kael was already thinking, fast and precise, his eyes distant for a moment before they sharpened again.

Physics Skill in Action

He opened the system.

[ Village Physics Module → Active Calculation ]

A terrain model formed in his mind — slope, flow, pressure, all of it arranging itself into a shape he could actually use.

A solution surfaced.

"We build a gravity-fed canal from the northern stream," he said.

Angelika blinked. "That distance is huge."

Kael simply replied, "Not with our new efficiency."

The Night Construction

Torches lit the dark as the entire village turned out to work.

Old tribe. New tribe. Dean's warriors. Kael's guards. Even Elara and Angelika joined the supervision lines, moving between work crews to keep the pace steady.

Under Kael's physics-guided planning, digging angles held perfectly true, the flow gradient calculated down to the smallest degree, no wasted effort anywhere along the line.

By near midnight, water began flowing — clear, strong, and steady, cutting a path through the new canal exactly as he'd predicted it would.

The workers erupted into cheers loud enough to carry across the whole settlement.

Dean's Shift

Dean stood beside Kael, watching the water move steadily along the canal they'd carved out of nothing in a single night.

For a long moment, the wild warrior said nothing at all.

Then, quietly: "…You're different from other chiefs."

Kael didn't look at him. "I don't plan to lose my people."

Dean's fists tightened slowly at his sides — not in anger this time, but in something closer to recognition.

Real respect, finally taking root.

System Notification

Inside Kael's vision, the system chimed once more.

[ Large-Scale Expansion Phase 1: SUCCESS ][ Village Stability: Improved ][ Loyalty — Dean: Rising ][ Hidden Growth Path Unlock Progress: 37% ]

Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

Hidden path…?

Interesting. Very interesting.

Night Falls

From a distance, Elara, Angelika, and the watching Abyssari stood together, their eyes drawn to the same place — Kael, standing alone under the torchlight, staring out at a village that had, in the space of a single night, become something none of them could have built without him.
