Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Stories of the World

The Hidden Valley.

A gentle rain had fallen throughout the night.

By morning, droplets clung to every leaf, sparkling beneath the soft rays of the rising sun.

Kieran sat cross-legged beneath the ancient oak tree.

Before him rested a simple wooden table.

On it lay dozens of scrolls, maps, and books.

Crystal placed another scroll before him.

"Today's lesson isn't about cultivation."

Kieran looked up curiously.

"What is it about?"

"The world."

---

She unfolded an enormous map.

Unlike the one she had shown him years ago, this one was far more detailed.

Mountain ranges stretched across its surface.

Ancient forests covered vast regions.

Kingdoms, empires, forbidden lands, sects and trade routes were carefully marked.

"This..."

Crystal said gently,

"...is only the Melika Realm."

Kieran stared in amazement.

"So many places..."

She nodded.

"And remember..."

"It is only one Realm."

---

She pointed toward the Gardenia Empire.

"The Empire of Swords."

"Their Royal Family has produced some of the greatest swordsmen in Melika."

"Their Imperial Army is considered unmatched in discipline."

She then moved her finger westward.

"The Gandis Empire."

"A land where strength is respected above all."

"Though its Emperor often behaves like a fool..."

Kael, who had been listening nearby, laughed loudly.

"That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about Dimitri."

Crystal couldn't help smiling.

"He is foolish."

"But never underestimate him."

"The strongest enemies are often those who make others lower their guard."

---

Her finger continued across the map.

"The Valeria Empire."

"Masters of elemental arts."

"They possess some of the greatest scholars and magi in the Realm."

"Their libraries contain knowledge that even ancient sects covet."

---

She pointed to a massive emerald region.

"The Emerald Forest."

"The home of countless intelligent beast clans."

Kieran smiled.

"I'd like to visit one day."

Kael looked at him.

"If you do..."

"Don't pet every beast you see."

"Why?"

"Some of them might eat you."

Kieran immediately looked toward Crystal.

"...He's joking."

Crystal remained silent.

"...Mama?"

"...Mostly."

Kael burst into laughter.

---

Crystal's expression soon became serious.

"There are also powers that answer to no empire."

She marked several locations.

"The Grand Academy."

"The Crimson Forge Pavilion."

"The Veiled Eye Pavilion."

"The Star Observatory."

"The Healers' Sanctuary."

"The Merchants' Alliance."

"The Beast Court."

"Each influences the Realm in its own way."

---

Kieran frowned.

"And the bad ones?"

Crystal looked at him quietly.

"Every light casts a shadow."

She drew several black circles on the map.

"The Black Lotus Organization."

"The Ashen Cult."

"The Crimson Eclipse."

"The Thousand Faces Guild."

"The Hollow Court."

"They hide within the darkness."

"They manipulate wars."

"Steal inheritances."

"Perform forbidden experiments."

"Some seek power."

"Others seek knowledge."

"A few..."

She paused.

"...seek things even I don't fully understand."

---

Kieran remained silent.

"Will I meet them?"

Crystal answered honestly.

"If you become strong enough..."

"Yes."

"If you remain weak..."

"You'll meet them anyway."

The answer sent a chill down his spine.

---

After a brief silence, Kieran asked,

"Mama..."

"What makes someone truly strong?"

Crystal didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she drew a large circle in the dirt.

Inside it, she wrote a single word.

Power.

Then around it she wrote six more words.

Heart.

Wisdom.

Will.

Comprehension.

Experience.

Responsibility.

She looked at Kieran.

"Most people spend their lives strengthening only the center."

"They forget everything around it."

She erased the circle with one sweep of her hand.

"When that happens..."

"Their strength eventually collapses."

---

The lesson continued until late afternoon.

By the end of it...

Kieran's head was spinning.

"There are too many organizations."

Crystal chuckled.

"You don't have to remember everything today."

"I wanted you to understand one thing."

"What?"

"The world..."

"...is far larger than your imagination."

---

That evening...

As Kieran practiced with his wooden sword near the waterfall...

Crystal stood alone beside the ancient oak.

Her gaze lingered on the horizon.

"He'll be ready soon."

Kael appeared beside her.

"You've finally accepted it."

She nodded.

"But before he leaves..."

"There's one place I must take him."

Kael's golden eyes narrowed.

"...Are you sure?"

"It's dangerous."

"I know."

"He could awaken something."

"I know."

"He might learn the truth."

Crystal remained silent.

After a long pause...

She spoke in a voice barely above a whisper.

"He deserves that choice."

---

Far beneath the Hidden Valley...

The ancient stone gate pulsed once again.

This time...

Not one...

But three golden runes illuminated its weathered surface.

Beyond the gate, the unseen ancient presence slowly opened its eyes.

"It is almost time."

Another voice echoed through the darkness.

"The child approaches."

"No."

The first voice replied calmly.

"The child..."

"...is being guided."

The runes slowly dimmed.

The gate returned to silence.

Above...

Kieran continued practicing the same basic sword swing Crystal had taught him.

One thousand swings.

Not a single technique.

Not a trace of flashy power.

Yet every swing was steadier than the last.

Unknown to him...

He was preparing for a place where countless geniuses would rely on talent alone.

And when the day finally came...

The boy who had spent years mastering the fundamentals would stand among them.

Not as the strongest.

Not yet.

But as the one whose foundation reached deeper than anyone could imagine.
