Chapter 88 - Public books are unsanitary

Silas closed the book he was reading with a sigh.

Why do all these books in the library smell so bad?

Is it because people lick their fingers while turning pages?

On that note, I've never understood this.

It's unnecessary and quite frankly disgusting.

Like when you're about to be handed a paper by the teacher, and they can't grab it, skill issue by the way.

They then shove their fingers in their mouth and give 'em a good ol' lick.

Then hand you a paper with wet finger marks…

Silas got chills just thinking about it.

Looking down at his hands he felt the need to wash them, it's not sanitary.

He grabbed his stuff and put the book back where he found it, then he headed towards the nearest bathroom.

Walking out of the bathroom shaking his hands with a dissatisfied expression on his face, he complained.

Really? No paper? And the school wonders why a lot of students don't want to use the toilets.

Just then.

"Silas?"

Hearing his name get called he turned to look in the direction.

"Alice."

Silas watched as Alice walked towards him with a smile and her usual bounce.

"What are you doing here? Don't you have English class in like five minutes?" Alice asked.

Silas nodded

"Yeah, I just had to wash my hands." He said as he motioned towards the bathroom.

Alice raised an eyebrow and looked at him then at the bathroom.

"Why?" She questioned confused, she was very curious.

Silas smiled slightly.

"I was in the library reading, but the books are just not sanitary."

Alice was quiet for a second then scoffed.

"You can be so weird sometimes."

Silas simply shrugged his shoulders.

"Well, hurry to class so you don't get late." Alice stepped up and gave him a kiss.

Silas wrapped his arms around her and reciprocated the kiss.

When they separated he said.

"Don't worry, I won't be late."

"Hope so." Alice winked and walked off.

Silas shook his head and started to walk towards his locker.

Does she have no faith in me?

When he arrived at his locker he threw in his math books he'd been carrying, and grabbed his english textbook.

As he walked towards the English classroom he couldn't help but remember the conversation he had with Emmett this morning.

I guess I'll be alone in English class today.

Although Rosalie isn't the best company, she's still company.

He arrived at the classroom right on time as the rest of the mob did, so he had to squeeze with them as he walked in.

When class started the teacher asked them if they'd read the chapters in the book we were supposed to.

But as expected no one had.

The teacher saw this and a tired sigh escaped her mouth.

"Since none of you have done the homework, we'll have to read aloud this class."

The students immediately started to groan.

"And no need to worry, everyone in here will have to read at least one or two paragraphs.

"Think of this as punishment."

The students' once again groaned, this time louder.

They now regretted not reading at home.

Usually Silas would curse their laziness but he hadn't either read it.

The class passed smoothly among the students' reluctant and monotonous voices bounced around in the classroom.

The teacher had a slight smile on her lips.

Clearly she had some sadistic tendencies.

Silas was in the middle of the queue to read so he went unnoticed, completely blended in.

When class ended the teacher seemed to be in a good mood as she assigned the reading homework for the next week.

"You need to read from page 120 till 136… remember, don't forget."

Silas simply folded the page he needed to read to in the book.

He waited for the rest of the class to leave so he didn't need to squeeze with them.

When he walked towards his locker he remembered that it was time for lunch now.

He went to his locker and threw his english textbook inside and then headed towards the usual meet up spot.

But on his way he met Emmett.

"Brother, why did you leave me during math class?"

Silas stretched and looked at Emmett's "angry" face.

"I was finished with the assignment, so I went to the library to relax."

"You went to the library? That explains why I couldn't find you."

Silas glanced at him.

"Did you also finish the equation before class ended?"

Emmett nodded.

"Yeah, I was like ten minutes slower than you."

Hearing this Silas nodded in understanding.

"Let's head to lunch." He said, redirecting the conversation elsewhere.

Emmett hummed in agreement.

When they arrived at the meet up spot, the only ones there were Jasper, Ella, Alice, Kate, and Bella.

Now with Silas and Emmett's arrival the only one they were waiting for was Edward.

After a few minutes of waiting, Emmett groaned.

"He's really keeping us all waiting here."

Silas who was standing behind Alice with his arms wrapped around her said.

"No need to get annoyed, we got time."

Emmett crossed his arms.

"Sure, but we could spend this time sitting in the cafeteria, not standing there staring at lockers."

Jasper nodded.

"I agree, I don't even know what's taking him so long."

Emmett shot Silas a look that seemed to say.

See? Even Jasper agrees with me.

Just then footsteps could be heard, everyone looked over and saw Edward walking over with quick strides.

"Sorry I'm late, I was held behind by the teacher."

Emmett subtly displayed his dissatisfaction, which didn't go unnoticed by Edward.

But he felt no shame, even the apology was half hearted.

"Alright, let's go." Jasper said and started walking up the stairs.

The rest followed.

"Silas, are you really not going to say anything?" Emmett said as he walked up beside him.

Silas cursed Rosalie, why couldn't she be here and deal with her chatter box of a husband.

"I don't wanna make a big deal out of it, he had a reasonable excuse aswell."

Emmett clicked his tongue.

"But his apology was so half hearted, clearly he didn't feel the slightest guilt or shame."

Silas shrugged.

"That's his problem, our problem is simply not to care."

Hearing this Emmett deflated.

"Yeah, maybe."

...

Hope you enjoy. Mwah~
