When Van said five minutes, he meant it, because in no time they were out of there, but they did not head home yet. Lilly Lake Park had really good spots with skilled chefs and lots of enticing delicacies. Van did not fancy them because he rarely ate anywhere outside his home, but he chose to make an exception.
He treated John and Eden to a meal, letting them have whatever they wanted from the menu with one condition, that they take no alcohol. They all shared a table, had their meal, and were soon on their way back to the mansion. The ride was silent. Van continued to stare out the window as always, while Jade tried to fight sleep until she could no longer win.
When they arrived at the mansion, Van tapped her on the shoulder. "Jade." She jerked awake, afraid, as though she had a bad dream, but that was immediately followed by a sharp pain so excruciating that she let out a cry.
