Chapter 41 - Feast

The chamber erupted into chaos.

Shocked whispers rippled through the Concord members. Veronique laughed, sharp and delighted, already stretching her shoulders like a predator preparing for a hunt. Kustav's frozen smile hadn't quite returned to his face, his golden eyes fixed on me with something that looked almost like reassessment.

And Mikhail's hand covered mine where it rested on his arm, cold and steady, anchoring me to the choice I'd just made.

"Wait."

Atlas's voice cut through the noise.

I turned to find him stepping forward again, his jade eyes burning with frustration. His hand was still partially extended, as if he couldn't quite believe I hadn't taken it.

"Selene, you don't have to do this," he said, his voice tight with barely controlled anger.

"I've made my choice," I said quietly.

"No, you haven't." His tone hardened, authority bleeding into every word. "You're not thinking clearly. This is a mistake—a stupid, reckless mistake born out of spite."
