Chapter 31 - Chapter 10 The Origin of Verl Ouzen

The Ouzen family is a strange and infamous lineage, steeped in mystery and cruelty.

They are notorious for abducting people and performing brutal experiments. Unlike ordinary experiments, the Ouzen family's tortures are designed to break the mind and body, often combining human organs with demonic organs to create powerful, controllable soldiers. Their ultimate goal is not just to build an army—but a loyal army, whose members are utterly devoted to the family.

Many powerful organizations have tried to analyze the Ouzen family's methods, but few have come close to understanding their full capabilities. Some call it mythical or even supernatural.

One day, Nightglass Covenant and the Fang Club—an assassin organization—attacked the Ouzen family's estate. Surprisingly, they found no one inside.

Note: Fang Club and Nightglass Covenant are not rivals. They share a friendly relationship. In fact, many of the Fang Club founders are also the founders of Nightglass Covenant.

Founders and History

The Assassin Club was originally created by Siner Guptil, a cruel but brilliant landlord and guardian figure who oversaw orphans in his care. He trained them in combat, survival, and dark arts. Despite his harshness, he provided for the children's basic needs and ensured their survival.

When Siner Guptil died, the orphans were left struggling to survive. His manager left as well, leaving the children vulnerable. At that time, new leaders emerged to take control of the remnants of the club. They rebranded it as the Fang Club, but out of respect for Siner Guptil, they also kept the original name, Assassin Club.

Siner Guptil understood the harsh truths of the world. He knew that if he or his manager had been captured, they would have revealed all the secrets of the Assassin Club. He allowed events to unfold in a cruel but calculated manner, including the Joldigus family killing the orphaned children.

The landlord/guardian himself was different. Even under endless threats, he never revealed the secrets of the orphans under his care. His loyalty and protection of the children were absolute.

Dual Identity of the Club

From that day forward, the club carried two names:

Assassin Club – Focused on dark deeds, including killing humans when necessary.

Fang Club – Focused on illegal operations, but not human killing, such as saving countries or eliminating dangerous creatures like Marrowbanes.

The five founders who rebuilt and preserved the club were:

Xesa Palamond

Yxes Palamond

Ashryn Mordelle

Shunsuke Kouzen

Fenhert Greygrious

Yes, Fenhert (Black ViSage) is one of the founders who rebuilt the Assassin Club after Siner Guptil's death.

Fenhert Greygrious

Fenhert's life remains shrouded in mystery. He accomplished many things in the past, and his true powers and intentions are largely unknown. Even among the founders, only a few know the extent of his deeds.

The Nightglass Covenant continues to operate legally, focusing on non-lethal missions, while the Assassin Club allows its members to kill when necessary, especially to train and maintain their lethal skills.

This duality preserves both morality and ruthlessness, ensuring the orphans raised under Siner Guptil's guidance are ready for the cruel world they face.

The Awakening of Verl Ouzen

The atmosphere in the grand palace was heavy with tension. Risiya Reynold, notorious for her cruelty, advanced toward her slave, Verl Ouzen, her steel chain glinting under the dim light. She raised her leg to strike, but this time something was different.

Verl's hands moved almost instinctively, catching her leg mid-air. The shock on Risiya's face was immediate, her strike halted mid-motion. His voice rang out—cold, commanding, and impossibly firm—echoing through every corner of the palace.

"Enough!"

The words carried a weight that made even the walls tremble. The servants froze, and the slaves watching from the shadows instinctively lowered their heads. Verl didn't stop there. With a strength born from a mysterious force surging through his body, he hurled Risiya across the room. She crashed through the window, glass shattering around her as she landed somewhere below.

Verl's gaze hardened. For the first time in his life, he felt the full measure of his own power. His chains lay broken at his feet, the steel torn as if it were made of paper. He took a deep breath, his voice firm and unwavering.

"I am no longer a slave. I am no longer anyone's property. I am… myself."

The Tragic Truth of Verl Ouzen

Few knew the real truth behind the quiet, obedient boy who had suffered endlessly. Verl's life had been marked by misfortune, cruelty, and deception. He was born into the infamous Ouzen family, a lineage shrouded in brutality and dark ambition.

The Ouzen family was not like ordinary aristocrats—they were scientists of human suffering. They conducted twisted experiments, fusing human organs with demonic ones, crafting soldiers for a loyal, controllable army. But for Verl, things had been different.

Even though he was their blood, Verl had never truly belonged to the Ouzen family. He spent the first two years of his life under their roof, seemingly cared for—but this was not out of love. The Ouzen family had plans for him, plans that would have shaped him into a controller of their brutal experiments, a master of pain and obedience.

Phiyana Senimon: The Maid Who Defied Fate

But fate intervened. One of the household maids, Phiyana Senimon, had seen the darkness that awaited Verl. She loved the boy—not in a romantic sense, but as a guardian, someone who understood that the Ouzen family would twist his soul for their ambitions.

At the age of two, Phiyana acted. She smuggled Verl out of the Ouzen estate, entrusting him to a family she knew would protect him. She risked everything. When the Ouzen family discovered her betrayal, they responded with the cruelty that defined their name. Phiyana was tortured, yet she revealed nothing about Verl's whereabouts. Many guards tried to break her, even committing vile acts, but Phiyana refused. Her courage kept Verl alive.

Even so, her fate was tragic. The Ouzen family eventually executed Phiyana. The same darkness she had tried to shield Verl from claimed her life, and she perished knowing the boy she loved would survive, yet live a life of uncertainty.

Verl's Journey Through Loss

Verl's new guardians could not protect him forever. The house he was taken to was destroyed during a Marrowbane attack, leaving him orphaned once again. Only by a miracle—through the timely intervention of Terk Quarnben, a kind-hearted adventurer—did Verl survive. Terk adopted him, raising him with care, teaching him survival and compassion. For five precious years, Verl experienced a semblance of peace.

But peace is fragile in a cruel world. One fateful day, assassins hunted Terk. Verl, powerless to stop them, was thrown back into homelessness and despair. His world shattered once more. He lost his home, his family, and any sense of safety.

Verl's Complex Desire

Years passed, and Verl wandered a harsh and uncaring world. He had dreams of revenge but lacked the strength to act on them. Weak, broken, and emotionally scarred, he had given up hope.

Then, one day, he saw her. A girl, beautiful and cruel, yet caring in her own twisted way. She treated her slaves with a strange combination of cruelty and affection. When a slave stumbled or cried, she would comfort them with a gentle kiss, ensuring they were physically unharmed while still asserting her dominance.

Verl watched, entranced and confused. The girl's actions were a paradox—a blend of fear and trust, discipline and care. In her presence, Verl felt a strange desire.

He wanted to serve her. He wanted to be her slave.

But something inside him had changed. The mysterious power that had surged earlier, the strange aura that had broken Risiya's chains, awakened a new consciousness within him. He no longer wished to be a victim. He no longer desired submission. He had seen cruelty, endured suffering, and survived. Now, for the first time in his life, he had choice, strength, and purpose.

A New Era Begins

As Risiya's body lay in shock below the palace window, Verl stood tall. His eyes glowed with a strange light, devoid of fear or uncertainty. His kind and extroverted personality, the one that had made him a gentle child, had been consumed by survival, pain, and power.

He was no longer Verl the obedient slave. He was Verl Ouzen, a force shaped by tragedy, revenge, and mysterious powers beyond mortal understanding.

And in the depths of his mind, a single thought burned brighter than any other:

The cruel world will learn my name.
