Chapter 37 - CHAPTER 37: A Completely One-Sided Duel

"Harpie Lady 1…?" Kisaragi murmured.

Mai continued without hesitation.

"Next, I activate Harpie Dancer's effect! I target one WIND monster I control—return it to the owner's hand. Then I can Normal Summon one WIND monster."

"I return Harpie Dancer to my hand—then I Normal Summon Harpie's Pet Dragon!"

A massive red dragon appeared, a golden chain hanging from its neck like a collar.

Harpie's Pet Dragon(ATK 2000 / DEF 2500)

Mai smiled, confident again.

"Hehehe… Harpie's Pet Dragon is the Harpies' pet. Its Attack and Defense increase by 300 × the number of 'Harpie Lady' on the field!"

"And because of Harpie Lady 1's effect, all WIND monsters on the field gain 300 ATK—so my Pet Dragon gains a total of +600 ATK!"

Harpie's Pet Dragon(ATK 2600 / DEF 3100)

Harpie Lady 1(ATK 1600 / DEF 1400)

Kisaragi's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Mai, don't forget—my Floowandereeze & Empen and Raiza are also WIND."

"So they gain +300 ATK as well."

Floowandereeze & Empen(ATK 3000 / DEF 1000)

Raiza the Storm Monarch(ATK 3100 / DEF 1000)

Mai clicked her tongue.

Tch… it's like she knew exactly what deck I was running.

"I set one card. Turn end." (Hand: 2)

Everything depends on this set card now…

Yugi spoke softly. "That face-down card is probably Mai's last desperate line."

Kisaragi Ends It Before It Starts

"My turn—draw."

"Mai… sorry about this," Kisaragi said, tone calm and final, "but I think we can end this duel now."

Mai's eyes flashed. "What?! You're not afraid of my face-down card?"

Kisaragi didn't answer. She simply played a card.

"I activate the Continuous Spell Floowandereeze and the Unexplored Winds from my hand."

"Next, I Normal Summon Floowandereeze & Eglen. By its effect, I add Floowandereeze & Stri from my Deck to my hand."

Then she placed her next card with surgical precision.

"Unexplored Winds' effect: when I would Tribute Summon requiring two tributes, I don't need to tribute two monsters. Instead, I can send one monster I control and one card my opponent controls to the Graveyard to perform the Tribute Summon."

Mai's face tightened. "So… you can use my field as tribute material?!"

"Exactly."

"I send my Eglen and your set card to the Graveyard—then I Tribute Summon Floowandereeze & Stri!"

A snow-white owl landed on Kisaragi's field—silent, heavy, and merciless.

Floowandereeze & Stri(ATK 2900 / DEF 800)

"And since Eglen left the field and was banished, Soul Absorption triggers—I gain 500 LP."

Kisaragi: LP 7000 → 7500

Kisaragi hadn't even finished speaking when Mai's hand slammed on top of her Deck.

"…I surrender."

Joey blinked. "Mai… conceded."

"This duel was pure steamroll," Yugi said. "There was no realistic path for her to beat Kisaragi."

Kaiba looked like he expected nothing else.

Mai exhaled, eyes steady despite the loss.

"I give up. Against you… I can't even see the possibility of winning."

Kisaragi Aoi wins! (Metal Stars: 5)

All around them, duelists fell silent—fear replacing curiosity.

"If Mai lost that easily," one duelist muttered, "then wouldn't I get one-shot instantly…?"

Kisaragi and Mai stepped off the Duel Machine and shook hands.

"Kisaragi… your dueling is terrifying," Mai admitted. "But next time, I won't lose. And I hope you win this tournament—prove what female duelists can do."

"I'll accept your challenge anytime," Kisaragi replied.

Mai gave a small smile, slung her bag over her shoulder, and walked away.

The crowd that had once gathered? Gone—vanished completely.

Everyone was afraid Kisaragi would challenge them next.

Kisaragi sighed, half annoyed.

"I shouldn't have used that deck. Now I have no opponents left to duel."

"Floowandereeze…" Yami Yugi murmured quietly, as if tasting the name.

Pegasus Makes His Move

Inside Pegasus' castle, the man who usually sipped wine like it was a performance had frozen—goblet raised, staring blankly at the screen.

"Terrifying skill," Pegasus murmured. "At this rate, no ordinary duelist will dare challenge you, Miss Kisaragi…"

An attendant frowned. "But… Pegasus-sama—if Miss Kisaragi and Seto Kaiba can't enter the castle, then our plan—"

"Go," Pegasus said sharply.

"Notify the island's Duelist Hunters. Have them appear before that group… at the right time."

"Yes!" The attendant bowed and hurried away.

Pegasus' smile returned—thin and amused.

"Heh heh heh… if normal duelists can't satisfy you… then let's see how you measure up against them."

Noon Approaches… and the Group Hits a Wall

Near midday, the group kept searching the island for duelists, but wherever they went, people scattered like they'd seen a ghost.

"Sorry… this is my fault," Kisaragi said, rubbing her temple. "No one wants to duel us now."

"That's not on you," Téa said quickly. "I'm sure we'll still find someone."

"Yeah," Joey insisted. "There's gotta be at least one decent duelist on this island."

Kaiba scoffed. "Fine by me. I don't have time for trash mobs anyway."

"Grrrnnng—"

A very inappropriate sound echoed in the middle of the group.

Everyone looked around.

Only Joey's face turned bright red.

"Joey—again?!" Téa snapped.

Kaiba sneered. "Pathetic clown."

"KAIBA, YOU JERK! That's a normal biological reaction for a healthy high school guy!" Joey roared.

Yugi blinked. "Now that you mention it… it is already noon, and we still haven't eaten."

Honda frowned. "Pegasus runs a two-day tournament and doesn't even care about food or lodging for contestants?"

Kisaragi grimaced internally.

I watched the anime… how did I forget to bring food, water, and a tent?

"We'll split up and look for anything edible," Yugi decided. "Grass, mushrooms—whatever we can find."

"Okay!" The others nodded and dispersed.

As Téa was about to go, she looked back at Kisaragi and Kaiba.

"…Aren't you two going to search too?"
