"Yugi—our duel will be right there!"
Mako jumped onto the floating machine, and Yami Yugi stepped up after him.
Before getting on, Yugi had already asked Joey for two Metal Stars.
"Mako—I'm betting six Metal Stars!" Yugi declared.
"Heh. That's pretty bold. Fine—then I'll match you!"
Mako placed his own Metal Stars onto the machine.

"You're surprised already? Too early."
"I activate Leviathan's effect—I can add to my hand one 'Umi,' 'Ocean Dragon God,' or 'Submarine' Spell/Trap from my Deck."
"I add 'Submarine Ambush' to my hand!"
"And due to Atlantis' effect, all WATER monsters on the field gain 200 ATK/DEF."

Kisaragi watched with interest.
"'Submarine Ambush,' huh? And Yugi's summoning is restricted… Mako's not bad."

"I activate 'Dark Magic Curtain'! By paying 1000 Life Points, I can Special Summon a DARK Spellcaster from my hand or Graveyard!"

"Yes! He got Dark Magician out immediately!" Joey pumped his fist. "If he beats Leviathan, the restriction disappears!"
"But… Yugi looks really serious," Téa said.
"Of course," Kisaragi replied. "Mako's face-down cards aren't ordinary."
Kaiba narrowed his eyes. "That set card… it's Submarine Ambush."
"Right. But this is something Yugi has to solve himself," Kisaragi said.
"Battle!"
"Dark Magician attacks Leviathan—Dark Magic Attack!"
Dark Magician raised his staff and fired a black blast—
"HEH HEH HEH—YUGI, YOU FELL FOR IT!"
Mako flipped a face-down card.
"I activate the Continuous Trap—'Submarine Ambush'!"
Before the attack could land, a harpoon shot up from the sea and pierced straight through Dark Magician's body.
Dark Magician shattered and vanished.
"What?! My monster was destroyed!" Yami Yugi's eyes widened.
"What the heck was that?!" Joey shouted.
Mako grinned.
"That's Submarine Ambush's effect: If 'Umi' exists on the field, at the start of the Damage Step when my WATER monster that was originally Level 5 or higher battles an opponent's monster—destroy that opponent's monster."
Yami Yugi's expression tightened.
"So whether I attack you… or you attack me… my monster gets destroyed."
"HAHAHAHA—exactly! Your attacks are sealed!"
Yami Yugi clenched his fist.
"I still haven't Normal Summoned this turn."
"I set one monster face-down, set one card, and end my turn." (Cards in hand: 2)
Mako Escalates: The Legendary Fisherman Strikes
"My turn—draw!"
"I Normal Summon 'The Legendary Fisherman' in Attack Position!"
From the deep, a fisherman riding a shark burst upward—then instantly sank back beneath the waves.
The Legendary Fisherman (1850/1600)
"Legendary Fisherman… originally Level 5, but Atlantis lowers it to Level 4?" Yami Yugi muttered.
Mako smirked.
"Yugi—Legendary Fisherman is unaffected by Spell effects while 'Umi' is on the field, so Atlantis won't boost his ATK… but—"
The Fisherman didn't reappear.
"…Where's your monster?" Yami Yugi demanded.
"HAHA! That's his second effect—he can't be chosen as an attack target!"
"Battle!"
"Legendary Fisherman attacks your face-down monster!"
With that, the Fisherman erupted from the sea, harpoon raised, stabbing down at Yugi's set card.
"And I activate Submarine Ambush again—destroy your Defense Position monster!"
The harpoon shattered Yugi's face-down monster into fragments.
"Then—Leviathan attacks you directly!"
Leviathan swung its tail, unleashing a massive tidal wave that crashed toward Yami Yugi.
"This is bad—if that hits, Yugi's LP will drop hard!" Joey yelled.
"YUGI!" Téa cried.
At the instant the wave was about to swallow him, a wall of Kuribohs appeared—stacked like a living barricade—blocking the tsunami.
"What—?!" Mako barked.
"That's because I discarded Kuriboh from my hand," Yami Yugi said calmly, "making this battle damage 0."
"…I see," Mako clicked his tongue. "My turn ends." (Cards in hand: 3)
